Will it be freezing in a 3 season tent Dec. 8-18? (we'll also have an rv)

We are downgrading from a 30ft Class C to a 25ft Class C, so we'll have space for 5. We'll be 4 adults and two small kids, so we figured we'd have a tent with us. One of the adults is tall and lanky.

I know weather varies that time of year, but even if it is at the coldest end of things, will we freeze in the tent? We have a huge 17x10ft tent, but it is only 3-season tested.

Would we be better off in a 4 season tent? Or just a 3 season tent with 20+ sleeping bags? (Or would we only need 40+ bags?)

For the record, the kids would probably not sleep in the tent if it is too cold. Just the adults.

Thanks!

Most likely it would not freeze in Orlando, but it might be chilly in the morning. You could bring a small heater as they have enough outlets. My concern would be rain as last Dec. when we were there we had a lot of rain, not all day but a little every day.

I leave in Northwest Florida and do not need or require a 4 season tent in this area, so I can say in confidence that you do not need one for the Orlando area. A 3 season tent will be more than enough. Winter in Florida (the deep south period) comes in spells. It can be 70 degrees one day and 30 degrees the next. But the cold never stays more than 2 or 3 days and usally warms up. The 40 degree bags should work find but bring extra blankets just in case. That way if it is warm sleep on top of the bag using the blankets and if it is cold use the blankets in the bag for extra warmth. One tip is bring a sheet for your air matteress. If it is cold an air matteress can you get cold too.

we have tent camped over x-mas at the fort. in the larger tents the heat does rise. but, you will be fine. we found that a little electric heater that has a temp control and oscillates works really good. just run it at night. don't forget to place it on something (a piece of wood, or something). we have had a heater melt the bottom of one of our tents. we are from wi. and it is a lot like our spring/fall camping here.

We did this last year around the same time frame. It did get cold acouple of nights we had a heater and eletric blankets. What really gets cold is the ground when your sleeping on a air mattress my sister had one of those double air mattresses that keeps you from lying so close to the ground she was fine with that. I however had the mattress that sleep close to the ground and can verify the ground gets cold. I ended up with one of those cot air mattresses. I don't really recommend them tho:rolleyes1
