Everyone's responses are on point. I am a teacher and used to only go during the summer. In fact I used to always go during star wars weekends and also during the 4th of july. In fact we got married there July 1 and had our honeymoon all through july. Then when we lived there I always enjoyed the summer time at WDW. It might be my favorite time to go. You do need to just adjust your expectations. Take the time to enjoy the things that you can do as an adult that you can't with kids. Sit on a bench with some popcorn and a coke on mainstreet and people watch. Hang out in line for a ride and just enjoy the time you can talk with your significant other. Walk slow, enjoy the ambiance. I have always loved the idea of getting a disney parks secrets and tricks book with all that fun behind the scenes knowledge and then taking the time to notice all the little details. Go on a hidden mickey hunt. Do some fun photography taking pictures of the stuff you just walk by.
So while what everyone else says is true use fast passes, rope drop and all that Try some of the simple things. Go to a water park, play mini golf, walk around the resorts.
Try new snacks. Challenge yourself to do something you have never done every day.
