Will I regret flip flops?

I think I'm the minority, but I absolutely can NOT wear flip flops when I'm at Disney. I LIVE in flip flops at home (until it snows...and sometimes after if it's not too deep....:rotfl: ) but my feet end up with HORRIBLE blisters if I wear them in Disney. At the balls of my feet, we're talking bleeding. I keep thinking "this time will be different" and try again and again to not wear sneakers but....every time I end up taking off my flip flops and walking barefoot just to make it to the bus. This is with the "Old Navy" type flip flops though, so better flip flops might not be as bad.

I cant wear the Old Navy type. You should try a Nike pair. Heaven! You'll never look back!

My wife and I take a variety of footwear to WDW. We have found that changing them out, even during the same day if we return to the resort, works best for us. Sneakers, Crocs, sandals, etc.

aaaH no 12 dollar flip flops... spend 75 -100 dollars on a pair and then walk the parks in them.. like clarks or orthaheel flip flops.... You need good shoes with support to last in the parks.... other wise it will ruin your trip.

I own more flip flops than any other type of shoe and don't mind putting down money on a great pair. I wear them 99.9% of the time. I wear them at Disney any time we go on the weekends. For week long trips, I do bring a pair of tennis shoes that I usually break out on day when there are no water rides. They usually feel good on my feet for one day and then I go back to flip flops. :thumbsup2

Now I will admit when I see people in the little cardboard flip flops or sandals I don't see how those work out. The flippers I bring have moderate support and comfort.

At the end of the day, better safe than sorry. Bring options! :goodvibes

I do Reefs every trip, and that's with a bad ankle. My feet need to breathe in summer. Plus the only way to do Soarin is with bare feet.

And I've never caught any disease nor had my toes stepped on excessively.

You should be fine, I wear flip-flops all the time and for 7 days straight at Disney. I prefer teva mush or reefs. But, as a pp said...a big no to the old navy ones (which I wear on a daily basis, but not at disney!;))

i wore flip flops! no problem! i had a pair of sneakers as back up, but i didnt need them.

i would not wear the old navy cheapy flops....those will hurt, or break....

i wore Teva "mush" -those are my go to, i've been wearing them for years!

It seems that there are many folk who do just fine in flip-flops and you certainly know what's best for you - and I would go with what makes you most comfortable. I just wanted to mention that I, who live in flip-flops at home, absolutely cannot wear them in WDW. There is just too much walking and sometimes that walking is at a bit of a hurried pace and flip-flops aren't up to the task. There is nothing that will ruin my trip more than having sore feet and believe me, I've tried other shoes and sandles, but the only thing that keeps my feet from hurting is sneakers. So, as much as I hate wearing sneakers under shorts, I wear moisture-wicking socks and great pair of sneakers every day - bad for pictures, but makes for "happy feet".

Just a note to consider wearing something else when it rains. DD12 wears her TEVA crisscross flipflops everywhere. She doesn't wear anything else in the summer. We were at MK one day when it poured. She said they felt fine even though they were slippery from the rain. She ended up with wicked blisters! She had them on the top of her big toes, between her toes and on the outside edge of her feet where the strap rubbed. It was terrible!

It has to have been because she wore them for hours in the rain and the cloth straps were wet and rubbing.

if you have tennis shoes then it would be better than the flip flop!

tennis shoes are always comfortable in trips

I've had good luck with flip flops (I wear Nike brand, which are extremely comfortable).

That said, I would recommend bringing at least three different footwear options with you. Flip flops, sneakers, maybe Crocs or Tevas. You never know what will work best for you, until you get there and walk several miles a day. If you're not used to walking that much, you may have problems that you can't anticipate ahead of time. Different people have different issues with their feet, so it's best to be prepared for all contingencies!

In my past several trips, I've worn flip flops and my feet were killing me before the end of the day. With that said, I went to a "good" shoe store and bought some really good sandles...SAS brand (I about choked when I saw the price) but she guaranteed me that I will last 8-10 hours in them...so that's what I'm going with...I will still take my flip flops for around the resort and pool though.

I'm struggling with this too. I also wear flip flops in the summer and would prefer to wear flip flops at WDW due to the heat. However, I'm also going in September and know to expect a lot of rain and I do NOT do good in flip flops in the rain. I slide everywhere. I bought Reef flip flops at the suggestion of many on these boards and wore them while walking a lot in D.C. and got 3 LARGE blisters on my feet after a day. I don't know if it's because they were new or what but I won't do that again. I never get blisters with the Old Navy flip flops I wear but again I'm nervous of the rain. Still looking for something!

I vote for switching them out. We were there 2 weeks ago and I alternated between tennis shoes, Teva mush flip flops and Ecco sandals. I have NEVER worn flip flops before this summer but I was so thankful I had them with me. I wore water shoes all day at TL and had the start of a blister on my little toe. I couldn't wear my tennies or Eccos because they both rubbed the sore area. A day in my flip flops--it healed enough for a bandaid to protect it--and I was fine. The Eccos were best for rainy days.

To the OP, to me, this is all personal opinion. If I went by what anyone here said, my feet would be the death of me. I don't per say have feet 'problems' but if I walked around any of the parks from rope drop to park closing and didn't have good supportive sandals...which in MY opinion isn't tevas, I certainly wouldn't be walking the next day.

Wear what you can wear. If you can walk, on concrete, for miles, in your regular sandals, then wear them.

I usually have my running shoes with me and then two pairs of sandals that have been packed (i wear my running shoes). My sandals, for me, are comfortable, have support, and I can walk in them for hours. To me, they are great. Do what works for you. What is good for you, may not work for others.

Have an awesome trip!!!!

I wore flip flops for our entire 7 day stay last trip to Disney - no problems. I wear them all summer and am on my feet almost all day so my feet are used to that. I can't stand feeling like my feet can't breath - I would never be able to wear closed shoes with socks in Disney. It makes me feel claustrophobic just thinking about it.
