Will I hurl on Mission Space?

I am hoping that someone who has been on Mission Space at Epcot can tell me what it is like in general terms. I have a curious affliction that I cannot go round and round on rides. Rollercoasters, TOT, etc, I love and can go on repeatedly, but I cannot manage the carousel, and even the Cat-in-the-Hat ride at IOA gave me trouble. I know that Mission Space relies on a centrifuge, but how much round and round do you actually feel on the ride?

I want to ride it but I do not want to spend the rest of the day feeling ill.

Hoping you can help.

I have ridden it many times with no problems. If you follow the instructions to look straight ahead you shouldn't have any problems.

I haven't seen anyone hurling outside the ride.

I too cannot spin, or even watch something going round and round. While at Epcot this past summer my DD and I decided not to ride Mission Space while my DH and DS did ride. They both loved it, but they also have no problem with spinning rides. We sat by the exit and watched as guests departed the ride. Some left quite happy while other's were quite ill ::yes:: . I was glad I didn't chance it as I would have hated to ruin the rest of my day. My suggestion to you is if you can't do the spinning thing, don't chance it, unless it's the last thing planned for the day. :D

We found that the effects were felt as pressure, not spinning, and if you can cope with ToT and Coasters you should love it! (and ignore the endless warnings in the line areas!)

Mike:)

i rode it once it made me qweezy but not sick.i won't ride it again
but i am glad i did it!! it's an awsome experiance

I, too, become ill after riding spinning or simulator rides. I don't do the teacups, Star Tours, Body Wars. I *can* handle the carousel for the sake of my kiddies, but I don't like it, lol! I also LOVE ToT, and RnRC, and most coasters.

That being said, I felt I had to try Mission: Space at least once. I was careful to keep my head back, stare straight ahead at the screen, and BREATHE! It was a great ride, and I felt very little spinning sensation. Mostly just pressure. I ended up riding it a total of 2 times, on different days, and both times I did alright. I did feel a little "off" for a couple of hours after each ride, but I wouldn't say I was queasy really. Kind of the same feeling I get when watching some of the 360 circle vision films like the movie in France.

I suggest you try riding at the end of a day. Maybe even right before the park closes. That way if you do end up with a sick feeling it hasn't ruined your whole (or part) day.

I rode this ride on three different occasions on our past trip. The first time I was quite scared (mainly because I had read so many postings of people who became sick).

Most rides do not bother me. However, change of altitude on the plane and even going up or down on the elevator makes me extremely queasy. But by following the instructions they give you, I had no trouble at all. I did feel alot of pressure and some lightheadedness, I believe the air that blows on you helps. I felt little to no spinning feeling, so you should do fine.

My husband and ds (9) loved it. It is truely unlike any other ride you have experienced. Definately a "DO NOT MISS". ::yes::

Enjoy!

I get a headache on rides like the the TeaCups, but had no problem on Mission: Space, and in fact enjoyed it very much!

I can usually handle spinning rides but I went on in September and I won't be going on again. I thought I was going to get sick afterwards, and felt lousy for a while after....but I was still glad to have done it....ONCE!

I concur that while you're on the ride what you mostly feel is pressure, especially on your face and neck. However, when I got off, I had a hard time walking straight!! It was kind of like being tipsy or like when I was a kid and used to spin in circles to see how dizzy I could get. I wasn't dizzy per se; my head did not feel like it was spinning, but I definitely had a hard time walking in a straight line to exit the ride, and as we passed through the gift shop I had a slightly hard time focusing on some of the merchandise my husband was pointing out. By the time I got outside I did feel better, and had no ill effects the rest of the day. And, by the way, I am one who gets dizzy on the tea cups, carosels, and doing turns in Ballet class!

I went on Mission Space with DS-7 a few weeks ago. My first concern was that there are "barf bags" (sorry, can't think of what else to call them) right there when you get in-- Just like the ones on airplanes. Although the ride was intense, we did not get sick, but did feel a similar "queasiness" that others have described and that went away after a few good breaths of fresh air. DH chose not to ride, he didn't want to spoil the rest of the day, and he tends to get motion sickness easily.
Good Luck, hope you can try it. It really is a unique sensation.

our pod smelled like vomit so apparently some people get sick on it. :p

My story of Mission Space goes on my list of Top Ten Most Embarrassing Things in My Life.

I was going to give this ride a try, however, I forgot my motion sickness medicine that day. But, DH wanted me to try it anyway. We walked right on the ride. HOWEVER, I noticed ALL of the signs warning about motion sickness, spinning, simulator rides, etc. Those three things are horrible for me. I can handle Dumbo, but I can't handle the tea cups or merry go round. We had just eaten at the ice cream social about an hour before. THAT bothered me. I could feel us moving, and I didn't like it. So, we get in line. I tell DH that I don't think I want to do it. He says I can do it. So, we are in the area where Gary Sinese talks to you and mentions AGAIN the whole sickness thing. Then we go into the waiting area where AGAIN there is a sign. Then another CM comes over and says this is the last chance and gives the warning AGAIN. At this point, I'm thinking I shouldn't do this ride. But, DH takes my hand and we go into the capsule. We are the only two in there. The second that I pulled the harness down, I started panicking, and I wanted off right away. Well, no CM to be found. Then there were technical difficulites, and we sat there for at least five minutes, and it only got worse. I felt very trapped. I didn't panic "out loud". I just told my DH that I had to get off now. Of course, there is not CM to be found. Finally, one shows up and she let me out. I would have been fine if I could have gone straight outside, but no. There was a CM standing out there. She knew that I had "chickened out", she gave me a pathetic look, and I started crying. I wasn't bawling, just the whole tears running down my face. She kept asking me if I was OK, and that only made it worse. I wanted to just go outside and get away from her (She was very nice, but to collect myself, I needed to be alone). I asked if a door led to outside, and she took me threw this door to the outside. It was the back of the ride where the CM's go. So, I went back inside, and I was fine.

The reason the ride was having technical difficulties was because someone who rode right before us had gotten sick. They didn't get sick until after they got off - around the back of the ride. The ride wouldn't work because the sensors would pick up the vomit and not run. She also got sick all over in the closet that is right after the ride. Not sure if it is a bathroom (not marked so) or not.

In the end, I regret not riding, and I think next time my mental state will be better. Those warning signs and all I've read here just scared me too much. DH loved it. He was having fun by himself. My Step dad rode it, and he is prone to motion sickness. He doesnt' like spinning. He said it stayed with him for awhile, but he was glad he tried it because it was awesome to experience. Once was enough, though.

Would Dramamine or similar motion sickness medication help prevent one from getting sick on this ride?

I rode Mission Space this January, I too was a bit anxious after hearing all the warnings. I didn't feel any "spinning" per se, but I felt an uncomfortable pressure 2 or three times--on my chest, that was uncomfortable enough that I didn't ride again. The rest of our group loved it and had no problems. I had a slight headache for a while after....I guess everyone is different. There was a person being attended to by paramedics I believe when we were exiting the ride, so I do think people should take the warnings seriously. Each person is affected so differently by different experiences. Good Luck With your decison!!!!!!!!!

It is too bad they don't have some seats that you don't feel the effects but you can see the other parts of the ride.

They were right in front of us when we sat down in a little "bag" holder. Just seeing them made me panic a little!

where are the barf bags? I didn't see any.

I too, have trouble with some rides, the tea cups make me sick, as does Atro Orbitor, Star Tours and Body Wars, but I do Okay with Dumbo and Dinosaur. Go Figure. Anyway, this past October, on our ADULTS ONLY Weekend, I took my Dramine, my DH hand, and rode M:S. I'll tell ya, if you have ANY hesitation at all, those signs will scare the bejeebus out of ya! It's no wonder we have panic attacks by the time you get in there! My saving grace was the air that they blow right into your face. If it had not been for that, I would have been looking for the panic button or "the bags". I too, had that wobbely feeling after getting out of there. My DH perused the gift shop and I headed outside to sit. Am I glad that I rode? YES!!! Will I do it again....nope! I think it is worth trying one time, but just be aware of how you might feel when it's over. Our boys are wanting to ride when we go back. I just don't know. I would hate to ruin the day with 2 "sick" kids. I think the youngest, Connor, will do fine...it's Colton I worry about! We'll see. Colton can read now. I bet those signs will scare him away!

I rode once(on an empty stomach) and enjoyed it. I had a little headache after the ride(had the same thing after RnRcoaster). I will try it again(on an empty stomach). If I get the headache again, that will be my last time. Who wants to have an empty stomach at WDW;)

My DH is also spin-sensitive and was really concerned. First he made sure that it was a 'simulator' ride and not a coaster-type. Then I went in alone (on the singles line) while he got Fastpasses. I rode it and loved it! I told him you really do not feel the spinning as it is done widely (the 10 4-passenger cars are hooked to a center and that is what spins). You do feel the pressure in your chest when you 'lift off' and land. The first time I broke into insane giggles, the feeling was so weird. Anyway, after explaining the whole ride IN DETAIL to DH, he decided to risk it. He enjoyed the ride, but said it was about his tolerance limit. :hyper:

I would suggest something similar to you: if you are going with someone you trust, and knows your limits, have them ride it first and explain it to you while it is still fresh on their minds. Then decide! Also take count of how you feel that day. All of us feel more adventurous some days. The day I was at MGM, I wasn't feeling all that great and skipped ToT, although I love it.
