Will I be facing FORWARD when sitting against bed headboard?

On Dream Class ships it appears that the headboards alternate direction each stateroom. Didn't check Magic class. For some reason I feel I would prefer to face forward when sitting on bed with my back against the queen bed headboard. Do others book a specific stateroom so the are sleeping a certain way, ie; feet or head forward? You can tell somewhat from deck plans. There is a bit of a recess where the door is I believe. That recess actually is for your door and the cabin next door too. This is where the stateroom hall is, therefore the headboard is on the farther wall, if that makes sense. I discovered tonight that I'll be traveling backwards. Has anyone had sea sickness issues with this forward or backwards issue or can you even notice. I suppose you would if you hit heavy seas. We have a Fantasy eastern booked FWIW.

I've done feet forward, head forward mostly but also feet port and feet starboard. Never noticed any difference, but for some reason preferred feet or head forwards.
In really rough seas, none of the sleeping positions were great.

Hmm I never thought about this at all, you could always just sleep in the bed backwards if it really bothers you :)

I have never noticed a difference, but I have never thought about it!

Honestly the only motion you will feel is side to side (L to R). I guess thinking about it, I have been head first on both of my cruises on DCL. On other cruise lines where the beds are situated the other way (side first) is probably where i felt the most movement. Dunno if that makes sense but if this is your first cruise, you will be fine whether you go head or feet first. Enjoy! :cool1:

On board is the only place I sleep so fit! :cloud9: The left and right motion will rock you to sleep like a baby.

I'm deep too, I guess. I have this thing where I can't sleep if I think my head is lower than my feet. I've been known to sleep opposite next to DH because I can't get past that uneven feeling. Never had to do that on a ship.

(I've even joke to DH to please make sure when I'm buried that my head is slightly above my feet and don't put me in anything that is tight on my neck - or a bra. And then we talk the degree of angles...:rotfl2: Now THAT's deep :scared1: )

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

DH has huge motion issues and takes his meds when we cruise and has never had a problem. The inside rooms are port/starboard facing and the porthole, verandah cabins are forward and aft facing - at least the ones that we have been in. DH has never had an issue - or commented and I will say, if we get on a train or tram or any vehicle where there would be any sort of option for either forward/backwards facing, he always sits facing forward.

In 23 DCL cruises it has not bothered me either way.....I look so forward to my cruises because I know I am getting a great night's sleep....I sleep best onboard with the rocking to sleep. Love it!!! Plus the new bedding is awesome as well!!!

DH has the preference of face (feet) forward. I don't know why as he no motion issues, he just likes to know he is heading in the right direction. :confused3 :rotfl:

We will be on the Dream in April in a cat 4d in a connecting room with my ILs, and I'm pretty sure that our room will have a "backwards" bed! I'm slightly freaked out. This will be my 6th cruise, and I've always been feet first (except the first one as a teenager, when I was sideways).

Oh well, I'm sure I'll get over it, or like a pp said, I'll just sleep the wrong way in the bed! :)

Thanks for the replies. I feel a bit better about traveling backwards. In all the years of lurking I don't recall reading about this topic, which is probably indicative of it being a non issue. I may be as a PP says "just likes to know he is heading in the right direction.", because all to often I'm not. :rotfl:

I'm more concerned about the after cruise getting off and sleeping in my WDW bed still feeling the movement. I have that problem in elevators I can feel it for an hour or so after I'm sure 4 nights on a cruise I'll be feeling the movement for a night or so on land

Once you're onboard, and have walked around some, you'll have the feeling that you're simply inside a large hotel, or even a small town. Basically, you sort of get "turned around" anyway.....so when you go to bed, you're really not going to notice if you're forward or backward....unless you stare out the porthole or verandah door.

And yes, as others said, the motion you'll feel (if any) will be more side-to-side.

After some cruises, I've still felt the "motion" while standing and walking....never noticed it in bed.
Some cruises, I didn't feel it at all. And it doesn't seem to matter if it was a "bumpy" cruise or not.

Personally, I love bringing home that rocking feeling.....makes the cruise seem to last just a little bit longer! :upsidedow

Sleeping doesn't bother me, but after my first cruise, I do look for a cabin with the orientation of furniture such that I'm facing forward while sitting on the couch. I found that when I was on the couch watching TV, the sight of the ocean going the "wrong" way (peripheral vision) bothered me a bit.

When trying to determine furniture arrangement, you can also check for connecting rooms. The bed and couch are on the wall opposite the connecting door.
