So I we are just starting to think about our 1st trip with our kids.DS 4 and DS 15 months ,Me 30 and DH 30.
DH and I have been once before we had kids and we stayed a split stay for 6 nights at AKL and Poly.We had a fabulous time.We are wanting to save some money along with possibly trying a new resort and by doing so I was thinking of the All Star Movies(3-4nights) and WL(6-7nights) for a split 10 night stay.
Will we be dissappointed if we are not on a monorail resort? I loved the POLY but am willing to try something different but just don't want to regret it.
I think we wouldl enjoy the WL but just don't want to be dissappointed by not having the monorail.

TIA

I've haven't stayed at either the All Star or WL yet, but I know that the WL has a boat that goes directly to MK in the morning. Ft. Wilderness (where I stayed recently) and WL share a boat. In the morning, the boat goes to Ft. Wilderness, WL, and then MK, and in the evening, the boat route switches, so that the boat goes from MK to WL to Ft. Wilderness. So don't worry too much about missing the monorail; it's a pretty quick boat ride. Good luck!

Depends. Is the monorail an important factor to you for picking a resort. If it is I'd stick with a monorail resort. If that is not a priority I think you will enjoy WL. We love it. I've never had any transporation issues. I've generally waited 20 minutes for a bus to the resorts and I've only had to wait 10-15 minutes for a boat (maybe just lucky) The boats did stop at ft, wilderness on the way back from the mk but I'm not running a race when I'm on vacation so an extra 5 minutes does not matter to me.

Hey, it's still Disney so you can't be too disappointed. I see you stayed at AKL so you can ask yourself how you felt when you were there. Did you feel that not having the monorail there was not tolerable? I think WL and AS are good choices for a split stay. You will save a good chunk of money at a Value Resort and the two are a real good contrast. One resort is big - size and decorations - and the other is more intimate, small and green. It will be like two vacations. We have stayed at all the resorts you mentioned and didn't regret any of them.

I think you need to look at how you plan on touring the parks with the kids. Do you plan on spending a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot? I ask that since being on the monorail is the most convenient for that. Do you plan to go back to the hotel a lot..again the monorail might be more convenient than busses with the strollers.

WL is a beautiful hotel and the grounds are great. I have often seen bunnies and other wildlife around the grounds. I acutally saw a deer once on the path from WL to the campground...kids might like that.

It really will come down to personal choice and what works best and is most convenient for you and your family.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...

You'll miss the monorail. We've stayed at the Poly and then at other resorts, and we always want to go back home (to the Polynesian, I mean). Maybe it won't be a huge deal, and their are some other advantages... (Who am I kidding, Polynesian here we come.)

Sorry

I think you should go for the WL! Even though it doesn't have a monorail, it is a beautiful resort with lots to do! :)

I can't answer about missing the monorail, because I only dream of staying at a monorail resort. However, if your kids are into Disney movies, they will probably love ASMo. We took DS at 18 months, and the expression on his face when he saw the Toy Story building was priceless. We have stayed at two All Stars, and I find that DS really enjoys the themes.
I love the look of WL, and we are actually planning a split stay there in the future.

I can answer!

Ok...I was a DIE HARD Poly fan. I thought I would hate any other resort. Financially, through peak season, I could not see paying near 500 for the same room I paid 320 for 6 months ago!! LOL...so....

We had five in our party in March. We chose to book POR. Did I miss the monorail? Yes. A little. Not enough to warrant that much money. My kids are older (11 and 9 and 7) and travel well so the busses did not bother us at all...and we found them to be good while we were there. Can I tell you how gorgeous POR was? It was GORGEOUS. Quiet, great pools, great food, entertainment...shopping....it had everything. Seriously. We do not use room service so we did not miss that.

Although I cannot discredit the ease of the monorail to and from MK and Epcot from the Poly...I can tell you honestly from one POLY lover to another...I think I did not give enough credit to other resorts at WDW. Will I go back to the Poly?? Of course! Free dining?? or Great rate?? Sure! But I would NOT hesistate to go POR again, and in fact am doing just that this September and next March!

Having said all that...I just reread your post and see that you have little ones and prefer a monorail.

I say stick with it if you think it is that important to you...really! You can check out GV rooms at the Contemporary (although I have been there a lot and can say this resort in no way compares to the Poly...but then again I have not been in a tower room....)
