Will I be disappointed with these restaurants?

I am planning my ADR's and I am a little worried that I will be disappointed with the quality of food/service at my choices. We do appreciate good food (my DH works in the restaurant industry) and bad service will likely ruin the entire meal for him. I wanted to do signature dining as I think it is more our taste, but since we will have our two children with us (5 and 2) and they are 2 TS credits each I am not sure that will work. Here are the restaurants we plan on visiting so far-- we still have room for 2 more 1 TS restaurants since I plan on paying for the Tusker House breakfast OOP.

Dinner: 1900 Park Fare, 'Ohana, Cape May
Lunch: Hollywood & Vine
Breakfast: Tusker House

I've only been to two that you have on the list, Cape May was "ok", but I really was disappointed with Hollywood & Vine. I think you can do much better...we love, love, love the 50s PTC when in DHS. Seems like there are better character meals to be had on property..IMHO, but YMMV.

Tusker House breakfast is the best breakfast buffet on property according to all members (10yrs-43yrs) in our group. The character interaction is also great as well. We never miss this breakfast whenever we are on Disney property.
I am a bit of a foodie as well. I love great food and wonderful service as well. Tusker house willl not disappoint.
The rest of the restaurents I am unfamiliar with, sorry.
Except Ohana's it is on our list to try on our next trip.

of those you have chosen, the only one I've eaten at was tusker house breakfast. The food was good, not great, but good, fresh, etc. The characters are nice and they do a little dance which my dd enjoyed. My only complaint would be that its kind of dark in there. I prefer a bright atmosphere. But overall I think you'll be happy with the meal.

The only one I would skip would be Hollywood & Vine and replace it with Kona Cafe because it is wonderful. There are several other places that are much better too, and if you need a place at DHS, I would go with 50's Prime Time Cafe.

We have never been to Cape May, but I have read good things about it. The rest of them are great, IMO. :thumbsup2

I think the only restaurant you may regret is Hollywood & Vine... I would also suggest 50's Prime Time Cafe as a better choice.

1900 Park Fare - Just 'eh' for me.
'Ohana - good food and fun atmosphere
Cape May - good food. Lots of crab :thumbsup2.
Hollywood and Vine - I have not been, but I have heard very bad things.
Tusker House - I have not been, but I have heard very good things.

If you want to do Signature Dining, then I think it's OK even with your young children. Just make sure that you make your ADRs early.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something, but you said that one of your children is 2 years old. Unless he/she is turning 3 before your trip, you wouldn't be purchasing a dining plan for him/her just as you don't have to purchase park admission. Therefore you would only be using 2 TS for you, your husband, and your 5 year old. On the other hand, if the smallest one will be 3, you will be using 2 TS credits per person. I agree with OP that you shouldn't avoid the signature restaurants just because you have the kiddos with you! You won't be in the minority if you have kids with you!!

Tusker House is great for breakfast! We've eaten there 3xs and always enjoyed it! I think they have the most on their buffet line.

I think we ate at Hollywood and Vine YEARS ago and did not like it one bit.

And 1900 Park Fare is a must do for us every year for dinner. The step sisters are hilarious and the food is really good, esp the desserts.

Hollywood and Vine is ATROCIOUS...try Mama Melrose...it's one of my faves..

I agree with the idea of Kona Cafe...it's never a poor choice!

Have fun and enjoy!!!

Cape May Clambake is awesome, we have been there a ton of times and it is always excellent

You will not see us set foot in 1900 PF every again, the food is just disgusting. Hate to say it but H&V is just as nasty, maybe more so

Ohana is nothing to get excited about

I hear Tusker House breakfast is very good but we have yet to eat there.

My advice? Stay far far away from family style or buffets for lunch and dinner (with the exception of the clambake). The food is always over salted and just terrible, just a huge waste of money of food credits...you are better off going to a regular sit down order from the menu place

Out of the restaurants you list and the meals that you wish to eat them; we LOVE Cape May Clam Bake!! We eat there every trip. And we have eaten at Tusker House for Breakfast, and we enjoyed it. As far as the others, 1900 Pk. Fair and Ohana for dinner, they'd have to pay me to eat there. Hollywood & Vine for Lunch, we've never eaten there; however we are eating there this year for Fantasmic Dinner plan and this is only because we do NOT like Mama Melrose, and I have a DD with a medical condition that makes standing in that really long line difficult, or we'd skip the Dinner package and just eat where we want and wait in line.

Will you not be visiting EPCOT? Many nice restaurants there to choose from. I notice you said your husband will be affected by poor service. All of your choices are Buffet Restauraunts so not much service is necessary. I think you will find that many guests problems with service are late seatings that kind of set the bar for the rest of the evening. If you visit EPCOT IMO I would try something there such as LeChef's, Coral Reef or Italy. As for Hollywood Vine I agree with other post. I would dump it and replace with Mama Melrose kinda quiet secret in the back of Hollywood Studios.

That looks like a lot of generally so-so buffets for someone who is a foodie. They're okay (the ones I've been to - 3 out of your 5) but nothing outstanding @ any of them in my opinion - they are more about the "experience" than the food.

I just think there are much better places to eat. We usually try to do 1 buffet character meal per trip, maybe 1 other buffet (like Boma for breakfast), then non-buffet better restaurants for the rest.

the only ones we've frequented (on your list) are 1900 Park Fare and Tusker House. we like both and have/will return to them both.

i will say that if you go in expecting to be disappointed, you probably will be. :confused3

have you considered Biergarten? we love the food there (always leave stuffed) and my kids LOVE it!

Totally agree there! 1900 PF and Ohanna are quite good though IMO

We have also had great meals at Coral Reef, Kouzzina, LeCellier, Via Napoli and Raglan Road(DTD)

Have fun:goodvibes

We've only really been disappointed in H&V, but you won't really know unless you try it yourself.

Tusker House Breakfast buffet is one of the best character meal.
1900 Park Fare Dinner food is not so good but character interaction is great.
Hollywood and Vine is a great place for character interaction and you children will love it for the sing/dance ever 15 mins and a musical parade but the lunch food not so good. I would go to Hollywood and Vine for breakfast.
If your husband loves food you guys should at least try some restaurant at Epcot.

We booked a dinner at H&V, mainly for the Fantasmic! package. What's so bad about it? Now I'm a little .

We've enjoyed our food at Ohana, but service has been a really big issue there lately. The last time we ate there, the service was practically non-existent. I never even got asked for a drink refill.

And I had a client go down there just last month and ate at Ohana - again - terrible service.

I would also recommend some of the TS places in World Showcase! I tried out the new Via Napoli in October and it was SO GOOD. I was reluctant, as we can get Italian food EVERYWHERE here in eastern PA. But this was just so authentic and with amazing service.

We also really loved Kouzzina - which is at the Boardwalk - but you can get to it by walking out of International Gateway in World Showcase. It is on our must-do list.

I also really like Kona Cafe at the Poly. And Chefs de France in Epcot has also been great when we go! And you can't beat the atmosphere in San Angel Inn. Their food has really gotten so much better! A few years ago, it was only ho-hum, but they've really stepped it up. Our meal this past summer was excellent!
