I was thinking of doing a split stay between WDW and Universal. My husband just wants to do Universal. We have an 8 and 10 year old. We are planning on staying at Royal Palms. Will we be bored at Universal for 6 days? Is there enough to keep us occupied? Will I want to be at WDW?

When we took our sons when they were smaller at ages 13 and 9 we always took anywhere from a 5 to 7 day vacations to Universal only and always found something to do there and never got bored and for the past 2 years actually this will be the second year its just me and my wife and we have took 7 days and spent 6 of those days just doing the parks the way we want and taking our time.
Especially IOA cause we love the themeing so much but have to admitt we are hooked on staying onsite cause it makes for a much more relaxing time.
Hope this helps

There are many here who will think you will love Universal for 6 days. But, for me, that would be too much. I think 2-3 is max for me. One full day in each park, plus another to repeat favorites. I wouldn't know what to do for 6 days! BUT...I go at slow times, so I don't have long line waits. And, I no longer have small kids, so we don't do the little kids rides. I would do the split stay, with the last two nights at one of the Universal onsite hotels so you get FOTL passes! They are great! I am sure you will get different answers than mine.:thumbsup2

It is very difficult for anyone to decide whether or not you will be bored. Where is Royal Palms? When we stay onsite for a long time we only do the parks for a few hours each day and spend the other time relaxing at one of the three onsite hotel pools, or shopping, or just hanging out. Remember, a vacation doesn't have to mean going, going, going!!!

We stayed 6 nights our last visit & I wouldn't have minded if it had been even longer. We're doing 7 nights this time & I think that will be a good length of stay for us. We stayed onsite our last visit & are doing so this time around. We just love the resorts & there's plenty to keep us busy. Of course, we like to take at least a day and go shopping, etc. and at least another non-park day to just gel. Only you will prob know if you'll be "bored".

I prefer to go for 4 days myself but we tour pretty hard. I can see staying longer if you stay onsite but 6 days might a be a little much.

I'm not familiar with Royal Palms so I don't know what there is to do there. You could plan a trip to Sea World or a water park or maybe just see some smaller attractions in the area. You will never get bored in the Orlando area!

We personaly never get bored at USO.Staying on-site to us is the best way to take it all in.Like the PP's said,Staying on-site you can tour easy and shop.Pool hopping is so kool.We can spend A day at every resorts pool. The nightlife is evan better at CW.There is more to do and see then you think if you take the time and relaxe on youre vacation.Alot of peeps miss the little things that makes Universal great bye going commando style..

Wouldn`t have thought so.

We stayed for 2 weeks at RPR last year and every day at some point we went to either one or both parks.....yes every day.....we LOVE Universal.

If we went to one of the Disney parks we spent the morning there or late at night for Wishes at MK, but always either started or ended up at one of the Universal parks or Citywalk.

Citywalk is fabulous at night, the atmosphere and restaurants all make it a fun place to be.

We always have a car which makes it easier to wander around to malls and such and just go where the mood takes us....when it takes us.

We have booked 2 weeks in RPR again this Oct, and we`ll be planning on doing the same again....................most of our time in IOA/US.

So go take your time and ..........enjoy :thumbsup2

is Wet n' Wild worth a visit? We have two boys 9 and 7 yrs. do you think this is age appropriate for them or can you make another suggestion for another park that may interest them?

My wife is also concerned about this, as we will be back at UF for the week of Mardi Gras. We are very hardcore Disney freaks.. and she is worried that we will get "bored". We are planning one day at Seaworld, and I think I've convinced her that this trip will be one of an easy going.. laid back pace.. that we will truly enjoy!!! I cannot wait!!!

we were at universal for 6 days last summer but we strayed a little.
we went to cocoa beach one day and blizzard beach another.
that still left us the nights to either go on a few rides or go to city walk.

we almost always do split stays & are thrilled @ both parks:goodvibes. I understand how u feel though.

jmho, no personal offense meant; if u go into a trip thinking u may be bored, u probably will...if u don't give U a chance. it's amazing in it's own right & it is def not disney & therein lies it's charm for us. Not better, not worse, just a different type of vibe.

ur family could always do the volunteer give a day disney opportunity to snag free tix, perhaps the tipping point for sneaking to Disney 1 day;)

We have done split stays between WDW AND UNIVERSAL several times. I love IOA and US, I love Citywalk, I love the Royal Pacific hotel and the Hard Rock Hotel. You will not be disappointed! My boys are 6/9/12 and are so bummed that this year we will not be going to Universal.

One of my favorite things about a US/IOA vacation is I am able to come home from my vacation feeling like I've had a vacation. While there is plenty to see/do it doesn't have to be done at a frantic pace to see/do it all. There's plenty of time to take your time and see all the little things. I also like that we have time to explore our resort, have pool time and time to see/do some other things in the Orlando area (one of our favorites is to take a day at Seaworld).

I like the slower pace too plus we've seen other destinations in the Orlando area which somehow seemed harder to do when we stayed at WDW the whole time. There is so much to see in Florida! If we need a themepark break, we just go explore a little. And nowadays that applies whether we're at Universal or WDW.

We were there for 2 days. I maybe could have stretched it out for a third, but after that I would have been extremely bored. My husband and parents were bored and ready to head back to WDW early on in the 2nd day.

We go down for between 7-9 days. We do one day out into Orlando in the middle to break it up a little. The nice part about the longer stay is you can slow the pace and enjoy more table service resturants.:)

Also allows some pool time and lounging. We stay onsite and rent a cabanna for a day.:thumbsup2

Two days if enough for me at US and IOA. I don't really care for coasters so that cuts out several rides. I really prefer Disney but we do US and IOA every third year to do something different. My son's are thrilled with either, they are very excited about going to US in May. We are going to sneak in a Disney day with our Give a Day passes. So everyone will be happy. I am excited about seeing the WWOHP, that will be worth the trip.

By the afternoon of the second day I had about enough.

If you just do the parks one full day is good but 2 is more then enough, I could not imagine another day.
