Will I be able to save 2018 Points?

I am a bit confused by DVC's language in recent statements about use year points and was wondering if someone could help me out. We banked our 2018 points to 2019 (June use year) for use on a WDW trip originally scheduled for March 2020. Our trip was canceled and we quickly rebooked for August 2020 hoping that things would be better by then. My question is, are we forced to keep this reservation or lose the points from 2018 since the resort is open and the points are set to expire? Or, can we cancel the trip and keep them until November 2020? I wasn't sure if we could still keep our points since the resort will be open so technically we can go (though for many reasons I would rather cancel). Thanks in advance for any help in understanding this.

Are you sure these were not 2019 UY points banked into 2020 UY?

If you are planning a Nov 2020 trip try modifying the reservation online and see how the system tells you how your points will be used. When making a reservation there is a button you can click that shows how the system will used the points in your contract. . An expiration date is an expiration date so if they are not set to expire till next year with the new rules in place because you were effected by a closure cancelation you have until next year to use them. Disney did not write in the new rules anything that says if you book a room prior to the expiration date and cancel then you points will expire effective immediately. So they should expire next year.

So upon further research, some of my points are from 2019 and must be used/will expire June 1, 2021. The rest of my points are from 2020 and can be either used or banked by January 1, 2021. Thanks for your help everyone! We are going to cancel and wait until things clear up to book again since things are so unclear right now.

According to an email I received from DVC, any 2018 points that were used in a reservation that was canceled due to COVID, will be available for use until 11/30/20. It is a small window, but possible. Hope this helps.

Mine were just dropped into my account. Mine are only good until December. Probably have to move them to RCI to use them.

So didn’t try to book or reallocate with them? Darn...that is the next big question!

But, how does it show they will only be good to November 30?
