With bungalows introduced at the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows and similar cabins coming to the Wilderness Lodge, will DVC add bungalows or cabins to other DVC resorts?

Might we expect to see this happen at Bay Lake Tower?

PERSONALLY will never reserve a bungalow...TOO MANY points IMO:eek::sad2: and we are a family that reserves 2BR's for the majority of our stays. Guess bungalows appeals to some, but DVC should cater more to the masses and not a select market.:goodvibes

I do not think they will as it would destroy the modern design of the resort. I think only the Poly will have them on Seven Seas Lagoon. And probably only Wilderness Lodge will have waterfront cabins on Bay Lake. Now if Disney/DVC builds another resort that could be the exception for Bay Lake.

Wow, I just counted the number of cabins/bungalows you added around BLT. That many would be an eyesore IMO.

Disney will do what makes Disney money, doesn't really matter what we think.

They have a plan and a reason for expensive bungalows/cabins that will cost more points than most will pay while adding additional owners who will be competing for the non bungalow/cabin units at 11 months.

That would be quite hideous. Not sure how I feel about the VWL cabins yet. I like my idea of putting those on the vacant Discovery Island...or do something to the old River Country.

Disney must have something in mind for the speedway that they are closing. I don't buy the "transportation" rumor. That is a big chunk of property.

I would like to see another theme park or a good expansion of existing theme parks to help accomodate the increasing number of lodging choices.

I think Disney will add anything to DVC that they think they can sell, especially if it is for a premium. I guess they will add bungalows if the Poly & WL bungalows sell well.

I do not think they will as it would destroy the modern design of the resort.

Disney has demonstrated that they really aren't very concerned about resort theming/design. When they plan on chopping down so many trees at WL, it is obvious that they aren't worried about losing the Northwest great lodge feel.

I hope that no where else gets as "lucky" as Poly and VWL. And yes, I'm using "lucky" facetiously. Until they actually have the cabins up at VWL I will continue to hope that the plans fall thru. Yuck.

That would be horrid, but it wouldn't surprise me anymore.

Yes, it was my intent to go overboard in the image with a lot of bungalows. I'm just questioning the approach at PVB and now VWL to convert hotel rooms and add standalone bungalows/cabins.

Is this a new trend? Has DVC decided to take this same approach with other resorts?

Will we see this pattern be repeated?

AKV --tree houses on the savanna
OKW--house boats tied to the shore line
SSR--same as OKW
BWV and BCV--SUPPRISE US
POLY - we know what happened there
GFV--more upscale bungalows only with electric and running water and no silly water hole in the deck.
BLT-- just like Mike showed

Well, nah. Can't see that at BWV or BCV. Nothing "nice" to look at except the resort across the "lake". GFV...nope, too "gentrified" for something like that. AKV...hmmm, well I could imagine something like a friend of mine experienced on a safari in Africa...a tent-like structure in the middle of a savannah (no thanks). House boats at OKW and SSR....sounds like something fun. BLT.....nothing there please!!! That footprint is too small as it is. VWL...well, let's hope they do it well.

I don't understand everyone saying the cabins and bungalows will just add points for compitition.

Those rooms will get used.
I have gone on a bunch of cruises. One of my favorite boats was the Ncl majesty. It was tiny ride was rough and the food sucked but I have awesome memories on that boat.
(My wife packed for the trip so I would t embarrass her, one pair of dress pants and the the dining room dress code was no shorts or casual pants!)
I wouldn't ever go on a boat that small again after staying in the haven 2 bedroom rooms or the 3 bedroom suite. Private pool and sun deck, private restaurants. It was an awesome trip.
Was having 2 windows in the bathroom awesome? Yep!

Did it confuse folks to see a 21 and 9 month old with vip cards? Yep.

Are those rooms sold out regularly and booked early?
Yep.

There is a demand for premium vacations not just at Disney.

I think many people bought into DVC to get a premium vacation at an affordable price. I also think that many people feel that the points per night at the bungalows is not a good value, and people will look to stretch their Poly Villas or VWL points by booking lesser point categories.

Look at the other resorts with Standard Views that book up early in a point saving mode. I know that SV at BWV goes very quickly. I would think it is similar at AKV and BLT. So if people buy the new points generated by the bungalows at VWL, then there is history to suggest that they may not be the highest demand category and put more reservation pressure on the other units at VWL.

The scenario I see in the longer run is that Disney re-balances the points which will raise the points per night for the studios, 1BR and 2BR across the board. Personally I'd rather fight for my 1BR reservation at 11 months than pay more points once I get it.

And at BCV, I could definitely see some beach bungalows build out into Crescent Lake.

But isn't what makes Disney money, by extension, satisfying what we want? Or vice versa? There must be a market for these; they wouldn't be built based on the hope that they'll cultivate our needs and wants, for the most part. Do you see much Brother Bear stuff out there?

While I'm undecided about freestanding units at BLT, I'll bet the design would be really cool!

I don't think that holds true for DVC. Disney knows that once we buy, they have a customer for the life of the contract so the need to really satisfy is better spent on cash customers who you have to convince to return. That's why they can build studio only projects, not fix the DVC website, not do a better job cleaning rooms or really care about the looks of a refurbished room.

Lets say that DVC only added the studios and not the bungalows at PVB. Those studios allow them to sell lets say a million points. All owners can book the studios at 11 months and their dates are spread out all year long. Now they add the bungalows which allows them to sell another million points but most of those million will not be staying in the bungalows, they will be trying to book a studio at 11 months. The same thing happens at all resorts but not as exaggerated and some members would splurge for a 1 bedroom but the cost of a bungalow or cabin will be too high.

After our last stay at BLT we got one of the Disney survey's. It asked lots of questions about adding plunge pools or hot tubs to the ground floor units. It seems like Disney is thinking about something at least.

I am most concerned with the disneynutz presented. I am not sure that is going to work out long term for DVC members.
