I'm referencing this story on the DIS: http://www.wdwinfo.com/news-stories/more-troubling-disneyland-forever-fireworks-rumors/

It's just a rumor, of course, but this could give me some heartburn. Honestly, if DL does cancel fireworks for a 6 month period that would cover two trips I have planned in Nov and March, I'll be calling them up and demanding my money back on the APs I just purchased. I don't care what their policy is on "non-refundable" passes. I will NOT pay for park experiences that exclude not only the Rivers of America attractions, but fireworks to boot.

If Disney was smart, and having to cancel the fireworks HAS to happen, then let's hope it'll be after they're able to bring back Fantasmic! They could at least run that each night in lieu of the fireworks. Certainly not as good, but it's better than the PR nightmare it would create to have both shows down at the same time.

You won't get your money back because they canceled the fireworks for six months, these entertainment things are not guaranteed you take the risk of things getting canceled or removed when you buy an AP. Does it suck that these things could be down and out for quite some time? Yes, but that is life and that is a risk anyone is taking buying APs during construction of Star Wars Land.

Fantasmic isn't supposed to return until next year right? Chances of them rushing to make Fantasmic! happen as Fireworks is canceled is highly unlikely. They'll probably still have PTN which is still an entertainment show that is very popular, and people can go watch WOC so it's not like all the entertainment is gone. Would it be a PR nightmare? Probably, but they still have entertainment and people will still complain and whine, but people will still go.

I first saw the rumor a couple of weeks ago and it seems like the person posting the rumor wasn't terribly familiar with DLR's fireworks schedule to begin with. The original rumor indicated that they would eliminate Disneyland: Forever due to budget reasons and instead rely on seasonal fireworks shows (i.e., Halloween Screams and the holiday show). Relying only on Halloween Screams in Sept/Oct would have been new, but preempting the "regular" show for the holiday fireworks show after the start of the Holiday season wouldn't have been anything "new". The new rumor is even more drastic, with the complete elimination of fireworks for a 6 month period.

Personally, I would be very surprised if they eliminate fireworks for the next 6 months immediately after Labor Day. They still mention Halloween Scream fireworks on the Mickey's Halloween Party website (although that is subject to change) and that is a big draw for the Halloween Parties. On the other hand, I wouldn't be as surprised if they did eliminate fireworks for some period after the Holiday season ends (when they would normally go down to a weekends only schedule).

I'm planning to go in October and this turns out to be true I'll be a little bummed but it's not a deal breaker for me. I think of the fact that the fireworks is only ten minutes of my total 4-day Disneyland experience and if it's gone that's 10 minutes (plus the time spent waiting for them to start) that I can now use to ride extra rides, etc. If it does turn out to be true I'm also looking forward to Main Street maybe not being the giant cluster**** it's been since the 60th started!

Obviously everyone weighs different experiences differently and for some like OP this is a serious blow to their plans, and for that I'm sorry!

Hopefully what Figment said turns out to correct, that fireworks continue through the Holiday season in some capacity and then maybe go down.

This is where I am. After 7 long trips to WDW where 3 out of 4 parks has a show EVERY NIGHT (rain or shine or hurricane), fireworks is the big draw to Disney for me. And it's where DL has really been weakest. It's bad enough it's only on the weekends and it gets cancelled if someone sneezes wrong. But to lose it for months WITHOUT F! being around would turn DL into Six Flags as far as I'm concerned.

As far as getting my money back should this cancellation go down, it'll happen. You don't know my wife. Think Beverly from the Goldbergs. It'll be fun to watch!

This made me raise an eyebrow this morning. I know it's only a rumor, but it's enough of one to get my attention. Parades and fireworks are a huge part of what I go to Disney for. I'm really not sure if I would still want to go if both Fantasmic and fireworks were down. I would probably cobble together a WDW trip this year instead, but geez, we probably won't know for some time if there's really anything to this. Dining reservations are already hard to come by at certain places at WDW this fall.

I didn't complain about Fantasmic. I didn't complain about Thunder Ranch. I didn't complain about the railroad. I swallowed hard at the ToT rumor. I swallowed harder at the still unsubstantiated rumor about MK and DL swapping night parades. This would probably be the straw that crushes the camel's back for me.

Oh no, that wont happen... and if it does it wont be a huge factor for us anyway

The first rumor I heard was that DL Forever would stop running and Remember, Dreams Come True would come back. That, I would not have a problem with, as RDCT is my favorite Fireworks show ever and much prefer it to DL Forever.

I don't even care which show. I just want fireworks over a castle. Especially since there's no Fantasmic.

There's an "insider" rumor that an updated version of RDCT might be back.

I don't know what Insider means, but I hope it's true. Although I can't think of why Disneyland Forever can't hang around for years. The only thing that dates it is "Over 60 years ago, you would've been standing...." But that still will hold true for years to come. Is this another cost cutting move? Less fireworks and projections and other stuff.

An "insider" is a person who has a decent track record of spilling the beans on unannounced Disney news. This person didn't mention anything about budgets, but did mention something about incorporated newer IPs **cough**Frozen**cough** into the show.

I for one don't think eliminating fireworks makes business sense. I think the trickle down effect it would cause would offset any financial savings. Just think of how many people pay extra at the Disney resorts to upgrade to rooms with fireworks views.

I don't know what it costs to put on a nightly firework show but I can give two examples of businesses where I live (Houston Astros and Kemah Boardwalk) where similar level of displays are put on every Friday night during the summer. Both businesses combined revenues are probably 1/1000 of Disney's.

Disney fireworks are the gold standard for fireworks displays in this country, maybe the planet. They are as much a part of the brand as the mouse itself. I just don't see them going away anytime soon.

I think it has more to do with needing to redesign and moving the launch area so that when SW land opens it will not have to close for fireworks like Toontown currently does. If it has to happen due to infrastructure then I think that is a very good reason.

Here's a general question I have: traditionally, what has happened with firewworks after Labor Day? Does it go to a weekend-only schedule?? Just Sat & Sun? How about Fridays & Mondays?

Thank You,

John

Off season in the past was always Fri-Sun for fireworks. During the 60th, they made special arrangements with the city to have them every night. If they stick around, then I bet after Labor Day it will go back to Fri-Sun, with the exception of the Halloween fireworks on party nights and during the Christmas Holidays.

I agree! It will stink, but there is no way they will want to close SWL early every time they do fireworks!

Does the same go for WOC over at DCA? Does it go from every night to weekends?

Thanks,

John

I'd like to think they would continue to offer them every night as a give back for not having Fantasmic available at all.

But sometimes I expect too much. Right now I'd be happy with just some weekend nights when we go.

Is it bad that I actually hope they do stop running fireworks for a while? Maybe that would reduce the number of guests as more people would be likely to wait until the fireworks are back. I could finally walk at night in the parks again without major anxiety attacks over the crowds. Don't get me wrong. I love the fireworks and part of me will miss them. But, there's always a silver lining. If you want great fireworks, there's always WDW for those traveling from out of state anyway.
