Will Disneyland Thin Out Crowds?

Hey guys,

I went to Disneyland yesterday and man it was crowded. When I remember when Disneyland hijacked the annual passses because they want to thin crowds. Now, technically I've got myself an signature pass not the plus one and ot only cost eight hundred something. And I'm starting to feel that nobody wants to buy the signature plus pass imo. So, I wonder if it's possible by the end of the year or next means that Disneyland will finally thin out crowds? Just a bit a delusional mind of mine.

I honestly don't think they will ever do anything to thin out crowds unless the local authorities force them to do so for safety reasons.

See, and I was there yesterday and thought it wasn't so bad compared to what it had been on any of my trips from May-October of last year. I guess "crowd" is subjective. I think the price hike on APs helped a little, but in general, I think the crowds are there to stay. I mean, if anything, they may get even worse once Star Wars Land is added to the mix. Sad...frustrating..."but, business is business and business must grow." As long as there's money to be made and fire marshals don't stop it, it will continue.

In short, no. And that's not only because of the APs. Remember, they are currently offering a Socal Flex ticket discount. They wouldn't be doing that if they didn't want more guests.

I think this was due to the number of rides that are presently down for maintenance. Autopia, Matterhorn, and Monorail were closed for maintenance yesterday. And then the usual suspects of the canoes, Tom Sawyer's Island, and the entire back area by the former Big Thunder Ranch are closed for SW Land.

California Adventure wasnt nearly as full as Disneyland. But I do know there were school groups there yesterday - so it was crowded with young people :P

You know, that kind of make sense. Thatnks.

I hope so! We used to love Disneyland but it's hard to anymore when there are no slow days. Our last trip the only time we really enjoyed ourselves was the first couple of hours the first day and after 9-10pm. Otherwise we just sat around waiting on fast pass times because everything was so packed. We used to be able to go mon tues and weds and have a great time. But it's not like that anymore.
I love Disneyland and all things Disney but lately we've been looking into new places to take vacations.

Disney wants it packed every day of the week. They may publicly state otherwise but their actions speak louder than words.

If they really wanted to reduce crowds they would have eliminated the interest free monthly payment plans for annual passes. But instead they just increased prices again knowing that most passholders would continue to pay.

Crowded parks equal big money for Disney and it's shareholders. They don't care if local pass holders and/or tourists have an unpleasant experience at Disneyland as long as they keep coming back and spending money.

Yep, that. They want more crowds, not less.

This is so true. With the current closures there are less attractions for everyone to get in line for. And the closure of the train is huge. EVERYONE has to walk everywhere in the park. Before we'd always catch a train to get to the other side of the park. There was just a lot of closures right now.

I never realized how many people took the train, monorail, and used the back walkway from Frontierland to Fantasyland. Now you have people starting with Tomorrow and/or Fantasyland segregated from the area where Frontier and Adventureland are. We were in Frontier and Adventureland in the morning and had no problems with crowds until about lunchtime when everyone started to head over. We then went to Fantasyland and were shocked at how crowded it was!

Rides are more than the ride itself - there's the queuing and guests on the rides. Take one attraction out of service and those people will have to find somewhere else to go. Having 7-8 things down now increases the perceived amount of people. It's possible we are experiencing the same level of crowds but it looks more crowded because there's less things to entertain people and give the perception of less crowding.

TOTALLY. And the real nightmare is at night during the parade and Fantasyland is closed. You really have a hard time getting from one side of the park to the other. Before the train was an easy solution.

What's amazing is the difference in just a few years. In 2013, we went Vet's day week (Holiday on Monday), and the park wasn't all that bad. Two years later on Vet's Day week and the place was a zoo. And that was the week right before Season of the Force started, so I figured a lot of people would hold off until the next week. Add in the immense amount of closures and it'll be nuts for the next year. It's why I was really trying to head to WDW this year instead.
