I am trying very hard to afford Disney world this year and read somewhere about military tickets available for Dependents. I am now an adult with 2 kids but spent my entire life surrounded by the military and still dependent on him for many things . My Dad retired after 30 years in the airforce and is a vietnam vet and my brother works for NASA at Edwards Air Force base in CA. My Dad goes to Edwards for prescriptions and stuff but I never thought to look into seeing if he can get other benefits. If Disney were to offer the ticket special - 5 day ticket for active or retired militay for free plus purchase up to 5 tickets for dependents and their friends for $99 would I still be considered a dependent and would he have to go to? Does anyone know if this offer will be renewed this year? I read he can also buy WDW tickets on base but don't know how much they would be and he would need detailed instructions on where to go and what to ask for. :goodvibes We have relatives in NW FL and he would probably make a visit to them but he has no interest in amusement parks or driving 4 hours to get there.

Thanks for any input

There is a military deal (4 days for $99), but the AD or retired person must be on the trip. They can buy the other 5 tickets for anyone, dependent or not, but your dad would need to be there.

(You'd not be considered a dependent as an adult child of a retired serviceperson.)

i picked up a copy of the discover mag (dated jan 2010)on the base today.. they say it is a 5 day ticket for 96.75.
the active, retired or reservist is free.
and they are calling them companion tickets.. meaning they do not have be used on the dependants..
anyone know anything otherwise?

from the disney site...
• "Disney's Armed Forces Salute Companion" tickets for family members and friends may be purchased only by active or retired U.S. military personnel, including activated members of the National Guard or Reservists (with orders showing active status after Jan. 1, 2008) and active or retired members of the United States Coast Guard (or, in each case, their spouses, but not both).

Yep, that's correct. Because you are an adult, you are no longer a dependent. Your father could buy the tickets but he would have to be at one of the theme park admissions to actually activate them. Once they were activated you would be o.k. If he plans on going, then you will be fine. Have him go to the tickets and tours office at Edwards. P.S. We were stationed there for 4 years. Good luck!

We just used our Stars and Stripes passes (DH-Army, me and our four children) in October. What a wonderful discount for the Armed forces!!!! DH had a free 5 day PH with waterpark pass. We purchased an 4 additional (baby is only 2) for $99/each. Plus we added on PH ($25) and Waterparks ($25). It would have eaten a huge chunk of our budget if this wonderful offer was not available. I'm glad they are doing it again this year. Although, I won't be going back to WDW until Dec 2011, my sister and BIL may be using this offer this year. I do have a question concerning the guidelines to this offer for this year. I may not be reading it correctly, but it doesn't look like the tickets are good for the entire year. I read something about they are valid until September 2010? Is this correct? Another question...does anyone know if they plan to give a room discount? I just decided we will be flying out Thanksgiving night 2011 and I'm losing my mind trying to be patient.

To the opening poster...drag your dad along with you. We took my in-laws with us on the this past trip. It was their first time going with the grandkids and they loved it! Plus DH and I were able to slip away one night and enjoy an anniversary dinner.

This is the information on the Shades of Green website.

From January 3, 2010 to July 31, 2010, Active and Retired U.S. Military, including members of the U.S. Coast Guard and active members of the National Guard or Reservists, may purchase 4-Day Walt Disney World Armed Forces Salute Tickets for themselves and up to five (5) family members and/or friends for $99.

The base ticket is valid for four days of admission into one of the four Walt Disney World theme parks. The Park Hopper option allows guests to visit more than one park each day. The Water Park and More option gives guests a total of four visits to a choice of a Disney water park, DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park or certain other attractions.

During this offer period, active or retired U.S. military personnel may make a one-time purchase of up to a maximum of five 4-Day companion tickets (one theme park per day) for $99 per ticket, for family members (including spouse) or friends. Although this ticket for family members and friends does not include either the Park Hopper or Water Park Fun & More options, this ticket can be upgraded to add either such option, or both, for an additional $25, per option. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be activated by September 26, 2010. Block out dates 3/27- 4/9/2010 All locations. 7/3-4/2010 Magic Kingdom only. Tickets available for purchase at Shades of Green beginning January 3, 2010.

Your father or his spouse (must have a military ID) must be at the parks with you to activate the ticket.

This info is wrong. It is similar to last year's offer, but does not have the correct prices for that offer. This year the offer is for a 4 day pass for $99 and the servicemmeber does not receive a free pass this year. The offer is not available for the whole year as it was last year.

If you go to this thread in the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies Forum you will get full detailed information. There is lots of information in the first post and then more dertail added (based on questions) in subsequent posts.
