Will Disney ever add a 3rd water park at WDW?

Every post I read about Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach mentions how packed they get during warmer months. Is there a chance Disney would ever consider adding another water park, or even just expand the existing ones?

There used to be a third one - River Country - but it closed in 2001.

Yeah, I almost mentioned River country, but from what I understand its closure had more to do with the park itself (infrastructure & filtration), rather than demand for more water parks. And River Country wasn't half the park that Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach are.

You are correct on all counts.

I think expansion would be the best bet I just can't see disney adding another at least at this point in time. Every resort has there own pools and fun activities the water parks are great but don't attract as much as the theme parks i think expansion will come but not right now. I wish river country could reopen but that wouldn't happen due to the fact it uses lake water.

disney lover at heart

They need a pirate themed water park

They have a water based pirate play area at CBR.
Pirate theming would be excellent for a water park, but that presumes that they'd benefit from a 3rd park. Expansion of existing parks does seem more likely to me.

I like the idea of a dusk to dawn haunted water park in the old River Country area. But that's just inspired by looking at current photos.

Highly doubtful.

While the parks do get crowded during warm weather, they only close due to max capacity a handful of days each year. And even then it's usually one of the two parks that closes...not both.

About 6 months out of the year they have one of the two parks closed--both for maintenance and to reduce operating expenses. Some days they are both closed because the weather is not suitable.

For all of these reasons, it just doesn't make sense to operate a third waterpark. The amount of added revenue a third gate stands to earn would struggle to cover operating costs. Expansion of the current parks is a more likely scenario, but even that isn't something Disney has pursued aggressively in recent years.

I'm for the Fort Wilderness DVC with river country refurbed for the pool. Turn the existing lagoon portion into a disappearing edge concrete pool and renovate the slides.

I think Disney like several businesses used 9/11 as an excuse for certain moves they may have never been able to justify otherwise . . . . . . Just my .02

its kinda odd how Disney seem obsessed with tying up attractions in the main parks with characters/films and also at the resorts and yet the water parks have very little (if any??) links to characters/films.

My guess is that will change sooner or later.

i see no evidence that a new water park is needed...

they are comparatively high overhead, and other than june-labor day are fairly dead the rest of the year...

so much so that now both are on a ten month schedule

~You are so right, lockedoutlogic. I would be happy with one water park (TL), but I'm thrilled to have two. I don't see a need for three but I hope Disney continues to enhance all of the resort pools with "water park" style features. :goodvibes

You are totally correct, but I do wonder what if anything they will do with old River Country.

If they ever did try to reopen it, it would require a total rebuild.

There was some talk about making it a water park for the WL, FW and the possible new DCV western theme resort between the two.

"Assumed to be happening" rumors are always dangerous...but in this case I do definitely see a large DVC project being almost inevitable.

DVC continues to sell and contrary to some inexperienced opinion - the parks are NOT crowded on the aggregate. Plus there is alot of new addition/ construction ramping up... Especially if they build Star Wars stuff.

They need more people to fill that stuff...which means they need more guaranteed people...which they need more DVC.

And they are about out of room...they would be gunshy about building down near animal kingdom as it currently stands...so the ft wilderness area is the prime real estate still available for DVC.

And the poly...but you can pretty much bank that one bow

Sounds good to me-- I'd love to see RC re opened as a DVC appendage. And more DVC adds options. I have concerns about the development of non wdw dvc ( Auluani) because I find it hard to believe people will buy dvc to go to places other than wdw. Especially hawaii. More members booking the harder to get resorts. Maybe my logic is backwards. Reminds me of Saratoga Springs.
