With the recent world wide safety warnings regarding Crocs and moving sidewalks/escalators do you think Disney will ban their "official shoe" on the attractions that have escalators and moving sidewalks, like Pirates of the Caribbean? :confused3

I would think that as long as they approve the disney versions (which they sell in the parks) you are VERY safe!:thumbsup2

They don't even enforce the ban on healies, so I wouldn't worry much about crocs

HA! If you think Crocs are dangerous on escalators and such, look up info on shoelaces!! WAY MORE DANGEROUS!:sad2:

Absolutely not- this warning has been going on with escalators and various other forms of shoes and shoe laces for years. If anything- they should ban escalators!:goodvibes

ITA they would just shut down all the moving platfoms that could cause a danger as they generate no revenue at all for them. Where the Crocs have to be big money makers and we all know they won't stop that.

No.i don't think they would ban them at all.

Escalators can be dangerous with any loose shoe/ string/ hanging item.. whatever.. so, i think all this hype about dangerous crocs will blow over..

I doubt it. Check out www.badshoe.com and see some of the really inappropriate footwear there and you will see that Crocs are NOTHING compared to some of them

But then who would ride the TTA? Seriously... would you ride it if you had to walk up the stairs? :P

I don't think they would ban them for all the reasons the pp's stated. I do think it's a wake up call for those of us w/small kids though to pay more attention when we're riding on escalators. I was shocked when I googled "escalator danger" and read that there are 10000 escalator related injuries reported every year.

Here's one article that talks about a 4 yr old that lost a few toes - and he was wearing sneakers.

and some safety tips at the bottom
So how can you stay safe on escalators?

Experts say adults should always hold the handrail, and children should hold their hands.

Keep your feet and clothing away from the sides of the escalator.

Try to stand near the middle of the step.

Never let kids sit down or play on escalators.

If you're with more than one child, or have a baby stroller, it's safer to take the elevator.

You HAD to bring up my repressed memory, didn't you? :rotfl: TTA died on our last trip...I was riding it alone with my DS2 since I was pregnant and couldn't ride whatever it was the others were riding. We had to sit for half an hour while they tried to fix it and then I had to walk FOREVER carrying my toddler to get off! I DEFINITELY wouldn't recommend it as a walking ride! ;)

No way is WDW banning Crocs. I agree that the whole thing is just a bunch of hype, though a good reminder to be careful on escalators!

My oldest was just 5 when he had his hand on a waist high conveyer belt at the Palm Springs Airport. I was dealing with his baby sister and wasn't paying close enough attention to him. His fingers got pinched. No permanent damage but tears, yelling and some minor owies. Small children and moving parts are always dangerous....you have to be extra diligent. I don't anticipate WDW banning crocs, but I wouldn't be surprised to see an extra line in the warning signs before a ride, especially with moving sidewalks or escalators.

We NEVER would have made our marathon park days without our crocs :scared1:
By the end of the day we were always amazed that everything hurt but our feet!

This is what I was thinking. Flip flops too, in fact any shoe can be danerous on escalators.

all4fun, good advice, Thanks for posting it. :thumbsup2

I too think any shoe can be dangerous, some more then others. I will also say my son did not wear his disney crocs to the magic kingdom for that reason though. I feel other shoes are safer, but exactly as PP mentioned, it is the watching of them, of course it is hard to know how they will step!
