If it is true that there will be DVC units at the Contemporary, will they be like the Inn rooms at VB or will they be studios, 1 and 2 BRs....

Does anyone have any information on this....or just plain speculation. :teeth:

While it was reported on Mouseplanet a while back, it is still just speculation. There is nothing official from DVC.

Thanks HBC, that's why I said "if." I do understand that it is just speculation other than the report today of someone's guide saying it would be announced soon.

I just wonder what people have heard or think about room configuration. If it does come to pass, I would be more interested in typical DVC room configuration than a hotel room. For a hotel room, I would still rather stay at the Polynesian and pay today's rate with today's dollar rather than prepay for a hotel room at CR. Of course, that is personal preference.

Just wondering what others think. :sunny:

Oh...and would this end pool hopping? Or could it even do so?

There will only be "virtual rooms", no physical facilities, all in keeping with the updated "contemporary" theme.

I was wondering that too. They could just keep it all studios. There seems to be a high demand for studios at the other resorts.....

CR rooms are bigger than studios. If they kept the same floorplan, they could do some modified studio that had a bigger kitchen or maybe sneak in a big tub.

If I had to guess though, I would say that DVC would want to keep the rooms the same as the other DVC resorts. Think about all of the discussion that goes on here on the boards about OKW v. BWV or size v. location, point values for one room over another, etc. Imagine if DVC added a new room type?

And I think the point schedule will be the same as BCV. The Y/B Club is always ranked 2nd (after GF), so there is no reason to think that CR would command more.

All that said, we're one of those weird families that actually likes the CR and can't wait to add on.

I think they are going to just tear down the North Wing and build from scratch. That is what DVC knows how to do. They have never remodeled an existing building and I don't think they're going to start now.

And yes, that's pure speculation. :teeth:

I would agree. Speculation on my part too. And since everyone is talking about how they would pay more for CR points, why would you pay that for an old building that was rehab job, when everyone else got new construction. I think the cost of the new construction is built into the inital timeshare purchase.

Great point about the size of the CR rooms. They are much bigger than a studio.

And Jenny, I don't think it is weird at all to love the CR. I have a friend whose family always stayed there when their children were young. It speaks WDW to them. I think it is all about where your family has made memories. :cloud9:

Jenny - my mother loves the Cont. but then she only loves the tower. we have stay in both the tower and wings.

She is now spoiled....

I would think that they would offer studios and 1-bedroom - put them together for a 2-bedroom - more like BWV than the other resorts. (don't expect any GV). however that say - I would expect a minimum number of dedicated 2-bedrooms because of the little kids problems and that extra door to the outside.

or they may offer the same solution that the inn rooms at VB.

but I don't think that WDW has decided the faith of Cont. I really think that WDW wants to kept it as their hotel. they are redoing the rooms in both the tower and south wing. Someone mentioned on the resort board that they were put in the Polyn because their room at the north wing Cont was going into rehab now. No ones seems to know if this is work being done that has to be done, or if the Cont north wing is going to be rehab too.

The CR has always been my husband's favorite WDW hotel. We'd LOVE to see DVC there. But unless/until WDW deeds or leases the land under the north wing over to DVC, it's not going to be DVC. They're two separate entites. If/when that happens, I'd assume we'd hear an announcement soon after.

It's just my opinion, but I can't really see WDW wanting to give up that much PRIME, monorail-hotel real estate to DVC. WDW is better off doing the upscale, full-tilt CR rehab that it looks to be doing. Then advertise the heck out of the new designer rooms, flat screen tv's, etc. And, of course, charge accordingly.

After saying all that, I still hope we get a CR DVC. For us, it would be great!

Well so far DVC has managed to swindle enough prime real estate out of WDW to build 5 resorts. It wouldn't surprise me if they could do it again. Personally, I think they're in cahoots!

I speculate that they will remain more of a hotel style room rather than a studio 1 bedroom idea.

All any of this makes me wonder is "Well, then can they do it at the POLY?" I would be in heaven if there was a Poly DVC... What about some units between the Poly and GF? There is room there!

no the wedding chapel is there.

this is my personal opinion - but when DVC was first though of - I think the next resort after OKW was to be Polyn.

why? because the volcanic islands on the Symbol of DVC.

Key West is not a volcanic island - but the Hawaii Islands definitely are.

So I was a little surprise with BWV, VWL, BCV and now SSR were announced.

I can only think that the resorts must agree to it. VWL and BCV say yes. the Polyn say no.

besides WDW has spend a fortune on the Polyn to get rid of the complaints about mold. they aren't about to tear any of these building down.

where the Cont has needed a rehab for much longer. It will be a great resort when this rehab is finished. It hasn't been a great resort since the 70's. the Polyn has remainder a great resort the entire time.

I think the point structure per night will be higher, much higher.

I would LOVE to see this happen, but to do it right, me thinks the only practal way would be to tear down and rebuild!! Converting those rooms to one-beds would be difficult and probably not feasible! Then again, what do I know about hotels, I only build houses! ;) Although I DO set modular homes, just like the CR! :earboy2:

I bet those points per night would be awfuly high too!! :earsboy:

Dennis, that is something I've wondered about. I know that the Polynesian was built with modules and thought I had read that about the CR too. Doesn't that preclude major changes outside the walls of each unit short of razing the buildings?

Of course, we are now past the "couple of days" before the reported announcement. But it has been fun to speculate. :sunny: Thanks to all who played. :)

As long as CR DVC rooms have at least a kitchenette...
I can't believe how dependent I've become on that.
