Will any new rides open in 2009?

I would like to convince myself to go back yet again.

The Little Mermaid won't open until 2010, but there will be other changes in DCA that may make it worth a go, including the retheming of Paradise Pier. I also am not aware of when construction of Carsland will begin, but I can't imagine it'd be finished anytime in 2009.

Then again, Disneyland was built in a year...

Small World will once again be open starting in November.

And depending upon when you were at DLR last, the Dream Home opened in Innoventions a few weeks ago.

Radiator Springs makes a lot more sense to me since so many of the attractions that are going to be there are based on actual places in the movie (Flo's Diner, ect.)

I'm still hoping by some miracle Disney scraps the idea...I can just see another debacle like Flik's Fun Fair happening.

I agree, I am not so thrilled about the Carsland idea. But I am glad they are adding to the fledgling CA. I am exicted about seeing the Little Mermaid attraction though. Carsland is tenatively scheduled to open in 2012.

I was thinking of those names too. I like Route 66 since that's what Cars is based on and Radiator Springs just sounds a lot nicer and sounds more like a real place than "Carsland." Plus whenever I see the name "Carsland," it looks like it says Carlsbad.

I think Carsland isn't bad, but it's more of a name for Disneyland. DL is made up of "lands". DCA is made up of geographic areas, mainly (bug's excluded of course, but then since you're in the grass while there "land" is of two meanings and could be considered appropriate), so putting a "land" in there doesn't make that much sense. Then again, so many people tweak both that DCA isn't like DL and also that it IS, so maybe they are trying to make some of those people happy by using a "land" name.

OK I'm spending too much time on that other "dissect things to death" board, obviously.

No, I meant what I said. You can find those exact same rides at any state fair or mediocre amusement park (one only twenty minutes away from my home), paying only a fraction of the price. If I wanted to ride the bumper cars I'd go to Lagoon, not pay 70 dollars a day to get a park hopper

Oh, not to mention travel a fourteen hour drive...

I bet it will! On the Little Mermaid 2 Disc Special Edition DVD there is short simulation of a dark ride Disney concepted for the parks when LM was new. I hope its something like like that simluation, because its amazing! I highly suggest you watch it if you haven't yet. It's here on youtube:

With John Lasseter working involved directly with this, I'm honestly not concerned. He knows exactly what's at stake here for DCA. Lasseter grew up going to Disneyland. He used to be a Jungle Cruise skipper in Anaheim. He loves the place and will not allow it to fall apart. Carsland or whatever they end up calling is going to be a shining jewel of the new and very much improved DCA.

Keep this in mind. DCA was built under a management team that screwed a lot of things up. It was built by a CEO who felt that if it was good enough for Six Flags it was good enough for Disney. There is a reason why Iger brought Ed Catmull and John Lasseter onto the Disney side of things after buying Pixar. They know what's at stake here.

I hate to say it but I agree with this. I love the kiddie rides in DL, but not the unimaginative ones in DCA. I'm sure the little ones love it but they would just as easily love the ones at the local amusement parks too that we don't have to pay $70 to enter.

What I like about DCA is that they managed to squeeze into one park some of the rides that are also at WDW. Sometimes they even did a better job of it -- like GRR is way better than Kali RR at AK. I think they should do more of that. How about adding in a version of Rockin Roller Coaster or an Epcot world showcase and Illuminations type fireworks show? Or how about putting in a real stage show like the old Tarzan Rocks that's no longer at AK. That was a great show. I think it blows away Aladdin. Aladdin is good, but Tarzan Rocks was WOW! I hope that if they are doing a Carsland that they put a Test Track type of ride in there. That would be great for the older kids/adults like me who have never seen Cars. For some reason, I just never had the desire to see that one, I hope my reaction to the 'land' isn't the same as it was to the movie.

I like, scratch that, love the idea of a Little Mermaid dark ride. I think CA needs to have new innovative rides like this than rehashed rides and attractions like Muppets 3D or It's Tough To be a Bug. They should bring Mainstreet Electrical Parade back to DL and open that water spectacular as soon as possible. They will need stadium seating though. Rip out the maliboomer, bugs land, jumpin jellyfish, all the carnival games, mulholland madness and give me some real disney magic please!

Is there any room for another attraction at DL if they would choose to do it?

One more thought...Tomorrowland is the only part of DL that I think is inferior to WDW. I love Buzz and Space but the rest of it needs alot of love.

I think it is disingenuous to compare the "rides" found at Bugs with a county fair etc. Although the rides themselves may be similar the environments are light years apart. Also, you are getting a lot more than Bugs for that $70.00.

That's a very harsh thing to say. Just because I have a different opinion than you doesn't give you the right to strike down what I say as false. I get the exact same experience going the Lagoon Park, which I can go to any time I want and pay half the price of a park hopper, and going on the bumper cars there as I do going on "Tuck and Roll's Drive 'Em Buggies". Regardless, I don't think ANYONE will disagree that along with the Paradise Pier midway rides, Flik's Fun Fair is the LEAST of all the attractions at all of DLR. I don't pay $70 a day to see mediocre Disney, even if it is higher quality than regular amusement parks. Not to mention Flik's Fun Fair was really only added to DCA because Disney felt the park didn't have enough to offer to children and came at a time when the budget was low. It is NOT quality Disney work. Hardly anything in DCA that is original to DCA only is quality Disney work. Obviously, I'm not the only one that thinks this, since the company has begun this massive movement to re-Imagineer the park. So please, respect my opinion, too.
