Will an expired Passport get me on a plane?

"Even my 11 year old grandson has a picture ID from DMV that he uses to fly. "

I agree the OP needs an ID; however, children do not need and ID to fly. My nine year old daughter flies at least 4 times a year and I have never been asked for an ID or birth certificate nor does the State of MN Department of Motor vehicle issue ID to children.

I do understand every state is different. I just have never heard of a DMV ID for children.

My grandson got his first photo ID at 6. He's now 11 and we find this extremely helpful. Since we do not have the same last name as he does, there is never a question at the airport. We just put all 3 IDs on the counter and many times the airline reps are very impressed that he has his own form of identification. He has also always had an AP, so again, when we renew, he likes being treated as an adult and showing his ID. We also shows his ID when he buys AP pins, or has attended WDW pin events. There is no question that he is the holder of his AP. It was only $10 to get his first ID and only $5 to renew every two years. We have piece of mind for such a small amount of money.....plus his finger prints are registered with DMV along with his eye scan. I am truly surprised that all states don't offer this, and am really shocked that WV does. It really does make things run smoothly and we never have to worry about him being able to officially identify himself.

PA will not issue a state ID to anyone under 16. I think if you are 16 and don't have a driver's license, they will give you one then. I was surprised too when I tried to get one for my DD.

Call airlines and check their policy. IF NJ is this way, leaving won't be as much trouble as your return flight.

Gillian--I have seen huge improvement with Motor Vehicle employees. Problem is the "official" info MV sends out is ALWAYS wrong. I bought a new car in PA and had to take it to NJ MV for tags. Everything the NJ MV notice told me to do was incorrect and the Inspection Station staff was very nice, but just as frustrated as I was!
What a pain! I'm not surprised that they sent out the wrong materials. DMV as a whole in NJ has some strange stuff going on in management. It seems to be political, but I don't really want to know.
