Will AKL Concierge let you stay on a lower floor?

Just booked AKL Concierge for April.

Will they let you stay on a lower floor if you still pay for concierge and just give you the key access to the concierge floor?

Anyone else not like to stay on the 5th/6th floor? I get butterflies in my stomach every time I step out on the balcony.

We did this at WL in October. Checked in, they offered a 7th fl room and I said no way. So we stayed on the 2nd floor and our keys let us up to the 7th fl

As long as we are willing to pay for it, will they do that?

Even my two kids love being on high floors, but it just gives me the willies:rolleyes

I was wondering the same thing VBfamily. Only because I am a worrier by nature, and I'm extremely worried about not getting a savannah view room in concierge. After spending a fortune on 2 concierge rooms, I think I'll cry if I don't get a savannah view.

I'm told no-smoking rooms are a safe bet. I've posted the question before and no one has responded negatively as to not getting a savannah view.

Back to your question. I was wondering the same thing, If they offer a pool view, can I say, "Listen, I'll take a savannah view on another floor". With the key, you can get into the concierge area anyway.

Any other opinions?

I just called AKL concierge and the CM said he wouldn't think that that would be a problem.

He suggested I call his boss and somehow have it pre-set with him before we get there. The CM said sometimes they overbook concierge rooms and they have to put some guests on lower floors-so it must be doable

We are not going until April, but I know it is going to be packed.

As soon as I asked this I thought-will we have a crummier view being on a low floor or a tree right in the way-I guess I am a worrier by nature too.

 :D

Well that's good to know. This thing with not guaranteeing a savannah view has made me ill.

We are so excited about staying concierge, but a pool view would blow it.

I haven't called them yet. Maybe I should give them a call. You didn't by chance ask their e-mail address, did you?

I did not get an e-mail address

I'm supposed to get a phone call-if I do, I will post what he says.

It sounds like it won't be a problem-but do you handle it before you go or wait until your checking in- that's all I need to know.

I guess in your case-wait till you see if you get a savannah room-if you don't ask for one on a lower floor

I'll let you know if they tell me anything

vbfamily, I can honestly tell you that view from the lower floors seems to be better than the upper ones. We stayed in room 2511 last week and walked all over the resort. We wanted to see the different vantage points, so went out on lots of overlooks. The higher floors got a longer view, but it was more distant. THe lower floors had a shorter view, but much more close-up. We are staying at the AKL for 12 nights next December (do I really have to wait 13 months?), and I don't want anything over the third floor.

I think your idea about concierge on the lower floors is a great one. If I could be guarunteed a second floor room with concierge priveledges I might consider the lung it would cost me!

Erin :D

When I talked with the planning office this summer they even suggested getting a room on a different level. I'm not sure what I was concerned about with the 5th floor (heights or convenience?) I decided against it. I wanted the bigger room. We were very pleased with our 5th floor view on the Zebra trail overlooking the Arusha Savannah:D I would not worry about not getting a SV room. They will work with you to make your stay a pleasant one:D

you said they suggested you get a room on a lower floor,

were you staying concierge?

I just don't want to HAVE to stay on 5 0r 6-it's a height thing. Even my little boy said he does not want to be that high up.

We went on vacation 2 yrs ago and had a terrible problem with fire alarms. They went off at all 3 hotels we stayed at. When we were high up it took forever to get out of the hotel during the alarm and our kids were terrified. This kind of put a damper on staying on higher floors. Luckily, there were no fires.

I don't care what kind of room it is, put me on 2 or 3 and we should be fine-do you think I'm being demanding?

Yes I was staying in concierge. I have a fear of heights with my kids. I'm worried they are going to climb on the chairs and fall off the balcony:( It gives me some anxiety. I had to deal with it at the BWV's before our stay at the AKL. We were on the 3rd floor there with a great view. Once I got a little use to a balcony there it was easier for me to be on the 5th floor at the AKL. I would just talk to them about it. I would think they would understand? I didn't seem like it was going to be an issue for us.

Mirlow thank you,

I can't tell you how much I have been stressing over the savannah view thing. I booked these concierge rooms back in August. And since I found out, I've been stressing.

It's good to know that they'll work with you on your room choices.

Thanks again for the info.

My concierge room was on the third floor last Christmas (it was a one-bedroom suite). Our room keys allowed us access to the concierge lounge, no problem. By the way, my favorite floor at the AKL is the fifth floor (I love the view).

I hope you have a magical vacation. I adore the AKL. :D

Hi Janet,
So I guess they'll put a concierge guest anywhere. As long as you have key access to the lounge.

I would love the fifth floor. That is my preference, however, I would move in a second if I'm told all they have is pool view in concierge.

Did you get the same services in your room? Turn down, robes, etc.

Thanks, I think I may be stressing a little less. It really seems that the CM's try to accomodate your requests.

Lizzie, our 3rd floor room (suite) had all the amenities of a typical concierge room. Here's what the official WDW AKL website says about a concierge room:

- - - - - - -
Concierge Service:
Some rooms offer concierge service which includes curbside check-in, robes, make-up mirror, turndown service, and lounge with continental breakfast, midday snacks, evening beverages, wine and hors d'oeuvres.
- - - - - - -

And if you take a look at my photos of that particular 3rd floor room, you will see that everything was taken care of beautifully (turndown service, chocolates on our pillows, etc.): click here to view some photos.

Once you make a reservation for a concierge room, please call the concierge and ask if it is possible to be placed in a room on a lower floor. If they give you the okay, during your stay they will notify Housekeeping that your room will require the special touches that a normal concierge room requires. They will also enable your room keys to allow you access to the concierge floor/lounge. Of course, please be patient with them if things don't flow smoothly at first during your vacation, as your reservation will be a special situation. :D And if that is the case, I am sure they will take care of the issues immediately and to your satisfaction. I have had wonderful experiences with the AKL concierge staff. They are my favorite. This, of course, is all my humble opinion, and others' opinions might vary, as it should be.

I am not positive about this, but I think only the 5th and 6th floors have the deluxe rooms. These rooms are slightly bigger then the standard rooms. So if you wanted concierge on a lower level you may end up paying more for the bigger room and get a standard room. (Of course this does not apply to the suites).

How did you get concierge service with a suite, does it come with a suite automatically?

I have already spoken with the concierge manager and he said i t would be no problem to put us on a lower floor-I was worrying for nothing. We know that we won't get as large of a room on the 3rd floor, but that's okay with us.

We will just have access to the concierge floor with our key

He said they have had a few people make similar requests.

I guess the bottom line is that they are pretty willing to work with a guest on any request.

We can't wait to go

Terry, you are absolutely correct. Thanks for pointing that out.

Vbfamily, *presently* you automatically get concierge service when you stay in a WDW suite. That was not always the case, and I have personal experience to speak of. I once had a two-bedroom suite at the GF with the Grand Plan package plan. I was not given access to the concierge lounge. Go figure (the cheapskates). The next time I booked a two-bedroom suite at the GF, I did have concierge access. I only bring this important point up because, as with all things Disney, everything is subject to change without prior notice. Make sure that if you go the suite route, you verify that concierge access will be given to you.

The deluxe savannah view rooms are all on the 5th floor is what I was told. We have 2 for Dec.1-6. They are not concierge since they wouod not give me a discount with my Disney Club Card for concierge, but I am going to try to upgrade as I have heard some people say they did get the discount! Just depends on the Cm I guess and I even used Small World Travel!!

DW Mouser,

Did you try when the December codes came out? If not, try that or try with AAA.

My 2 concierge rooms are currently booked with a AAA discount. I believe it was 10%. At least it's something. I staying at the poly also for 5 nights, so we'll be buying one annual pass, so that will help us out as well.

Good luck.

Thanks lizzie64., but since I went through SWT everything has to be done through them now. I've decided to just wait and see. We will not count on concierge but if we get it that will be great! Someone told me I could get it but it would cost $140 per room per night. It just would not be worth that to us since breakfast is the only time we'd be around much except for one night.
