We are staying at Wilderness Lodge in June and I am just not excited about it like the rest of my family is...we are going for my 17 yr old ds graduation and thats where he wants to stay. We usually stay at Poly. Please, someone tell me what they like about the WL?!?!?! I want to be excited about this vacation.

We just got home on Wednsday from a stay at the WL. We loved it, the room was nice. They have two pools, one has alot of families with younger kids and the other is quieter. Plenty of hot tubs. There is a beach and boat transportation just like the Poly. The only difference is no monorail. But we did take the boat to MK ad ride the monorail to EPCOT. It was a breeze. The restaurants were outstanding too at the WL.

Have a great time, you won't be disappointed!

We stayed at WL in December for my first ever trip to Disneyworld.

It was amazing!

It is so beautiful on the inside. You could just sit and people-watch in the lobby, or sit and read a book in a chair by the fireplace.

I was impressed with the selection and quality of the food at the snack bar, Roaring Fork. Best bargain - a cup of chili (about the size of a large at Wendy's) for a snack credit!

If you have a view of Bay Lake, the morning view is just stunning. Watch for the guyser to go off (we could hear it from our courtyard-view room). It is fun to see a duck family make their way around the pool area, and a stroll through the courtyard is pleasant, as they even pipe the music that sets the literal tone of the resort through the landscaping outside.

Enjoy! :thumbsup2

You will LOVE the WL! We have stayed Poly also, but frankly, we like the Lodge better. Honestly, it's just "newer" and fresh. It has a sort of majestic feel to it, as soon as you pull up the drive and enter in the magnificent lobby. There is a rambling brook that begins in the lobby and meanders it's way outside eventually leading you to the pool area. There you will find a beautifully rockscaped pool..complete with a slide built into the boulders. Bay Lake is the background for the replica Old Faithful Geyser which erupts every half hour or so. The music piped throughout the resort and the outdoor areas is serene and relaxing..almost puts you in another place and time. The lobby has Italian marble in the check in area(not very rustic..but beautiful!). Speaking of the lobby..which is spectacular...it is some 7 stories high complete with a grand stone fireplace and totem poles that are works of art. It is quite the place for people watching. I especially like that if the weather is inclement you do not have to walk outside of the resort to reach the lobby area. It is entirely accesible from inside the U shaped Resort. The resort offers both the themed pool, and the quiet pool at the Villas. Which by the way is also our view of choice. We have requested a Villa pool view for our last few visits. The marina offers both water sprites, and pontoon boat rentals. The Electric Water pagent stops at the resort each evening....same as the Poly. We find the water launch to the MK a very pleasant way to reach the park, and often took the water launch even when we stayed at the Poly. Monorail to us, just wasn't a priority. The rooms are newly refurbished. We were last there in May and they were practically brand new. Double sinks..seperate changing area. Each room has a balcony, where we love to spend time unwinding or enjoying our morning coffee. Flat screen TV's in the rooms. The Roaring Forks offer quick bites..much the way Captain Cooks does. The Whispering Canyon is great fun...it is actually part of the lobby area. Be sure to make an ADR for it. Tell your grandson to ask for ketchup...see what happens! There is bar with a small lounge for drinks outside of Artist Point the resorts signature restaurant. I do not think you will be dissapointed with your grandson's selection of the WL.:thumbsup2

I'm loving reading this thread. Future DMIL just announced she would like to take a trip in december 09. Them having a motorhome, this is where she wants to stay, but it's not enough roon for all of us, so the children will be a WL. YEAH!!!

We just returned from our first stay at Wilderness Lodge! I think you will love it! Since you usually stay at the Poly you'll surely go back there again so just enjoy a different experience this time! Hope its great!!

Hands down the WL is my fave Disney World resort. From the moment you get on the path to the resort, you are in a different world. It is just so beautiful, the trees, the rugged rocks, the ducks, the bunnies, the beach. My favorite thing is the first time you walk through the lobby doors and hear the western music. It is inspiring.

The whole resort is gorgoues. From the lobby with it's totem poles, babbling brook and fireplace, to the stream leading to the pool, geyser and beach...I love just riding the boat to Ft. Wilderness, the MK and the Contemporary Hotel.

It is just a magical place.
