I have been searching for information on this. We are staying in a Deluxe room on the club level at Wilderness Lodge. I have read that they offer a few of these to guests on the club level. How much does it cost and is it really only offered to a few people?

Thanks

These are available for anyone staying club level at the deluxe resorts. It starts behind the scenes at the AK and then goes along the route of the regular safari, but it pulls off the road at various times for the guide to talk/answer questions. (It is also a different vehicle, which I think holds a maximum of 14).

It takes one hour and costs $45 per person (unless the price has changed). We have done it 3 times and really enjoy it, will be doing it again on our trip in December.

I just called to book ours today so I happen to know this one. The minimum age is 3. We booked a in room babysitter for our 1 year old since he can't join us.::yes::

Is there a minimum age requirement for the excursion?

Thanks.

DH, DAunt, and I did this last month and it was really fun. There was 1 child on the "excursion" with us (looked to be around age 3 or 4) and they were not in the least bit interested. It's basically the Kilimanjaro Safari ride, except you have a tour guide who discusses the animals in detail and answers any questions you may have.

You pull off to the side of the main road a few times, and that's how it lasts 1 hour long. Also, you get to see just how fast the KS ride goes through the path! It's as if they're speeding while you're going at a nice, comfortable pace. lol

Our guide spoke almost non-stop throughout the tour, pausing only long enough to ask if anyone had questions. When we didn't, he started talking non-stop again. lol He was trying to give us as much info as possible :)

The child on our tour was somewhat distracting at times since he was not at all interested in the adult conversations going on around him and he would try and talk over the guide. The tour guide tried to engage the child a few times, to catch his interest, but the child just wasn't old enough to really appreciate anything that the guide was saying. The parents tried to distract the child a bit, because the child was bored and being a bit distractive to the rest of us, although I personally did not mind at all.

I think there should be a higher minimum age than 3, but that's just my humble opinion :)

wendylou922 - what time of day were you able to book and how far in advance were you able to make your reservation?

SeaSpray - what time of day did you attend?

I think this excursion has just become part of our plan :goodvibes

KS is our youngest son's favorite ride in AK and this will be a nice twist to one of the ususal 3 or 4 times we ride the safari, without the storyline :rolleyes1

Our sons will be 14, 12 and 10 when we travel so they should not be a distraction. I can always threaten them with mandatory attendance at the Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid shows

In fact the problem might be me, the 7th grade science teacher who loves to ask questions and interact with CMs :)

You can book these 90 days out. They are at 10am and 1p; we have always done the 10am.

I think the 10:00am would be perfect - maybe we could sneak in a ride on EE after rope drop :goodvibes

we were lucky enough to stay AKV concierge this last trip in May, and splurged on this excursion - we did the 1pm one.

we really enjoyed it, even our 8 and 10yr. old did, esp. since we gave them cameras they could use to take photos.

I loved all the information we got from the guides. It was fascinating!

If I knew how to post photos here, I'd post some we took! LOL

We did the sunrise safarii at the AKL Club level. They had babies on them & it wasn't very much fun to say the least. It should have had an age limit on the ride. Suppose to be around 45 minutes long but turn out to be less than 30 minutes. Saw more on the Wildlife Excursion.
