We will be staying at the Villas in May. We are driving, so have the option to drive or use Disney transportation. Can anyone offer some advice? How far of a walk is Fort Wilderness? We do not mind walking, but the thought of leaving the parks at closing, finding our car, and loading up to drive a short distance doesn't sound fun to me. Is Disney transportation really that bad? I know there is a boat to the Contemporary where you can catch the monorail would this be better for Epcot than driving? We are planning on visiting all 4 parks and Beaches and Cream restaurant. When should we drive and when should we depend on Disney? Thanks for any experience or advice!!

We have stayed at the WL over 20 times and have never used a car, only WDW transportation. Most of the times we leave the parks before closing and find the bus trips to be fine.

The EPCOT bus from the WL is better than going to the CR then TTC and changing monorails for EPCOT at TTC.

The walk from WL to FW is about 1 mile on a paved path. The trail doesn't have lights. There is also a boat from WL to FW and a bus. The villas and WL use the same transportation system.

We have stayed at 7 WDW resorts and have found the transportation system at the WL to be as good as the others. Some people on these boards say the transportation at the WL is terrible, but we haven't found that to be the case in our stays.

I can't comment on the WL transportation, but in general WDW does a great job in moving a lot of people around every day. If you don't try racing out of any park at closing you will be fine. Take your time, sit, walk, shop, snack, and then when you get outside the park it will be peaceful again. Personally I can't see trying to drive out of any park at closing as very enjoyable when several hundred other people (or more) are trying to get out at the same time.
We have not rented a car for our WDW trips in many years. When I am on vacation at WDW I let Disney take care of everything.

Just a note about your Beaches N Cream meal. You can easily get to there (Beach Club) via the Epcot International Gateway, which is near the United Kingdom. It's only about a five minute walk to the Beach Club. You can also get there from the Disney Studios by walking (15-20 minutes) or taking the Friendship boats. The boats travel between the Epcot International Gateway and the Disney Studios througout the day. They stop at the Beach/Yacht clubs, Boardwalk, and Swan/Dolphin along the route.
