We are planning a WDW in May of 2011 and looking at staying at Wilderness Lodge. Anyone stayed here before? I would love to hear your opinion on it and pics if you have any! What did you like best/least about it? We had looked at staying at Coronado Springs, but read several books stating that it was not that great for kids (we have 2 girls).

Lets start out by saying we've done 43 trips to WDW so far and have stayed at most of the deluxes and for my dollar, WL fits the bill perfectly. The resort is themed out the wazoo, all under one roof, boat transportation to the MK, CR and FW, EWP every night, great pool and 2 hot tubs, activities for the children at the pool each afternoon, and nightly movies on the beach. The restaurants are good, Roaring Forks is the CS, good choices and not bad at all, Whispering Canyon is hilarious place to eat, alittle pricey but it's Disney, Artist Point is very expensive and serves high end meals and you can get some grab and finger food at Territory Lounge. Rooms are well appointed and we have never had any issues in cleanliness, over 10 stays there so far. Bus transportation in all our stays has been terrific, others complain but we never had any real issues, same with the boat, nothing but good.

We like WL because of it's location, close enough to the MK but secluded enough to get away from the park chaos, a deluxe at a reasonable price. We like stretching our buck and stay 9-12 nights to tackle WDW at a leisurely pace and WL affords us the mentality. We've done the monorail resorts, too expensive and the monorail is not that great of a convenience for the money. We have done club level, not bad for the meals and drinks but just too pricey for what you get, we do a grocery stop and load up on sandwich fixings, snacks, drinks and the like and put that savings into staying longer. We love it, make some sandwiches, load the cooler and head to the pool for lunch time picnic. Take my word for it, you'll never regret staying here.

Love it, love it, love it! This trip will be our third stay at WL. Great for kids and adults! Something for everyone. Can't beat being a relaxing boat ride away from MK!

Have fun!:cool1:

If you go on the resort board there are multiple threads about Wilderness Lodge with tons of photos.

It's my favorite!! Me & my husband actually got married there!

I've never stayed at CSR, so I can't give an opinion on that, but I can tell you that my whole family LOVES the WL! My kids adore it, especially the fantastic pool (and the water slide in the middle). We love the theme, the majestic lobby, the convenience to MK, the beach, pretty much everything. My boys especially love the bunk beds. My 6-year-old is pretty mad at me for switching us to the Polynesian for our next trip, but we're going to have 5 people in the room and couldn't get one of the WL rooms that sleep that many. If you go, ask at check-in about being a Flag Family, it's fantastic! You get to go up on the roof and help with the flag raising.

I always wanted to stay here, but sadly, our family size precludes us from staying here.

I love the Wilderness Lodge. We have stayed here 2 times, the only negative is that the rooms seem a little smaller than the other deluxes. You will love the lobby. As soon as you walk in your mouth will drop in awe. The electrical water parade passed by every night. We would go down to the dock every night that we were not in one of the parks and watch it go by. You have to check out the cute totem pole in the lobby. I bought a small one in the hotel gift shop, very cute. This is also the most reasonable price point for a deluxe resort. Enjoy your trip.

thanks everyone!!! I really appreciate the response! Can't wait to experience WL for myself now!!

We LOVE WL!!! I am surprised that no one has mentioned how easy it is to travel within the World from WL. The ferry boat is super convenient and is a relaxing trip over to MK, the Contemporary or the campground. Take the ferry over to the Contemporary and catch a ride on the monorail to Epcot if you'd prefer to skip the bus..... so many options!

Our kids loved to watch the gyser and the water parade from the dock. They also thought it was funny to see ducks in the swimming pool! :rotfl:

Also, if you're traveling with kids and encounter a rainy day, check out their kids craft station. Cute little crafts for the kids to make and plenty of Legos, blocks and Disney movies to keep them busy for awhile if you just need some down time. We had a pleasant hour or so there and my girls still talk about making the fun magnets for the fridge.

Overall, we absolutely could not have had a better experience. Our family has "outgrown" WL and we'll be at the Poly this year...

We love WL!!! We've stayed there 3 times. It is beautiful and we like the fact that everything is in one building. The boat to the MK is great. We've never had any trouble with the busses. DD has stayed there December 2008 at 2 yrs 10 months and in May 2009 at 3. She loved WL both times. I've stayed in all 3 room types, and I would suggest that you upgrade to woods or courtyard instead of standard if you can. When we stayed standard, we wound up over the service area with beeping trucks and dumpsters being emptied every morning. We liked both the other room view types. I think you made a great choice!

My first trip back to disney since the 80's was at WL in 2006. It was our first trip for our DS too who was just turning 6 at the time. We absolutely adored the WL. We got a room with bunk beds and DS loved that, our view was kind of dodgy...it was of the back services area BUT we had an awesome view of the fireworks from our balcony so that made up for it. The room was large and comfy, we had great nights sleep there. The lodge itself was very impressive from the moment we stepped in the door. Our son was floored! He loved the pool at WL and spent many hours going up and down that waterslide, in fact he loved the WL pool more than typhoon lagoon!. The boats to and from MK were nice too, it was a leisurely way to get back and forth, and we loved that boat ride at the end of the day. We just booked our 2nd family trip with the kids and it took a lot for me to not book WL again, we wanted to try somewhere new this time. But I def do see us staying in WL again in the future, and I recommend it to anyone asking for good disney hotels. I hope we like the beach club as much as we liked WL.

The WL is beautiful and the kids love the theming. However, we had difficulty with transportation, but that's really because of how my family moves. Our kids are 12 and 15 and on the go, so we can get out and about quickly. I found the bus experience to be awful at WL - but it can be awful anywhere. I also found the boat painfully slow too. It's much more pleasant for us to stay at Beach Club where we can walk to two parks or Poly where the monorail is right there. I also found the rooms a bit small and dark compared to others. Although it's not the best fit for us, the price is right and obviously it's a great fit for many other families. The CS option is good compared to other resorts and we love the Territory Lounge.

We love it!!! We have also stayed at CSR. The one thing I wouldn't like at CSR with kids was the size, some rooms are FAR from the main building. They do have an internal bus, but we just thought it was really big. Although many people here like it, we also didn't care for the pepper market. I am an admitted picky eater and just did not like the food. So if you had picky kids, and were planning on eating there it could be an issue.

We stayed at the WL in 1999 with our two kids - a boy aged 9 and a girl aged 7. We loved the resort - beautiful, great pool, boat transport to MK. Also, one of the main reasons that I chose the WL is that you can get a room with a queen bed and a set of bunk beds (instead of the standard 2 queen beds). That way, each child had their own bed. They really liked not having to share a bed.

BTW, we asked at check-in and were Flag Family one morning of our visit. It was really nice to be able to visit the rooftop and help raise the flag. The CM got a nice picture of our family with a nice background view from the roof.

We are going to be staying at WL for the first time next month. I'll let you know how we like it.

We stayed there last August in the VWL. We loved it! Great theming, great location, great atmosphere. Definitely recommend staying there. :thumbsup2

We love, love, love WL! There is whoosh of atmosphere that hits you when you walk through those doors. Breakfast (or any meal!) at Whispering Canyon is always a must. Don't forget to ask for the ketchup!

We stayed at the WL with our kids and absolutely love it. It is the most reasonable of the deluxe resorts, close enough to MK and yet isolated enough to feel you can get away from the parks and relax. DH does not want to stay anywhere else, so we are headed there next week. :love2::dancer::dancer::dancer:
