Wilderness Lodge: Why so (relatively) cheap?

Very excited to have just booked a big birthday trip to WDW in May! I definitely wanted a Deluxe Resort with monorail or boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom, and Wilderness Lodge was the cheapest. I checked TripAdvisor, and there it is ranked second only to the Grand Floridian, so obviously people really like it. Just wondering why then it is the cheapest Deluxe Resort--is it due to the construction?

When the WL was first built rumors were it was suppose to be in a category that was between deluxe and moderate due to the room size.

I don't know how true that is, but whatever the reason it's a beautiful resort with a very relaxing atmosphere.

A lot of good responses. We love the ambiance, the serenity (though that will change a bit with new construction), and the proximity to MK. Bus service in my 13 years staying there has always been above average to excellent. Toss in the boat service, and WL becomes a gem. It's relative remoteness has a lot to do with the lower price.

I wouldn't say 366 per night is cheap.
Depends on what you compare it to. For Disney standards, maybe. Even in real world, it's not awful. We were in Gatlinburg last weekend and paid half that for a smaller room with no amenities at all. While yeah, it was half that it was Gatlinburg, and just a bed. Smaller room even. So I'd say even by Disney standards WL is pretty reasonable.
