Wilderness Lodge Villas

Talked to our guide earlier this week, and her word was they anticipate a sell out by mid-January. 'Course, they've been saying sell out since around Thanksgiving, but I'm betting she's pretty much on target.

I heard the same thing too, soon, maybe mid January for the sell out. For most of the year they were saying yearend sell out, seems they are pretty much on target. Maybe that price increase they did mid year hit the breaks just enough, add to that the events of 9-11, maybe they won't be without a resort to sell for very long.

At the BWV member update in the end of November, they said about 45 days till sell out at the current rate of sales.

ORKY, if your heart is set on VWL, I wouldn't wait. Otherwise, I feel that in THIS climate you could do much better financially with a resale at BWV or OKW.

Good Luck,

As DVC'ers, do you currently have the option to buy some VWL points, but less than the 150 intro amount, or do you have to wait till it sells out and they offer smaller add on quantities?

I'm asking because it might make sense to buy a resale of 100-200 points at OKW or somewhere else, and then buy 50-100 more points at VWL. Could I do that?

From my understanding, I would then have the 'home resort' perks of both resorts, so even if my WL points were only %50 of my total points, I could still have the earlier window for reservations. Is this a correct assumption?

I would like to have VWL as a home resort, but I would also like to purchase a resale to save money...so I can get more points, of course!!!

ORKY15;

Just to clarify. Having points at more than 1 resort DOES NOT entitile you to the 11 month Home Resort booking priority for all your points. The 11 month priority applies to only those points that you have in that particular resort. The balance of the points that you own will have a 7 month priority if used for another DVC resort other than where the ownership interest lies.

For instance if you own 150 OKW points and 150 BWV points, you have a 11 month priority window for 150 points in either of these two resorts. If you want to make a reservation, lets say at OKW, using 300 points....150 points have a 11 month priority window, and the balance of 150 points can NOT be used until 7 months out for this OKW reservation as the points to be used are BWV points. Get it !? This is a common misconception among relatively new members to DVC.

Orky15.

It used to be that a new member buying in had to buy a contract of a minimum of 220 points. Several years ago they changed the minimum to 150. Although, there has been discussion about some new members buying contracts smaller than 150 points via the resale market, and Disney let the sale go through. But, if buying from Disney - I'm pretty sure Disney requires a minimum purchase of 150 pts for your first purchase.

Once you've "bought in," you may purchase add-on contracts for less than 150 points at any resort at which there is availability.

And, though some people have had success at purchasing small add-on's at BWV and OKW following their official "sell-out," it doesn't appear to happen very often, and several have reported being on a wait-list for QUITE some time before the contracts became available. So, don't count on purchasing at VWL once they're offically "sold-out," unless you're willing to wait a long time... (or hold out for the a small contract on VWL to come up on the resale market...)

So - if you're wanting to purchase less than 150 at VWL - you could do this now, prior to sell-out, if you'll go ahead and purchase at least 150 at another resort, first. (from Disney or resale)

FWIW.

Correct, if purchasing direct from Disney, minimum purchase is 150 points, add ons 25, 50 if using Disney financing. You could do a 150 point financed purchase at VWL, then do an add on at that or any other DVC resort, the add on does not have to be the same resort as your original purchase. Referance my above thread for treating points at more than one resort.

A resale purcahse albeit cheaper, MAY entail closing costs, and of course, your own financing arrangements. Disney wil finance your purchase for up to 10 years, with a 20% downpayment. I have heard of people who financed with a smaller downpayment. If you are planning a WDW stay soon, you may consider using that cash as your downpayment and move ahead with your DVC purchase.

Here's a strategy I've heard regarding using points with different windows: Use the 11 month window points to nail down the weekday reservation, then pick up the easier to come by weekend points using the 7 month points...link the reservations and you are set...

Another option, of course, is borrowing and banking from the same resort.

Assuming you have 50 points...

Bank 50 from the previous year and barrow 50 from a future year. That way you would have 150 points available at the 11 month window.

PKS44....great strategy tip! I hadn't read that one before. Makes a lot of sense and seems like it should work, except maybe at the peak times.

Thanks for the tip. :)

I just talked to my guide and she let me know that they are expecting a sell out at the current rate in the next 2-3 weeks
