Wilderness Lodge - single night

I'm already planning my trip for summer 2005 and since doing the maths I realise I can't afford to stay at Wilderness Lodge for the entire time (Booo!). So I was thinking of staying a single night just to satisfy my curiosity (and so that I can buy a re-fillable mug - how sad am I ). The problem is that I'd like to do this about halfway through our holiday but don't want to check out of our regular hotel (probably ASMo) and have the hassle of moving luggage etc as we don't hire a car (the States are not ready to experience my driving skills ). I'm happy to waste 1 night of accommodation at ASMo because it's still cheaper than staying the whole time at WL.

Is there any way I can do this? Do Disney get a bit funny security-wise about you being checked into 2 hotels at once? Has anyone else done this?

Why not just vist the Wilderness Lodge rather than staying there for one night? You can still soak up the atmosphere, visit all the public areas, have a drink in the bar, eat in Artist Point, sit in the lounge to wonder at the giant fireplace. The only thing you can't do is swim in the pool and sleep in one of the rooms! We often enjoy visiting the other Disney hotels for an evening or two. Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge are particularly enjoyable.

I like Rob's suggestion of visiting WL rather than actually staying there, especially if you plan to return straight back to ASMo.

But, as an alternative, why not bite the packing / moving bullet and plan a couple of different resorts into your itinerary? I used to hate the idea of packing / unpacking mid-way through a trip, but now we do it as a matter of course. A change of resort seems to make the whole trip last much longer! I do appreciate that this kind of semi-nomadic lifestyle doesn't suit everyone, though! On our next trip we'll be in five different hotels in 15 nights - that's probably a bit excessive , but it suits us !

If you do move between Disney resorts, they will take care of all the luggage for you. You just hand it over to Bell Services at one resort and then collect it from them (or have it delivered to your new room) once you arrive at the next resort (having spent the day in the parks, for example). Not having your own transport doesn't matter.

If you do decide to stick with your plan to spend one night at WL, you could still use the Disney luggage transfer system to save the cost of that night at ASMo - that would pay for your evening meal .

I agree with Hilary, changing resort is not that much hassle and you get a better feel for the accomodation, WL is lovely we stayed there as part of our honeymoon.

One thing I recommend everyone to do is to spend one night at the universal resort, you could do that for your last night, and you will get express passes for US and IOA for two days.

Is it possible to visit the Disney hotels even if staying off site. We are staying at the Marriot Village in LBV in a few weeks and have never considered sight-seeing the WDW hotels before, but seeing as we are on the doorstep?

I presume they have security at the resort hotels, is it there to keep out the likes of me who is just going there for a nosey or are non-resident visitors welcome?

We are staying at Marriott Village LBV too in 8 weeks. We have PS's for Animal Kingdom and Contemporary. May even have a buffet at the Polynesian, but that will depend how good the eateries on our perimeter

I'm looking forward to having a look around the lobby and public areas of the deluxe resorts, and eating in their restaurants .

Hilary, I didn't know that they would move the luggage for you. Hmmmm, now I need to start thinking again. Rob, we visted WL last time we went which is why we fell in love with it!!
