We are on the verge of booking a package for the later part of next month (July)

If we book a "standard location" room what can we expect? How noisy, etc..... ? Are these rooms directly above the Whispering Canyon? Is it worth the savings over paying extra for a courtyard room?

Can anyone give advice to good room numbers or areas/floors of the hotel which would be a more desirable standard room?

Are there areas in the Wilderness Lodge with internet access? Public areas-

A woods or courtyard view is definitely worth it at the Wilderness Lodge. Unless you like looking at the parking lot or garbage dump.

You can purchase high speed internet in your room for $9.95 per 24 hour period. You can also use dial-up if you have a local access number. AFAIK there is no internet in the lobby or other public areas.

Some of the standard rooms look towards the MK...but they also look towards the loading dock. I would pay the little extra to stay in a woods view--it's not that much more.

Right now the dates I have chosen the only rooms available are standard or courtyard view. I am leaning toward the courtyard view after reading more on here because we are concerned about noise and an awful view.

From the pictures I have seen, courtyard view is beautiful, but pricey....The only rooms types available for my dates are Standard and Courtyard as well.

The one time we stayed in a regular room at WL (as opposed to the Villas) we had a standard -- with a beautiful view of the loading dock. After we got to the room DH told me they had offered him an upgrade to courtyard (for a price, of course) but he turned them down! "We can use that money for other things." For the sake of marital harmony I let it ride :), but we now go to the check in desk together! No, I'm not a control freak, really I'm not (well, I guess I am, a little!;) ).

I would say that if you can swing it financially, go for the courtyard view. My family and I stayed there over Memorial Day weekend, and because I made a last minute reservation, all that was left was a courtyard view. We faced the smaller pool and the villas, and it was so peaceful to wake up to see all the greenery outside. Before this trip, I would have never believed a view would be worth the extra money, but it really is at the Wilderness Lodge.

We stayed standard view at the WL this past Dec. We loved it. Our room was right above the check in desks, and we loved it. We didnt notice any noise from WCC when we had our door closed to the room. I loved having the rocking chairs right outside our front door to sit in and overlook whats going on in the lobby. We went at Christmas so there were different choirs performing in the lobby in front of the big tree at various times. Our outside view was nothing great to look at- just roofpeaks- but that didnt matter to us. We really dont spend too much time on balconies wherever we stay.

We just got back from WL on Tuesday. We had booked a standard view for DD's birthday but when we got to the desk they offered a free upgrade to courtyard view. :thumbsup2 We had room 4049, across the hall from standard view. The view wasn't that important to us, though we did enjoy sitting outside after the kids were asleep. A couple of nights we wished we had the standard view because we heard the Wishes fireworks but could only see them from the window down the hall.

If you plan to spend a bunch of time in the room hanging out on the balcony, be sure to get courtyard. We were always up early for the parks and out of the room before even looking outside. In the PM, if we came back to the room at all, the kids would look out to see if the pool was open, then we'd go down there. One time, by the time we got to the pool, it was closed due to lightning, so having the view of it didn't help.

It's up to you.

We got a free upgrade from Standard to Courtyard, also. But I can't promise that it will happen for you. I didn't even know we got one until I got to my room. I'm like the previous poster. If you think you will be spending a lot of time on your balcony, go for the Courtyard view. It is amazing! We were in Room 5043.

Here is the view from our room.

One thing that is high on my list for vacation happiness is a balcony with a pretty view. I like to sit on my balcony and do so often on our trips. I would book Courtyard view. If balcony and view aren't important to you, then save $$ and book standard-sounds like at WL the chances of being upgraded are often pretty good.

We just got back on June 8th from a 6 night stay at the Wilderness Lodge. We had a standard room, I think it was #6048. Our room did overlook the loading area and the smokehouse but we rarely heard anything from down there. Now maybe on a lower floor you might but not up high. And we had a great view of the fireworks at MK every night at 10 pm. We never heard noise from other rooms and we were far enough from the elevator that we didn't have to hear it all the time. The lobby area is noisy during the day, just because it is big and things echo and The Whispering Canyon can be loud at times but I don't know if you would be able to hear it with your door closed or not. The standard room worked great for our family. It was worth it to be able to let the kids watch the fireworks from bed every night.

Its a shame that such a nice resort has so many rooms with below average views.

Thank you for the all the advice - I booked our reservation and they had a woods view available so I took it!

Excellent! The first time we went I booked a standard room and we were not offered a free upgrade...DD went out on the balcony, announced "it stinks up here!" DH looked horrified, so I went down to the desk and told them I was not happy with my room and would pay for an upgrade. They gave us a woods view for free, but I would have paid for it.

Now I always book a Woods View ... :thumbsup2 This time I hope we get another one with a great view of the fireworks, which we did last time.

AHHHHH!! Stop talking about the Lodge! I miss it so much, I'm going crazy! We just returned on Sunday after spending 10 days there and I absolutely fell in love with it. I am so "homesick". We booked standard and got an upgrade to a beautiful woods view. I was in heaven. I did not care one bit that the resort was not a monorail resort (I have come across some Deluxe snobbiness, which I thought only existed between the three tiers of resorts). We will definitely be back to stay some time in the future. Enjoy it while you are there- you will miss it when you leave! princess:

We just got home Wednesday night after 6 nights at the Lodge. I paid extra for the Woods view, because our last stay we were unhappy with the "smokehouse view" that I got with a Standard view. We heard a lot of delivery trucks early in the AM. Imagine my surprise to find we were 4-5 rooms down from the last room! And we had a not-so-beautiful scummy pond below our balcony. The woods were nice, and we had a GREAT view of the fireworks at MK. But the real problem were the boats coming into the dock; even though we couldn't see the water, we were on the water side. Every boat that arrived blew its horn, so every 15-20 minutes from 7:30am until around 1am we heard horns. We finally learned that if we kept the ceiling fan on high it drowned them out enough that we could fall asleep at night. I love WL, but unless I can pick my room next time, I may go back to AKL - my other favorite!

Jeez, I'm booked in a standard room in Jan., and I hope we don't get a terrible view! I always equate standard with "parking lot", but I hadn't thought of trash facilities!! We don't spend that much time in the room anyway though! But I'll have to ask if they have any upgrades available when we check in!

Okay all of you that have gotten inside courtyard view, is it better to be on a much higher floor? I know requests are not guaranteed but I thought I'd be prepared for check in. We do tend to like higher floors anyway, but opinions are welcome.
