Is it really worth the money to stay onsite at WL vs. offsite at a nice suite for a lot less money and bigger rooms and free food?

In my opinion, it's just a matter of family situations, money and the time of year you go. In our case, I knew I was going to go in the "off season" so I booked a room a moderate room with a AAA rate and hoped for a discount code for my week. Once the codes came out, the WL prices were great so I upgraded and changed my ressies. For me, it just seems more convienent to stay on property. You don't have to worry about driving in and waiting in the lines to park. If you leave to go back to your hotel to take a nap/rest/swim, would you really feel like driving back to disney? We have three small kids and one less than 2, the thought of leaving for her nap and then going back later (staying off property), I dout we would ever go back. Waste of money. You can use the Disney transportaion to get around all the parks and to Downtown Disney. You don't have to pay to park everyday. I guess really, it is a personal choice. If my kids were older, I would probably stay at an off site hotel. Just my two cents.

10 more days until we go to the Wilderness Lodge!!!!

Thank you very much for your "two cents" LOL I appreciate it. I have been wondering this same question for weeks. Well I hope you have a wonderful time.

beautybelle,

This question comes up a lot. I have personally stayed on-site and off-site, often on the same trip. I have even stayed at the VWL. I prefer to stay on-site because I like the 24/7 Disney "magic", the wonderful themes of the resorts, Disney transportation, proximity to the parks, the food courts in the Value and Moderate resorts and the pools in the Moderate and Deluxe resorts. At WL I really like the pool and the boat ride to the MK.

I stay off-site to save money. End of story.

The most interesting part about this particular question is that you will get a completely different answer if you ask it over on the Orlando Board :). Most people who post here stay on-site. Most people who post on the Orlando board stay off-site.

Ha....I think I will try that and see what I get. Could get interesting, ya think? LOL

Just to be funny.....

You mean there are people who actually stay off-site instead of experiencing the magic on-site?

But, I HATE HATE HATE to drive. So, the thought of staying off site and not having the Disney transportation system would freak me out.

Are u sure you arent my husband on another computer somewhere................He absolutely hates to drive too. The last time we where there, you know how you have to have a credit card to rent a vehicle? Well me and my hubby were the only ones in our group that had a credit card (there were 3 other adults with us on this particular trip) so he had to do the driving after about 2 days of swerving all over the place and missing turn-offs and whinning, I gave out and told his older brother to just drive the darn thing that I wanted to live long enough to get out of there. LOL And here we are gonna do it again, only this time he will HAVE to drive cause there isnt nobody goin with us. So wish me luck, I will need it. :Pinkbounc

YES!YES!YES!!!!!
We stayed onsite for the first time in November at WL and it was so much better than staying offsite!!
I don't think we plan on staying anywhere else but onsite now!
You can definitely get decent rates there and at others; we stayed at WL for $135; we're paying $109 at ALK next week (with our AP rate)
It is SO worth it!!

How is everyone getting these great rates, everytime I call they quote me I think its like 239.00 for a standard room.

Price is based on time of year (value season, regular season and peak season). I got 119.00 a night on the last week of value season. If you go to the Disney site they will have a listing as to when each "season" starts and stops. Hope this helps.

When are you going? Are there any codes out for the time you are going? If there are, then I would definately stay at WL-I always prefer to stay on-site for the same reasons others have posted.

With a code, you may be able to get a really good price on a room, maybe even better than some places off-site.

I am staying in May and I dont think there are any codes out for that month yet. I am gonna keep looking though. I figure when they come out someone will mention it on here. There seem to be a lot of people going the same month I am so Im sure I will hear something when it comes out. Id love to get a good rate and stay there. My son would go crazy. I'd love to surprise him with a stay at WL. Wouldnt that be a dream come true for a 6 yr old. I'd think so.:)

We stayed offsite for our first two trips to WDW, and I hope to never stay offsite again!

We just returned from a stay at the Wilderness Lodge, and I had been reading positive things about this resort for years. Before we left, I was hoping that the WL would live up to the hype, and guess what?

It did and then some! I loved this resort! The theming there is incredible!

Some people prefer to stay in a 2 room suite offsite for the same price (or less) as you could onsite.

But for us, there is no comparison. I'd rather stay onsite in a one bedroom than offsite fighting the traffic coming onto WDW property.

Part of our vacation is not only the theme parks, but the themed resorts as well.
