Wilderness Lodge question

Not at all. I'm a clean freak when it comes to hotel cleanliness and usually find something wrong, especially in the bathroom. Not at the WL. I was actually surprised of how very clean it was. Another thing, people often say that WL rooms are dark, but they're really not. It's just the rustic style of the place. And this only my opinion, if you're in the parks all day long why would you wanna come back at night to such a brightly lit room anyway? Years ago at the CBR, now that was filthy.

We have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge a few times, we will be back in August and have never had a filthy room. We have had a problem with cleanliness at the Polynesian CL along with several other issues there so I do understand your question.

Just so you know, the a year long room refurbishment is about to start at WL from late April this year until April of next year. We are hoping for a new, clean room for our trip in August.

I'll be quick and to the point.

Are the rooms filthy?

I've personally never experienced a "Filthy" room or "Filthy" anything else at WL. However, I have had a mold laden bath tub/shower at the BWI that affected me pretty badly.

Wow! Where do people come up with these questions? We love Wilderness Lodge - and not it is not filthy.

We've stayed there 3 times and 1 time at VWL which is of course the DVC side of WL. First trip was fantastic. Our mousekeeper did such an amazing job that we actually wrote a letter to Disney Guest Services to make sure she was recognized. That particular trip was a special occasion for us and we moved up to concierge level after a few days and asked if she could still be our mousekeeper (of course that was unrealistic but she was that good!). The cleaning up in concierge was not at all impressive and several guests in the dining lounge commented on this.

Second trip, same area of the hotel as part 1 of our first trip, different mousekeeper and the room was not filthy but it needed TLC. There was some food remnants from a previous guest on the carpeting, things were dusty, just didn't have the really great feel it did the year before. Papers left on the patio. Just not great but absolutely not filthy!.

Third trip was good. Very clean, neat, tidy.

Last year at DVC....well I was so disappointed after being at AKL and then seeing the unit we had at VWL.....no comparison. But sticking to the cleanliness part of it, the jetted tub was so nasty that I asked mousekeeping to please clean it. Somehow the supervisor of mousekeeping personally came to tend to it and she was livid! She ended up doing multiple treatments of a demineralizer and scrubber on the tub to get all the crud off the jets and out of the tub. There were other things over there that didn't thrill me in terms of the cleaning but again....that is the DVC side of it.

In regards to a PP's comparison going from GF to WL....really? That is like comparing AK and MK. They are completely different experiences. WL is supposed to feel rustic and lodge like. If you think those rooms are dark, don't ever stay at AKL! lol

Good Grief......I purposefully put the disclaimer in and NOT ONCE did I say that WL was dirty or filthy,I SAID "and I really liked the WL, we had fun and it's a beautiful hotel" with the exception of the poop on the floor in the hallway (which maybe isn't dirty or filthy to anyone else, but it is to me). I said numerous times that WL was nice, even said beautiful I was giving MY OPINION (which I stated) which I know is allowed on the boards. I wasn't even *comparing* GF to WL...and the times I did were when I said "dark and gloomy" and "dark and rustic", and that "bathroom wasn't exactly what it was at GF" (and we had a regular room there, nothing special, which was set up EXACTLY THE SAME AS WL's bathroom-- same bathroom, different color scheme/tiles)but I never complained about it! I even complimented the housekeeping there. AND I also said I'd never do a split stay again...I NEVER SAID I'd never stay at WL again!
This is a perfect example of what I didn't want to happen, hence my disclaimer and happens often on the boards (sadly)....people twisting words around and clearly getting offended! I wasn't even going to come back in this post, b/c I answered the OPs question...but so many people mis-quoted me and pointed back to my post (reg GF) I felt I had to!

:confused3 I think only one poster even referenced your original post on this thread. Everyone else was responding to the OP. So relax a bit, okay?

Totally relaxed, I just got back from Disney a week ago! :) 1 person quoted me, 3 others referenced my post.

****DISCLAIMER -- keep in mind we transfered from GF and I hope I don't offend anyone, this is just my opinion!!!*****
We did a split stay at Grand Floridian and WL recently and I really liked the WL, we had fun and it's a beautiful hotel....but coming from GF to there was a little disappointing....the room was much more dark and gloomy and the bathroom wasn't exactly what it was at GF....but it wasn't filthy or dirty. It was just dark and rustic.

Wow! Talk about twisting people's words and clearly getting offended over people just sharing their opinions! lol Yup I referenced you because you clearly are talking about being at one resort and then going to another one and you were essentially comparing them. Nothing wrong with that at all! And there is nothing wrong with my reference comments about what you said either. Those are two completely different styles of resorts and that merited mentioning. Did you miss the part where I gave you a little forewarning that AKL is even darker so you wouldn't be shocked if you go there?

This is conversation and it is what people do on the DisBoards. I absolutely wasn't offended by what you said, I don't feel I twisted your words, and I honestly don't know why you are so reacting so strongly to this. :confused3

You really need to chill. Your post really wasn't all that- no one was attacking you or being offended. A couple of people simply voiced an opinion about your opinion KWIM. That does not constitute an attack. 99.9% of the posts on this thread are directed to the OP. If you hadn't gotten so upset, I have no doubt that it would have remained that way. Sheesh.

A checked out the posts on Trip Advisor regarding WL and almost all of them were complementary and not negative. A few were negative, but I'm gonna bet those people are negative all the time.

We have stayed at the WL twice with our kids and loved it both times. It is a great resort. Easy access to MK and great rooms as well.

As long as our budget allows it, we will never stay anywhere else with our kids.

That being said, my wife and I are staying at the Beach Club Resort in November. We are running the Wine & Dine Half Marathon. Beach Club is an official race resort, and we can walk back to our room after the race, which ultimately made the decision for us. I hope I will not be disappointed.

This was an excellent question. I did arrive last December at a Filthy room at POFQ. Define filthy: Urine around the toilet seat in all areas, urine smell atrocious in the room, uncleaned sinks, curtains off the pole, clocks malfunctioning etc. We did go through usual courses to fix this, but it was a shock to me.

My suggestion is that you immediately complain to the manager and get your room switched. Mousekeepers at Disney are all different and some are quite poor, others good. I doubt that there is much quality control at Disney in other words spot checking. Deluxe to value all the same - dependent on how much mousekeepers want their tip!

Hey OP - Filthy? No. In need of a rehab? Yes. We stayed in September and while the location and grounds were lovely, the rooms needed a little TLC. Luckily, they are getting just that this year! I told myself I wouldn't stay there again because I didn't love the rooms, but maybe the pictures of the new rooms will sway me (who doesnt love a boat to the MK?) :goodvibes

agree Karabee...the rooms do need a refurb and the jacuzzi by the small pool needs replacing. Our last two trips it was down for work the entire visit. Such a bummer.....

We stayed there Nov. 2011, I think we were on the 5th floor. Overall the WL is beautiful. I think the rooms do need some tlc, the bathroom especially. You can see the age of the tubs, the caulking has been worn down and replaced repeatedly, the tub didn't look all sparkly white anymore. The drain overflow tab had yucky stuff growing in it. Our hand soap was already out in the dish. There was a long black hair in my bed, I have no explanation for that.

I prefer the rooms at AKL.

To defend the question, I was sort of grossed out by the CBR rooms. my expectations are high as I won't take a bath in a hotel and when I use the bathroom at night, I put my flip flops on as I am sceaved out by carpet in hotel rooms. Anyway, there were stains on the curtains and the rug and the bed rails for my daughter were all stained and ripped. I would call that filthy.
We are going to WL and I hope its better!

Never stayed there before, but I am in September. To be honest- I appreciate you asking this question! I am a clean/ germaphobe freak! I think that for anyone to think this is a ridculous question, is silly. Hey- when you're paying around $300+ a night for a hotel room, it better be clean! Doing research before hand is great, everyone should simply answer, no need to be offended or snooty. :snooty:

People very seldom go to review sites and post positive reviews. You can look for reviews on every single resort in WDW and you will see that they are ...dirty, full of bedbugs, never cleaned, badly maintained, old furniture, etc. I have yet to see a preponderance of good reviews there.

So, with that being said...no, WL is not dirty. But, it is dark. That is the theming of the resort. I have stayed at a lot of the WDW resorts....and when I stayed at VWL, I found it wasn't to my liking. I just like something a bit brighter, but that is my taste..it doesn't make it bad. The vast majority of people that stay there love it there.
And if you're moving from a resort like GF, BC, or BW, over to WL?? Yep, it's going to be a huge difference. WL is all about the dark wood, western feel, with tin type lighting fixtures, red paint and dark woodwork. It's much more rustic as well. SO, if you don't like rustic and country plaid fabrics, you aren't going to be happy at WL.
But it is clean!!!!!
