Wilderness Lodge Question

I just called to book my first trip since joining DVC. We will be staying at the Wildreness Lodge the third week in April. I have a 6 year old son and a son who will turn 4 while we are there. Are there any special things you like about WLV that you can share with me? Thanks!

Be sure that you check the schedule of activities that you get when you check in. There are things like "cookie decorating" offered for kids and adults alike. (free)

Check out the Iron Spike room at the VWL, also look at all the carved animals in the rotunda of the villas (and see if you can find the Hidden Mickeys).

If you walk the path over to Ft Wilderness early in the morning or around dusk, you can often see deer along the path.

As mentioned, you can get a Hidden Mickey list from Guest Services that provides clues on finding many HM's throughout WL and VWL.

And they may still have the duck races in the afternoon...definitely a fun activity for children up to tweenager age.

See if you can find all of the animal tracks embedded in the concrete paths.

Rent a surrey to take the family around the resort and down to Fort Wilderness if you feel adventuresome. If you do go to FW, they have a petting area for animals.

And of course, you must eat at least once at Whispering Canyon at WL. It can be a bit rambunctious, but always a lot of fun. Don't forget to ask for ketchup!

Although it's overpriced (big shocker), our family absolutely loved renting a boat and cruising the lake, including spending some time just floating out in front of Magic Kingdom. It was well worth it. The whole wilderness lodge resort is fantastic. My boys also loved the nature hike and saw wild deer crossing the trail.

After you check-in, head over to the Concierge desk and see if there's an opening for Flag Family while you're staying there.

And make sure you head down to the beach one night to watch the Electrical Water Pageant.
