We were supposed to go to Disney in June (dd's 6th bday). That of course was cancelled, and we were staying at the cabins. We have not been in 6 years. We rescheduled for next June. This wiill be the last trip for a while, so we are staying on property(have a lot in Disney gift cards to cover costs.) Reservation is set for cabins 6/22-29.

We are a family of 5 - Myself DW, DS14, DS11, DD6

Just looked on Disney site (playing around) and saw that the cabins are $445 a night. (I knew that). However, Wilderness Lodge Deluxe Studios are $457. Would love some advise. I am torn.

We are planning 5 park days for family & 2 rest days. (Last Park day wont return to hotel.)

Here are my thoughts. Any advise, experiences and ideas that you have that could help my family plan would be appreciated.

Pros for Cabins -
- Lots of Outdoor Space. Kids can play and we can sit on deck. No crampness. Also, multiple rooms for space in cabin.
- Full Kitchen. We have a couple of special Disney meal reservations in mind, but not getting dining plan (unless free) and plan on eating our own food a lot
- Less hotel Feel.

Cons For Cabins -
A LONG walk or LARGE amount time time taking buses to get to boats for MK
Pools are nothing special
Less Luxury

Pros for Wilderness Lodge
- Luxurious Feel
- Great Pools
- Short Walk to Boats for MK

Cons for Wilderness Lodge
- Single Room for Family of Five
- Must Work around only having microwave, small fridge, and toaster
- Less Privacy and Space for family and kids.

That is a tough one. Wilderness Lodge is my favorite on Disney property. It has restaurants, bus and boat to parks, is comfortable and spectacular. But we stayed in a cabin a few years ago and loved that. It was really nice to not be connected to another room or building so was nice and quiet. The area was very peaceful and beautiful. The extra space was nice though there were only four of us we still could spread out. We had a car so travel was not an issue. We have always had a car at WDW and I think I would be perturbed at the travel process from the cabins to the parks or anywhere. Having a kitchen is really nice but nobody wanted to cook on vacation.

I think you've already spelled out the pros and cons and only you know what your family values in terms of a room and resort. If staying at the Fort, you could consider renting a golf cart to make getting to the boat dock easier. For me, it would really come down to how comfortable you think two of your kids will be sharing a double sleeper sofa at BRV. Personally, I would watch to see if a garden wing room opens up at CR for your dates. They are the cheapest rooms available on the monorail and would give you far more space than a BRV studio plus a better located resort.

You can’t beat the theming at WL and without a car or (expensive) golf cart rental, FW is a pain to get around. If you won’t be in the room much I’d go with WL. If your kids balk at sharing a bed then it’d have to be FW.

Five people in a Boulder Ridge Villa studio wlll be tight. If you are booking Copper Creek Villas studio, you'll need a two bedroom because the studio and one bedroom are hard fours, not five. Check into a two bedroom villa for the extra space. If you really want nice, try the Cascade Cabins at Copper Creek.

We stayed in the cabins a few years ago just for 2 nights before checking into our DVC resort. It was after the most recent remodel and the cabin was charming. However, there were 4 adults and 2 kids and it was very crowded. The photos make it look more spacious than it really is but it would be more room than a studio. Our grandkids (grade school) had a heck of a time fitting in the bunkbeds.

We are dvc and have stayed in the studios at wl. Very nice. However, two years ago we did a cash stay in the cabins and it was one of the most magical, memory inducing trips of our lives. And that’s saying something given we have 100+ trips to WDW. Stay in the cabins. They are truly an experience. Fort Wilderness is a special place.

PS. Pack a table cloth for the picnic table. Just grab a vinyl one from the dollar store. Also pick up a dollar store outdoor mat to wipe your feet before coming into the cabin. Get a golf cart!

Thank you for the suggestions. We will def have to get the items for the cabin. We settled on the cabins over the similar priced deluxe studio at WL. The space and privacy was too good to not choose.

unfortuna, the golf carts are a no go for us due to cost. However, we are driving, so we will be able to drive where we need easily. Likely to drive to parks instead of using boats or buses, will need to walk to pools, but it’s all good.

You will have a wonderful time! My kids want to return. Take in the campfire. Eat at P & J Southern takeout. Roast marshmallows. Wish I was there now!
