Wilderness Lodge lovers - help!!

I am the least outdoorsy person you will ever meet. Camping? No WAY!!!!Yet I absalutely adore the Wl. It transports me to to another place in time. I feel like I could tag along with Lewis and Clark! Go hunting with Teddy Roosevelt or ride the great outdoors with the Magnificent Seven!

The entire resort is breathtaking. There is so much to see and do there. Get into the spirit, you'll love it. :cheer2:
I would agree

We really like WL, so much so that when we stayed there for a long weekend a couple years ago, we only visited one park (AK), and spent the rest of the time exploring the lodge and FW. It escapes me how you can right in the middle of the tropics (Fla was, after all, a little piece of Africa a couple of millenia ago) and feel like you're in the great NW.

:sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

My wife and I were on our honeymoon staying off property at the recommendation of out travel agent (Gasp! off property! and does anyone remember travel agents)

We had run ragged through the parks for many consecutive days, discussing our dislike of our I-4 Special, and decided to resort hop to find somewhere to stay on our first anniversary. I forget the order we went in, but I know that the Wilderness Lodge was the last place we went. As soon as we pulled up, we had great expectations. They were exceeded upon entering the lobby. Since then, we have travelled through some of the finest National Park lodges (Ahwahnee in Yosemite, for example) and I can say that Disney hit the feeling you get 100%. You do not need to be an outdoorsman to love this property.

Now it's been a while since I've been there, but three things to ask for if they still do them:

1.) Hidden Mickey hunt.

2.) Hotel tour. The smokehouse and the view from the roof are awesome.

3.) Rent a boat/bike and go for a ride. You can easily ride a surrey bike to the Campgrounds or buzz about from the end of the dock in a water sprite.

I can not understand how anyone could not love this place.

Steve

P.S. Going to Disney in two weeks and staying at the WL... :cool1:

We are booked for 5 nights lagoon view at Grand Floridian. I always wanted to stay on the monorail. Now I am wondering if the WL would be a better choice. We can get the deluxe room, lodge view with the sep. sitting area for the same amount. The extra room would let the kids (4&6) have a little more space. Any suggestions? Any of you stay at both GF and WL?

I am not a camping outdoor person and when I stayed at the lodge I absolutely loved it. We stayed at the lodge and the beach club this summer.

The lodge has a peaceful about it and very relaxing --- go for it!! I am sure you will fall in love with the place

Ohhhhh maaaaaan. This is my absolute FAVORITE RESORT EVER. EVER. EVER EVER EVER!
Okay, when I was going, I felt the exact same about you. The Boardwalk was booked as was the Beach Club. So we had Old Key West or the Wilderness Lodge, we chose the Wilderness Lodge. I thought, "Ugh, this place looks so dim and uninviting. The furniture looks like it came from 'The Shining'" Well let me tell YOU that you must see it in person to actually understand what I mean when I say that this hotel beats out all the others. The lobby was enormous, and it's fun to go around and explore.

I'm sure you will love it. I am SURE of it.

(why am I capitolizing so many words???)

I would like to challange you for that crown! :)

LOL to all of you. I can't go a day without showering and we were up in the mts. No bathrooms, showers, no nothing. :earseek: I went camping and took a "bath" in a stream somewhere in God's country in NH. (Wow that was 22 years ago this weekend.) It was so flipping cold I wore sweatpants and a sweatshirt to bathe in. DH has not taken me camping since, lol. He kept trying to get me back to the mts. to propose and I kept finding some excuse not to go. Finally proposed to me prior to dropping me off to see my Gramps. :teeth:

We had the perfect location for our room. We had requested a one bedroom near the elevator and a quiet pool view, and that is just what we got. We were right over the entrance to Sturdy Branches health club. The location was perfect. I could sit on the balcony and watch DH and kids at the quiet pool. I love the lodge decor anyway, and the lobby of the VWL is great. I love all the carved animals in the lobby, the fireplace, and rocking chairs everywhere. We stayed at the BC for the weekend after 5 nights at VWL, and except for the pool, I really wished we had just tried to move to the WL instead (to save those weekend points). We loved the bike ride to FW too.

This summer DS13 & I were at WDW for 2 wks - 8nights VWL and 6nights BCV.
DS wants to return to BCV next summer because of Stormalong Bay so its in the plans.
I love the WL lobby and everything being more compact so I booked 5nights at VWL for March.
