I never hear anything about the wilderness cabins.....they look pretty cute,,,I love the wilderness lodge and they remind me of them....anyone ever stay there ? The bus to the lodge went through there a couple of times at night and it looked kinda quiet. Also can you ride the horses there??? thanks

We just got back, we loved the cabins! It is so quiet and peaceful, a nice break after a busy day at the parks. The only drawback we felt was the transportation, we were quite far from a bus stop and with 2 buses to catch, it got to be a long wait sometimes. If you can budget in a golf cart to rent or if you have your own vehicle, it would be great. The cabins are really cute, very homey and so nice to have a seperate room for the kids.

I think the cabins are one of disney's least known best values.

But yes, you should rent a car if staying there.

We thought that the cabins were the best deal around!!
Plenty of room(3 kids) and we sometimes got tired of always
going out to eat, so we'd grill a steak on our private deck
with grill! The grounds are absolutely Beautiful! The only thing
that they could improve on...Theming their pools...or better
yet, opening River Country! That would be so cool!! We would
go to the water parks when we wanted to swim, because the
pools at Ft. Wilderness were'nt any different from home.
We're going to try something different this time only because
I got an AP rate at the POLY and AKL concierge! P.S. I do
recommend renting a car!!! With the codes I used, the golf
carts were more expensive than the minivan we rented!!

Its been a few years since we stayed at the Cabins, with our situation they worked out pretty good. With 2 kids, my wife and I and my mom they gave us the space, nap room and kitchen. They are manufactured housing made to look like cabins, and they have a bit of a rustic feeling in them. The downside we found was getting around. I hope this has changed for the better, but we found the internal buses didn't meet our schedule and the buses were to few and far between. We wound up renting a golf cart and taking the launch to the Contemporary or directly to MK. The cost of the golf cart quickly made me think if the Cabins were such a value after all. After staying at Coronado Springs and seeing the great pools, it makes me wish that FW had something on that par. All that said we enjoyed our stay and are glad we experienced the Cabins.

My brother and his family stayed in one in May and they said they loved it better than the GF!! I myself have never stayed in one though:blush:

We stayed in a cabin last Nov. and LOVED them. .:lovestruc :lovestruc Perfect size and great value. Only complaint was that they are a bit removed from the rest of Disney. And at the time they had a screwy bus system, but we had a car so that did not effect us

We stayed in the cabins in April. It was me, my DF, his sister and her son and daughter. It was wonderful. The kids didn't care that the pool didn't have a theme they thought it was so cool. They loved the campfire and the petting zoo. The boat ride to the Magic Kingdom took awhile because it stops at the Wilderness Lodge. I would stay there again in a second.

And after reading these last few posts, it's reassured me quite a bit about my choice of ressies. I'll be driving from NC so we'll have a car handy so we won't have to rely on Disney transport- well, except for the monorail. I suspect my son would never forgive me if I neglected to pencil in at least one ride on the monorail.

I think the only thing that could persuade me to change from a cabin would be if I was the lucky recipient of one of those infamous discount postcards offering up an irresistible deal on another resort....

Well, not exactly. You can't drive around Fort Wilderness, that's why people rent the golf carts. If you want to take the launch to MK you have to take the internal bus to get to the marina. Same goes for Pioneer Hall. You can't park your car there.

You can drive in and out of FW but not within the resort itself. The golf carts are ~$40 and you have to give them your credit card # in case you dont pick it up. You will get charged if that is case (at least that is what they tell me). You can take the boat to MK but we drove to the TTC and took the monorail to MK and EPCOT and my girls got to "copilot" almost everytime!

We stayed there on a short "extra" trip in July. We loved the cabins, but hated the transportation. And we always have a car. The transportation and the pools (my family expects slides and hot tubs) will probably ensure that we choose somewhere else in the future. I wouldn't pay $40 for a golf cart b/c that much per day would usually be enough to upgrade to a deluxe.

We love FW & the cabins. We have never really had an issue with the transportation. We always rent a car so we would drive to all the parks, with the exception of the MK. In that case we would take the internal bus to Pioneer Hall & then board the boat to the MK.

You can drive your car throughout FW, you just can't park it at Pioneer Hall - their main area for restaurants & the boat launch. You can drive it & park it for a short length of time at the Meadow's Trading Post.

Maybe we will be neighbors! :wave2:

We will be there from Jan. 31 - Feb. 5th. Look for the outrageously huge teal green 15 passenger van and the stressed couple with 5 small kids under 9. We are soooo looking forward to FW!

I'll keep my eyes out for you and your family. As for us, I'll be driving a green Ford Taurus with a Carolina Hurricanes window decal on it. It will be either just myself and my son, or quite possibly my us, my mom, my sister and her toddler son with the curly locks and beautiful blue eyes.

I am so excited about this trip!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

My family loves the cabins too. We spent Christmas 2001 there and had an absolutely wonderful time.

Golf carts, though expensive, are great because you can park them almost anywhere within the resort. Cars are nice if you like to drive to the parks. The busses are ok with older kids, but a pain if you have a stroller because you have to fold/unfold them twice.

Not understanding the transportation there was a real problem our first night. Check in took forever (something I've only experienced at Disney hotels) and we got to our cabin around 9 PM, starving! We wanted something cooked for us and couldn't figure out how get to Pioneer hall. The transportation map they give you cuts off part of one route, making it difficult to tell that it goes all the way to pioneer hall. I thought we had to get back to the check in area to get a bus up there!

Anyway, after a long walk and a long bus ride, we made it the food, just as they were closing. The wonderful manager made sure we got fed anyway. :) Best pizza I've ever had!

The cabins are wonderful, but don't arrive hungry!

We have stayed in the Fort Wilderness cabins and we loved it! That is about the only kind of camping I will agree to...meaning it was far from "roughing it". I think it would not be fun, however, if it was raining during your stay as you have to catch the bus down the street instead of outside your resort. The pool is pretty standard and our kids prefer AKL or WL pools. The highlight for us was the marshmellow roasts that were oh so convenient when Disney gave us "s'more fixin's" in a convenient little package complete with wet wipes. We loved the old movies and campfires at the campground. I say it is a great value if you like to make your own food and you try to pick a time that usually has good weather.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE INFO.....THE CABINS SOUND GREAT....MY VERY FAVORITE RESORT IS WILDERNESS LODGE SO I WILL PROBABLY LOVE IT.....IT IS ACTUALY CHEAPER TO GET THREE ROOMS AT CSR......BUT PROBABLY MORE FUN IN ONE CABIN. IS THERE A TV IN THE BEDROOM OR JUST THE LIVING ROOM?THAT IS PATHETIC I KNOW BUT I CAN'T SLEEP WITHOUT THE TV.......I WILL HAVE NO CAR AND AM GOING WITH MY HUSBAND MY 10 YR OLD DAUGHTER, MY MOM AND DAD...MY 22 YR OLD SON WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND AND ONE OF THEIR FRIENDS....CAN YOU RIDE THE HORSES THERE??? I WILL LOOK FOR YOU GUYS AS MY 10 YR OLD IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH.............SEE YA

There were TVs in the bedroom and living room and a VCR in the living room when we went. Sounds like a lot of adults for a cabin to me, I hope you all like being close
