:dumbo: Hello all. New here. Looks like this is the place to be when you are excited about a trip to the happiest place on earth.

I have a question.

We are planning our vacation to DisneyWorld at the beginning of February and we are staying at the Disney Wilderness Cabins. I am a little worried. Each time I have gone to DW, we always stayed at the Contemp or Wilderness Lodge. I am in love and spoiled. Man, i love it. This time, we are taking our two kids, my mother, and a nanny. Looks like the Cabins is where WD pointed us to. My concern is my 2 1/2 year old son is Autistic. Back in April we went to Disneyland and he didn't do so well, and spent most of his time at the hotel there. My concern with the cabins is how hard is it to get to and from your cabin? I have been told they offer some type of transportation but I guess I am not quite understanding it. Any suggestions or information you can provide would be helpful? Any one else traveling with children with Autism?

Thanks!

Helen

The transportation to Fort Wilderness is by bus from everwhere except Mk and you can go by boat to and from there. Once you get to FW they have internal buses that go to the cabins. Some people dont like the buses but to us its ok. as you may know, depending on the time of year the buses can get pretty well packed and this may cause you a problem. If you drive you can park your car at the Cabin or a rental car might be good.

Golf carts are available for $44 per day. Check out the first page of the link in my signature for info about the cabins and bus system. We just got back, and really enjoyed our stay!

Thank you for the information. We are flying to Disney, and our budget is already popping, so I don't know if renting a golf cart will be an option for us this time. I know you can take the monorail to MK and then take a boat to the cabins, we would just have to make sure we were back early enough to do that.

I am wondering if i should call disney and change our location. We usually try to stay somewhere that is easy on the transportation because of my son. If he is having a good day, then it should be fine. But if he is tired or having a meltdown, waiting on this last bus may be the deal breaker.

Thanks for getting back to me

Helen

It sounds to me you need to stay at the Poly or CR instead. The travel time is much less from MK then FW. Another option would be OKW or SSR due to the number of people.

Try pricing the new family suites. You may even want to consider Downtown Disney, the price may drop enough to allow you to rent a car and bypass buses altogether. Good Luck!
