Wild Ferry Crossing Video

My sister tried to send me the same video earlier this morning. I'm surprised they let it cross.

My husband and I took the ferry to Newfoundland just about exactly 13 years ago. We got stuck at the dock overnight and the next day when we went to Port Aux Basques the crew gave me a prize for not throwing up (I was 5 months pregnant)

Is this the same one that takes about seven hours? I remember taking a ferry to Newfoundland once and it was approx seven hours long and people were throwing up everywhere. I remember this really old salt on board who had a chunk of wood and during the voyage he carved a link chain out of that piece of wood with a jacknife. I believe I was 9 years old at the time and I remember taking it again when I was 15. My Grandparents lived in Tracadie New Brunswick so I got to visit the east coast quite a few times as a kid. I honestly don't believe it was as bad as that though:eek:

DH got sent this link...we've uploaded it to youtube.
It was taken from Louisburg on Cape breton Island last week.
It's the ferry Caribou crossing to Newfoundland.

Gravol, anyone?

That is not the Newfoundland ferry, it was described as that originally but it is actually a boat actually sailing in New Zealand. Trust me, my wife works on the Marine Atlantic ferries, and that boat is definitely not one of the 4 they have.

Then I stand corrected.

Would definitely not want to be a passenger on it, regardless!

OMG!!!! I've been on a few rough boat rides, but... yikes!!!

I can't confirm if it's from New Zealand, but a quick visit to Marine Atlantic's website shows that it is not one of their ships. The Caribou has twin stacks by the way.

Yup....might be a bad place to be on board but it most definitely is not the Ferry to Newfoundland. At least not being filmed from Louisburg...if that was the case it would have already seriously drifted to the east, then to the south...then to the west.....still my first thought was I hope there'e no CARS on that thing! batten down the hatches!

This video was also shown on Canada AM yesterday morning where they originally said it was taken from the east coast. After a while, they came back and corrected themselves saying it was in fact from New Zeland. Apparently a lot of people had seen it and were calling to cancel their trips to Nfld. Too funny!

Imagine, we can get a major Canadian network, repeating stories without doing basic research. A quick visit to the Marine Atlantic's website showed that ship was not one of their's. You would like to think the networks would do a little research before running a story. I know this is just a small story, but it does make one wonder about the research they have done for larger stories.

It is bad enough that the national media didn't check their facts - BUT it is even worse when the local NL station - NTV - didn't check their facts or recognzie that it is not a Marine Atlantic Ferry. I found it really funny.

Leave it to CTV (NTV is owned by CTV who broadcasts Canada AM every morning)!!!

Take it from me, that video caused a lot of trouble for travellers. I work at Marine Atlantic, you wouldn't believe the calls we recieved. I don't blame them I would be worried as well. :sad2:
I can't believe they would not check the story out before hand.
