Anyone done this ?
My daughter bought us this experience for Christmas and those rope bridges are keeping me awake at night ...is there an option?
Please?
Like really please?

It's not nearly as scary as it looks. You are on a harness, there are gaps between some of the boards to look like it's falling apart but the planks are very secure and there is a big net right underneath it. They do not rush you across - you can take your time. DH even stopped for a bit in the middle to take pictures of the alligators (we got a great picture of him taking a picture - this picture represents all of my vacations with him glued behind a lens). There's absolutely no real danger and it takes about 5 minutes out of a several hour tour. One that I highly recommend and would totally repeat.

I'm afraid of heights and it wasn't terrible. Some of the planks were a little further apart than I was entirely comfortable with, but I made it just fine. Even if you completely hate it, the rest of the tour is worth sticking it out!

No. No option if you choose to do the walking part of the tour. It’s not that bad. You wear a harness and are linked to an overhead cable. They haven’t lost anyone yet :-)

Just wondering-your reply makes me think that the walking part of the tour is optional. Is there an alternative some people choose? The reason I ask is that walking isn't in my skill set, and I always thought I couldn't do the Wild Africa Trek. Am I mistaken?

I “think” (pretty sure) I have read that their is a handicap option available. I “think” that enables one to join the tour for the riding portion only. :-). I hope someone else can chime in who may know.

I have a problem with heights but I had no problem on the bridge. For me, the harness really makes me feel securely attached and while the boards look bad, as soon as you step on them you can tell you are able to step firmly. You can see the netting under you the entire way. There is a tiny bit of a spring to the bridge but again, it doesn't feel like you are going to fall through. It is well worth the possible moments of any discomfort that you may feel in relation to the entire tour. We loved it the first time we did it so brought our kids to do it again. I'd love to do it again on another trip.

I’m scared of heights and did fine. I concentrated on the planks and making sure my feet were on them so it helped me not focus beyond that. It was a really cool experience. My husband and I both enjoyed it. When I was on the bridge my parents actually rode by on a safari vehicle and yelled to me and I was able to wave to them. Perfect timing!

I'm scared of heights and am not feeling that open side on the bridge ..

Well it’s not open, you have the rope bridge sides on either side and then the planks underneath. And like PP said, they are very secure-no wiggling or anything when you are walking. They space people out so there are only 2 guests on the bridge at any time so you don’t have to worry about being rushed or dealing with any bouncing. The guides are also all excellent, so if you are worried, they will be happy to help you-maybe even put you last so the guide can walk right behind you.

The tour itself was amazing! Just so many wonderful moments and stories you get to hear. A hippo swam/walked underneath me as I was walking across the bridge, which was so cool and I don’t think I’ll ever forget! I’m scared of heights-going up a few steps on a ladder makes me super nervous, but it was wonderful. I think there is so much to see as you are going across the bridges you forget about it a bit.

I’d you are dead set against it, one thing you can consider is the sunset safari. I think that is just the savanna part without any rope bridges. But then you miss the hippo area which is one of the best parts!

I saw a video where for ‘effect’ the rope/ mesh sides intermittently are frayed or torn away leaving open sides in some spots.

Here are some of my photos from on the bridge. You can see where they have frayed the mesh, there are still support wires. For the one with my foot-that wire shown is just the bottom one. They have 2 intermediate ones plus the main handrail.

I have to be honest, I am a gigantic scaredy-cat and I found the bridges to be the opposite of thrilling. They take safety SO seriously and the bridges themselves feel very secure as you cross. They don't wobble or shake or anything like that.

Also, the tour was amazing. One of my favorite things I've ever done at Disney. I highly recommend you try it if it is at all possible for you :)

There is definitely an accessible version of this tour. Here is a link to my report on the accessible Wild Africa Trek. https://www.disboards.com/threads/w...ild-africa-trek-review.3253044/#post-51016986
