I am looking to book this for our trip next June. Does anyone recall what times were available for this? Also, I have read that it is cheaper to do it early afternoon. With FL and it's predicted afternoon showers in the summer, is this a rain or shine activity?

As far as bookings go, is this just done over the phone? 180 days out?

We just did it during our October trip of this year. It was one of the best things I've done - definitely the best at Disney. During October the last tour was at 2:30 in the afternoon. We did one at 12:30. We were told it is rain or shine. They will not go out in extreme lightning but if it's just rain showers, you will go out. Booking is done over the phone, but I don't believe they post times until about 30 days out. If you look for the first week of January now, there are no times listed.

The 3 hours flew by! We had a blast.

We also just did this in October and did a 12:30 trek (wonder if we were on the same trek?! We did it on 10/26). Anyway, I would echo these comments. we were a group of 4 adults and we all felt it was the best "extra magic" thing we've done at Disney (and we've done quite a few different things). I will also add that since we go quite frequently and could do it on any trip, I decided to wait til last minute to book so I could know what the weather would be. Personally, I would be bummed to have it be torrential rain, or horribly hot and humid, so took a chance and it worked out. I actually booked it just the day before.

How far out did you book? My bf just found out that as a CM, he can get it half off but can only book it two weeks out. I'm wondering if it fills up quickly?! Luckily it's a 9 night trip so we have some wiggle room but being the planner I am, I like to have things like FP set.

See my reply....booked for a group of 4 the day before :)

I went with a CM in May, we did a 12:30, booked about 2 weeks out. Amazing experience! I'd guess our group total was about 10 or 11. You get pictures to download, I counted 199! Everyone on the trek plus animal pictures. They also send you some "stock" photos.

We did this in August 2014, and it rained fairly hard for the second half of our tour. It was actually quite refreshing, as we did the afternoon time, and it was in the 90s with high humidity. We loved it and would highly recommend it.

Hi,
You do have to book over the phone but I have seen the times posted on the website. I will be doing it Tues Feb 28. I will be doing a trip report CANT WAIT!!!!! I understand later in the day is cheaper than morning and they sometimes have offers. There is a special number to call for this. Yes to 180 days out...as first you can book they gave me the impression they do not book up that far out so not a big rush unless you only have one time you want. I wanted first of the day for cool temps so I went with that.

We did it in May, on a hot day. It was tolerable though. (they give water breaks and cool washcloths.) I think it is worth going later for the discount, and probably smaller number of people on the tour than earlier.

Double check the two weeks thing, my DD was a CM when she booked it in 2014 and was able to book about a month out. She had to call in to do it and got the big discount.

Because it was during the late summer/fall special deal for afternoon tours, she did that and they took the additional discount off.

I'm looking at your photo, and see your kids. Just in case it comes into play there is a minimum age and height, and weight limits.

They LOVED it!

The Hub page currently says "Call (phone number) to book within two weeks of the trek" :thumbsup2

It would make sense with it limited to wait until closer to offer that big discount. Maybe because she was doing late September, with the heat and a less popular time there was more leeway.

That's an old photo. Kids will be 14, 12 and 9 in June. I just like looking at the pic and remembering how little they once were! Hahaha

I just booked this for January. I got the DVC discount of 15% which is offered only for the afternoon tours. They told me Visa discount available as well only for afternoon. Booked the last tour at 2:30pm. Can't wait!

We just completed Wild Africa Trek on Dec 28, and there were 11 people on the tour with two tour guides. It was great up until lunch, but afterwards it was very rushed. I think having 11 people on the tour slowed things down and we ended up with a lot of transition time. The food was fantastic and we got lots of great pictures. The tour guides were very nice but you could tell they were overwhelmed with so many of us.

Hoping that that was holiday busy! Im doing first trek feb 28. Cant wait!

We did WAT last April and it was awesome!! Probably our favorite thing we ever did. Our tour was at 9:30.

We did this in December at the 9:30 AM time slot. On that day, they were pretty full through about 2PM, but walk-ups could still sign up for 2:30.

My advice is - go on this! It is my favorite thing we ever did at Disney. The price seems outrageous, but after we did it it seemed like a bargain. We are going to do it again when my grandson gets a little older.

Another tip: don't bring a camera. The cast members have really good SLR cameras, and you will get all the pictures they take. They are very careful to get pictures (both posed and candid) of each party at each major portion of the trek.

You asked what times were available. On the day we went, times were available starting at 8AM every 45 minutes. Interestingly, the park did not open until 9AM, so the people who started at 8AM and 8:45 are met outside by a cast member and brought inside. We booked about 6 months out.
For your dates, you can see the times at this web page, but you have to call in to make the reservation. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/animal-kingdom/wild-africa-trek/
