If you've done the 8am Trek, did you have to take a cab to get there in time? I'm thinking of doing this during Extra Magic am hours at AK, but even still, the first resort bus wouldn't leave until 7 am.

Was your tour a solid three hours?

Would you recommend doing this to someone (a child) who has never been to Animal Kingdom before ... which would be 3 hours that they could be exploring the park?

We took a cab for our 8AM tour. We were held at the parking lot/entrance for a few minutes until the gates opened.
Our tour was more than 3 hours by a few minutes
How old is the child you are asking about? I don't think I would take a young child on the tour

I took 9 and 10 year old boys on this a couple of years ago, and they both loved it. And one of the two has ADD and isn't into animals...I was worried, but there was enough adventure aspects and variety to keep him happy while his animal-loving brother was in heaven.

We cabbed it -- picked an early morning slot to beat the heat

I think an 11-year-old boy would love it. Very adventurous. I felt like Indiana Jones crossing the rope bridges over the crocodile pools. He can ask questions of the guides too.

If you do the tour you won't need to ride the regular Safari, meaning you free up a FP to ride other attractions with shorter waits.

We did an afternoon tour on a slow day and had accomplished everything else we wanted to do by the 2:30 tour.

I can't say enough good things about this amazing tour. I think the only complaint I have ever, ever heard was the price, but I feel you get so much (including food) for that fee.

I'm thinking of doing this with my 10 and 12 year old this December. I'm just curious - what kind of food did they give the kids for the snack? I assume it is different than what they give the adults. My daughter has a tree nut allergy (which I'm sure they would accommodate), but just curious.

We took a cab. Do make sure you pay attention to the driving. Our cab driver took us in a circle & we had to tell him something. Beware!

When we went on WT everyone received the same food, the adults and kids. If your child has an allergy you can put that in the reservation. And I would also remind the CMs at the tour when you get there.

We are doing this in Dec. And staying at AKL. Hadn't thought about a cab.
I thought I'd ask at the desk what they recommend. (seems to me that is what they are there for)

I have to say this trek was awesome! The guides were great. The info and photo opportunities were wonderful. The food was pretty good too. Since it was cold (low 60's) on our day they had hot chocolate and tea as well as a small carafe of jungle juice.
Even with the cold we saw lots of animals. The baby gorillas weren’t out, and didn’t see the rhinos but saw lots of other beauties.
Well worth it.

Hi, if you inform them of the allergy at time of booking they bring out a meal in a labelled tin.
At 10 and 12 the food would probably be the same as the adults. Even my 8 year old got more or less the same snack it was interesting but very nice!

My dd's 8 and 14 loved this tour, however it spoils you for the regular safari!

I don't eat seafood and DH is allergic to sunflower seeds.
He did not get the yogurt with granola - I forgot what he got. And I didn't get the salmon roll. I found it filling enough. If your kids are pickey tho they may not like everything.

(Also ours was considered 'breakfast')
let's see. we had yogurt w/ granola
a mix of fruits - blueberry, mellon, mango...
dried apricots w some sort of semi-soft cheese cubes
4 mini puffy pitas
meat - ummm drat, can't think of the name; must be post D memory loss - that really thin italian ham
I had turkey instead of the salmon rolled with a bread thing.
and date nut cake.
