Wild Africa Trek or Savor the Savannah?

We have never done any tours/extras and I'd like to try one on our next trip. I have it narrowed down to these two and think I personally would enjoy Savor the Savannah more, but Wild Africa Trek would probably be better for a 14 year old and 11 year old, correct? Basically I am looking for an "special" experience and more time with the animals than you get on the regular safari ride. Thanks for helping to convince me, one way or the other!

I have not done the Savannah, but I have done the Wild Africa. It was fantastic. The guides are very informative. From what I have read of the savanna, it sounds like you get a similar tour except you are not going "backstage" as much going to the hippo pool and the suspension bridge over the alligators which requires you to wear a harness to get close to the edge. The Wild Africa has the same type vehicle taking you off the trail to stop to see and photograph the animals, you get a snack that is more like a meal minus the alcohol at the boma, the special gift is a CD or download of all the pictures taken on the tour and you get to select which animal you want a portion of your tour price to support. The Africa tour is around three hours. Not sure the time for the Savannah?

Thanks so much. The harness part appeals less to me - relaxing on the savannah with some wine does - but I'm pretty sure my kids would prefer the trek.

We did the trek, I was terrified on the suspended bridge. I would rather do the Savannah.

Oh, I am pretty afraid of heights. That might seal the deal for me - I can book Savor The Savannah and not tell my kids that Wild Trek was an option!

We did the Wild Trek last week and loved it, other than diving in the Living Seas it was our favorite extra we have ever done. My son (adult) is uncomfortable on heights but he loved the bridge. We haven't done the Savor yet but will be doing the Trek again in the future.

Yah, not for you then. There are a few rope bridges you may not like.

We have done - and loved - both tours. You get most of the Savor the Savanna experience on the Wild Africa Trek (or did a few years ago, anyway). After the "harness" part of the Trek, you board a truck and go onto the savanna just like StS. You also have a meal in the Boma. Two members of my family aren't fans of heights, but both were fine on the bridges. If you have anyone with mobility issues, I'd go with StS. Otherwise, I'd go with the Trek.

I am very scared of heights and was really worried about the rope bridges. I went next to the last with my husband following me. That way I could take my time. Once I placed my hands on the ropes you could tell just how sturdy and safe it was. Plus you are harnessed in. I did fine!

I was just going to note a similar experience. My wife is not good with heights, but the "rope bridge" is not what you might think. It "looks" like an unsteady thing you'd find in the wild. In truth, it is very secure. And, as Mindeola said above, you are in a harness. There is no way you could fall, and you would never feel insecure. My wife was fine once she got a few steps in and realized the bridge (as you would expect with Disney) is very safe and stable. We both loved the Trek and would absolutely do it again. We have not done the Savannah one, so I can't comment on which would be preferable. I just would not want you to miss the Trek if the bridge is your main issue.

I get very dizzy up high. I can’t even look out on a balcony due to being so afraid of falling. But last year my 14 year old nephew begged me. I gave in and WOW! It was the best tour I have ever done at Disney. You are harnessed in. I am quite fluffy and the harness never bothered me. The rope bridge is so sturdy I laughed at myself for being afraid. I never looked down and went slow. They do stop you to take your picture and again I felt so safe and wasn’t dizzy. After the bridges the harnesses come off and you go around the savanna in the back of a truck. You do end up at the Boma for lite snacks. please ask me any questions and I can gladly help.

I've been lazy about booking but need to decide soon. I will report back after I call- would also love to know if anyone knows for sure.
