Wild Africa Trek in summer

I have wanted to do this tour for quite awhile now. I notice that it's $50 off in the summer, but only for the afternoon treks. I am going in July, and I have been to WDW in the summer before, I know how blistering hot it can be....and I know AK is the hottest park.
So...am I crazy to book an afternoon trek in July to take advantage of this offer? Will there be any opportunities to escape the heat on this? Is the area where you eat covered? Fans or water spritzer a anywhere?

The area where you eat lunch is covered, and has a spectacular view of the savanna. They provide a water bottle with ample opportunity to fill it up along the way. After lunch you also ride in a jeep which is covered, and they provide cooling towels which work quite well. You can find shade in some of the hiking areas amongst the foliage.

I'm seeing $50 off, not 50% off.

We're considering this for Sept. At what point in the tour do they have the meal? Would you schedule a light lunch or dinner in addition to the meal on the Trek, and if so, when?

My original thinking was to go morning, maybe after a light breakfast in the room, and have the WAT meal be brunch. I'm not sure $50/off is worth it for the afternoon, and besides, the morning meal looks more enticing (less meat, more vegetarian). I'm still not sure when I would schedule a late lunch or early dinner for this, especially if we can nab a Tiffin's ROL package.

If you can stand the heat, the afternoon is probably fine. I've heard the animals are more active in the morning and that really may be one of the reasons for the discount. We did a 10 am tour in December and ate around noon. We had a small breakfast in the morning and then had a TS dinner in EP in the evening. The WAT snack was definitely enough to make a meal for us, so we counted that as our lunch and were fine until dinner time.

I should put my glasses on...I likely misread that. Thank you! $50 off still helps!

We did in September last year. It wasn't hot but the "lunch" happened at 2 PM. that's why it's cheaper.

I completely agree! We did this last June in the afternoon time. We loved every minute of it! The heat didn't bother us. In fact, it bothered us less doing the tour then when back in the park afterwards. From the hike/hippos/alegators/swinging bridges, to the savanna tour in the covered jeep and lunch; you really aren't in the direct sun. And the guides are very accommodating.
