Our Wii is one year and one week old. It powers on but has no picture and then won't power off. Have already tried unplugging for five minutes. Any suggestions?

Go to nintendo.com and use their trouble shooting page. This happened to my wii too and nintendo fixed it for free. I entered the code off the wii and they emailed me a shipping label and also paid for return shipping. The best part was that I had it back in a week, amazing turn around time, they have great customer service.

Seems the rub is in the AC adapter itself.
Need to power down at both ends of the AC adapter--unplug AC adapter from wall output AS WELL AS from back of Wii.
Wait at least two minutes to allow any charge in the adapter itself to dissapate. Plug adapter into wall first, then back into the Wii, making sure your peripherals (eg AV receiver, TV, projector if using) are already on.
Tech support says sometimes you get a partially tripped "fuse" within the AC adapter itself

if that does not work contact nintendo:

Thnaks for the quick replies. Tried unplugging the adaptor from both ends but no luck. Guess it is time to contact Nintendo.

I would like to know what they say because the same thing happened to my sisters.
