Wii Steampunk Horror Mickey Videogame Codename-Epic Mickey

That Goofy... robot (right?) is really freaky. I wonder what the whole objective of the game is. Looks really creepy and not the normal kid-friendly Disney usually makes.

well thats yet another completely bizare decision by disney!

They've spent however many decades reminding people that everything disney is happy, not scary, magical. And now they go and take all the icons of Disney and the parks and make them scary? How many kids now that dream happy thoughts of the parks are going to at least see screenshots from this and have nightmares!? Thats just nuts.

Potentially they're devaluing all of their icons just to sell a few games? wow. I dont get it. :confused3 :headache:

It is supposedly a platformer that the developer wants to compete with Mario.

It is an odd decision yes. This actually looks like something Tim Burton would do. Speaking of which, Disney has no problem attaching their names to NMBC and the new Alice, which looks like what Lewis Caroll actually imagined it when he was high rather than the cartoon.

I know I will get it and it won't ruin Disney for me, but honestly, I am not sure how the general public would take this.

Yeah, but Tim Burton stuff doesnt feature the disney icons. Theres never been post apocalypse/nuke war shots of the castle/spaceship earth or mutant versions of the fab 5 in anything by Tim Burton has there?

I get Tim Burton stuff to a certain extent, but I dont get why disney would devalue their icons like this.

Not exactly the same, but there was a comic strip in the 30's where Mickey tried to commit suicide after Minnie went off with someone.

Floyd Gottfredson discussed this meeting in a November 1975 interview with Disney Archivist Dave Smith:

"He would make suggestions every once in a while, for some short continuities and so on, and I would do them. One that I'll never forget, and which I still don't understand was when he said, 'Why don't you do a continuity of Mickey trying to commit suicide?' So I said, 'Walt! You're kidding!' He replied, 'No, I'm not kidding. I think you could get a lot of funny stuff out of that.' I said, 'Gee whiz, Walt. I don't know. What do you think the Syndicate will think of it? What do you think the editors will think? And the readers?' He said, 'I think it will be funny. Go ahead and do it.' So I did, oh, maybe ten days of Mickey trying to commit suicide—jumping off bridges, trying to hang himself... I don't remember all the details. But strangely enough, the Syndicate didn't object. We didn't hear anything from the editors, and Walt said, 'See? It was funny. I told you it would be.' So there were a few things like that."

I'm not much into video games, but I thought that the Epic Mickey concept art is the coolest that I've ever seen. They need to get Warren Spector to work on the Dark Kingdom theme park right away. This is not a game for young children or for Disney traditionalists or conservatives. If people are offended by any form of media then they should avoid it. There are different types of audiences, and not everyone responds the same way to every form of entertainment. It's like Bob Iger said at the annual shareholder's meeting when a parent group was complaining about ABC Family Shows. "If you don't like it, then don't watch it." Disney has found a way to reach teens, young adults, and adults through such PG-13 entertainment as the Pirate franchise. They still have plenty to appeal to younger children like the Disney Channel etc. They just have expanded the term "family entertainment" to include all ages. I think that it is a great strategy.:hippie:

Throwing terms out there like "devaluing the property" is a little silly, IMO. Just because someone sees a picture of a damaged Spaceship Earth or a post-apocalyptic Castle doesn't mean "Oh no, that's scary, I don't like Disney anymore!!"

Kudos to Disney for branching out and allowing some creativity with the icons. I'll be following the development of this game for sure!

Some story details as well as gameplay ideas have been let out

Apparently, the old and forgotten characters of Disney have grown jealous of Mickey's popularity and are out for revenge.

Gameplay is done in a similar way to Okami with painting through the levels. You also have the ability to edit the maps in various way by adding, erasing, etc.

I think that this confirms that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is the main villain!:rotfl:
Speaking of which, there was an earlier sketch of an astronaut standing in front of a spaceship with OSL-15 (or something like that) and had an Oswald face on the side of it. I don't think it is valid anymore because it looks nothing at all like any of the other sketches and concept arts that have been released.
