HELP!!! We got a wii and a few games for Christmas and can't set it up!!!!!! Our components are:
TV
DVD/VCR Combo
Cable Box
Receiver
As far as I can tell, everything runs through the receiver. I looked at the back and can't figure out which connections to use to get the wii to work. I was able to plug directly into the TV, but have no sound that way, since the TV runs through the receiver.
I really hate to pay for a service call after the Christmas expenses...can anyone help me?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Hook up everything the way you had it and then hook the wii into the back of the dvd/vcr combo unit... you should have an input slot on the back, and maybe on the front if it's like mine..It will be color coded too.. red, yellow, white .. then your wii will run through the vcr. You might have to change the input selection on your vcr remote.
Have fun!

Thank you! Just tried this, and nothing...I then put it into the TV again and was able to get sound, BUT it's not through my receiver which gives it surround sound. I'd love to be able to do that too, but at least they are now getting to use their present!

I'd do some google searches on your particular brand of receiver, or go through the manual if you still have it. You should be able to find some information on how to hook up the Wii.

FYI, the cable that came with your Wii is called a Stereo AV cable. That may help you when you're going through manuals. You can also buy a cable separately called a Component Cable that has 5 connections instead of 3 and gives 720p resolution if you have a high-def TV. I just wanted to let you know the cable names so you know what connections are for what when you do your research.

Thank you! This is going to be my project for tomorrow. I really hope we can get this working!

This is how we have ours set up - no surround sound on our wii. If you need the surround, there would need to have an open spot on your receiver. (If the vcr method didn't work - make sure you have your vcr powered up if you're trying that method - it won't work powered down)

I guess we are OK with no surround sound at this point, but ideally that is how I would like to do it. I did have the VCR on but maybe didn't have the correct input selected...we had so much fun with it last night playing Just Dance 2, I didn't want to try any more connections!

For the receiver, we do have open spots, but I just don't know how to "activate" them...I don't know which setting to use on the receiver to make them work, i.e. DVD, TV, etc.

UGH...technology...no such thing as true plug and play I guess!
