I am a teacher and received my class gift today. It was a very generous gift card to the mall. I was thinking of something I'd like to spend it on. Every once in awhile, I consider getting the Wii for myself. But then I always think, would I use it enough? Plus, I just couldn't justify spending that much on it. But with this gift card, I could get it for a very good price.

Does anyone out there live alone and still have the Wii? I'd like to use it mainly for Wii fit (I know, there goes another $100!). Is Wii fit worth it? Do you use it often and do the workouts get results? I just don't want to "waste" my gift card on this if it's not something I'll really get a lot of use out of. Thanks!

You were given a very generous gift - to purchase something you would like.. If this is something you would like and enjoy, I say buy it!

I know many people who use a Wii solo - either for fitness or fun.. Go ahead and treat yourself.. It will make your students very happy!!!!
:santa:

I played with the Wii Fit by myself constantly. I didn't like the fact that you could rarely get a good long workout on it, I usually had to do Just Dance just to get a good 20 min work out.

This year I got the Xbox with Kinect and hopefully it will get me moving more!

I love to play the Wii Sport Resort game by myself, particularly. DH and I get very competitive when we play together, but when I play alone, I have much more fun. Plus it's also fun when you have other people over.

If you like it/want it, it sounds like a fantastic gift for your students to give you, and I bet they'd get a kick out of it!

I play my son's Wii all the time by myself! I love Rock Band and Super Mario Bros. and a few others. I have the Wii Fit and have done that a few times, but it just wasn't my thing. Check on Amazon for reviews, they can help you decide if the Wii Fit is something you would like.

Congrats on having such a generous class that thinks so highly of you.

I got a wii right after they came out. I think i got it in Jan 07. I lived with my family but was the only one who played it. My cousin has one too and i would go over there and play with her sometimes. I didnt spend all my time on it but played a decent amount. My favorite games to play solo were Paper Mario, Animal Crossing and Tony Hawk.

Now i have a roomate and just had to get a 2nd controller so now we play mario kart and carnival games together.

I think if you want to get one go for it

I am single and have the wii and wii fit.

I'm not single but I play the Wii a lot by myself. The kids get mad at me because I have the high score on everything!

Get one and enjoy!

:)

if you're really looking for a console for gaming, I'd suggest doing a little research on available games/etc for the different systems (wii, xbox, ps3) and see which appeal most..... the wii has a lower resolution than the other two so if you have a hi-def tv, the lower resolution quality might stand out more (of course, that might only be an issue for more serious/hardcore gamers).... the big draw for the wii over the other two used to be the motion control, but since xbox and ps3 now have their own motion control options, it really comes down to which one has the games you'd prefer

as for the wii fit.... if you're looking for something that's going to be fun to play around with, or if you haven't done much in the exercise/workout realm, it's a good place to get started.... if you're looking more for a regular workout program to get fit/lose weight, then I'd just recommend to buy a set of weights or resistance bands and a workout program.

we dont really play any of our wii games "together" . Dont forget about the bonus of having netflix streaming with it! We have a wii fit and haven't used it in months... for us it was a waste of money!

I am not single but cannot get the DH to play the Wii with me so I guess I can chime in.

I love my Wii - I play Guitar Hero all the time along with Super Mario Brothers, Mario Kart, Star Wars Lego and hopefully, Epic Mickey after Christmas!

I also have the Wii Fit but I wasn't able to get the king of workout I was looking for (I wanted 45-60 minutes high intensity cardio) so it didn't work out for me. However, my aunt and uncle use their Wii Fit daily and have for over a year. I wouldn't say they have lost a lot of weight but my aunt says she feels in better shape and helps maintain her weight.

Good luck! What a generous gift from your students!

If you want a Wii, get a Wii. Only you will know if you will use it. No one else can tell you that.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Can anybody tell me specifically what they like/don't like about Wii Fit? I'm not looking for an incredibly intense workout (I currently run 3-4 times per week and I'll continue with that). I'd like some fun workouts to get me moving on those off days that I don't run. I'd like to drop some pounds, too (especially after the holidays!).

I'm not asking anyone to predict whether or not I'll use it. I'm looking for opinions from others that may not have kids but still use the Wii alone to see if they get a lot of use out of it. Obviously if I knew whether or not I would use it, I wouldn't have to ask the question. But thanks anyway...

I have the wii fit and it probably wont give you the kind of workout that you want. The wii fit is good for getting you used to moving, but wont be a challenge for you if you already work out regularly. I would recommend EA Sports Active 2 it is much harder and has a better variety of workouts.

I'm married with no kids and I use the Wii all the time by myself. I like the Wii fit and games like Zelda and Mario. I'm hoping to get Epic Mickey for Christmas. Rock Band and Guitar Hero are also really fun, but those types of games I find more fun playing with other people.

I am single and I love love love my Wii. I was never a big vidoe game person and I am also female so when the men (boys) that I dated just sat there for hours really annoyed me.

When I saw how great the Wii was and alot of the games you weren't really sitting you are moving around, dancing. Its alot of fun.

I love Raving Rabbids!!!! Their games are very fun.

I asked for the new Michael Jackson dance game.

I like the games where I am up and moving, I also have Dancing with the Stars and Just Dance. Let me tell you about Just Dance...THAT is more of workout than Wii Fit. However, I enjoy the Wii fit and I tailor it to how I want to work out. They have some great Yoga on there and some other games as well.

I asked for the Scene It games this year as well. It is also fun when other people to come over because everyone can play.

I am not so much into the real video games on there, but sometimes they are fun.

I am not going to lie I LOVE THE BOWLING. It is great and lots of fun. I like the Tennis too.

Oh and I did see a PP say about the Netflix...GREATEST invention ever!!!

You must be a great teacher for your students to give you such a lovely gift, good luck and Merry Christmas!

Thank you for recommending this! I've been reading about it online and it sounds like just what I'm looking for - getting a decent workout while still having fun! I do not want a "work out video" type of game, if you know what I mean. This looks like a ton of fun, and is cheaper than Wii Fit, too!

I'm single, and I just bought myself a Wii! WalMart had the sale last weekend, $199 and you got a $75 WM gift card.

Can you buy the balance board by itself w/ buying the Wii Fit game? I want to get the new Biggest Loser Challenge, (and that Raving Rabbids game), and you need the balance board for them.

definitely a good gift for yourself. I often wait for the kids to go to bed so that I can play alone.
