why can't I log on - I'm at home - I've typed in the password that I use to get onto my laptop - but it won't let me on? :confused3

Make sure you are using the same encryption setting. If the router is set to WPA or WPA2 (as it should) and you are trying to connect by sending a WEP password (which is so broken you might as well not use it) they won't match because the algorithm used to hash them into a digest isn't the same.

It may also be a character set issue. Make sure all the caps are caps and if you are using any special characters you are typing them correctly. I have no experience with the touch but I have had a lot of people thinking they were typing something on their Blackberry when they weren't.

Since the password should be masked (*** as opposed to the actual characters) you might want to open a notepad of some sort and make sure the latters, numbers, and symbols you are typing are the ones that are appearing.

Lastly, if you are using MAC filtering on the router you will need to add the MAC address of the touch to the white list. Instructions can be found online for this and will very by router model.

Good luck.

I actually just had this issue on my son's iTouch...

For me, hooking it up to my computer and loading up iTunes worked, it downloaded a few updates and was perfect...

I have no idea why it happened, or even why plugging it in fixed it, but might be worth a shot for you! :confused3

Every time I have an issue with my iPod Touch, resetting it does the trick. It's worth a try.

Thanks - I've already had the updates downloaded.

I have no idea what the router settings are - I set it up once & don't have a clue how I did it - HA HA

THe caps are off & all that is right (you get to see it right before it gets covered up)

YA know - come to think of it I tried to get a gf to get online here with her laptop back in Oct & she couldn't either. Maybe there's some other code we're supposed to type in that we just don't know? :confused3 Is it supposed to be the same one for everything - my laptop (I type that in when I turn it on eveyday) & then anyone elses?

Your password for your laptop is not necessarily your password for your wifi network.

THanks - I found another password written in my book & tried it - that didn't work either - is there a way I can go back & look @ my password & see if I have it saved correctly?

ok - i FINALLY got it! I went into some other screen & typed it in - not the spot that pops up -don't ask me why....who knows:confused3

The password will be the same as your WiFi. Look at your computer. If you have administration rights, maybe you could change the WiFi password?
