WIFI on Property

Hello all! I am wondering if there is WIFI on property at WDW. Resorts only? In the parks? Free? Thanks!

Just don't expect high speed connections- the free WiFi in both the parks and at the resorts can be painfully slow.

That will depend on your phone/carrier/plan.

It's free. Resorts are likely better than the parks and I found the parks to be worse last time I was there, but I heard there was supposed to be an upgrade earlier this spring. I hope so.

Also be careful leaving your device on wi-fi...since connections are flaky, you'll chew up a lot of battery looking around for a signal. Just use it when you need it.

Just got back from WDW. (My Experience) WiFi is HORRIBLY SLOW. Just about useless. While in my room at the Comtemporay, I ran a speed test using Ookla speed test. Didn't even bother trying at the Parks.

Download Speed: 0.16 MBps (a typical home high speed connection nowadays is 25MBps - that's about 150 times faster)
Upload Speed: Was taking too long so I killed it.

Your results may be different so give it a try. Maybe I'm just not a patient person

That's disappointing. With potentially thousands of devices hitting the Disney public wi-fi at once, I wouldn't expect great speeds, but the download speed you observed is unacceptable. Perhaps that's part of the reason we haven't seen same day FP additions in MDE yet...the wi-fi network can't handle it and MDE seems to be pretty data intensive. Instead, we have to use the Disney private network (that is, CM's with iPads)

I just got back and had an amazing time using their WiFi. It is free, but you have to join the network. They have different ones in the hotels and the parks, but my phone automatically joined it. It was so fast for both me and my boyfriend, and helped us greatly with both saving battery life and data. Over NYE, the WiFi at MK was awful but I attribute that to an insane amount of guests trying to use it at once.

I guess I should add that my test was run on a laptop, so maybe using a phone (or ipad) since the amount of data transfer for mobile sites is less, it may be more useful.

I just got back and had no trouble at my resort what so ever. I uploaded pictures to Drive and my sister and I used Messanger instead of calling ( I'm from Canada) We have found this best. At AoA last year we discovered that there was no WiFi inside the buildings ( They told me it was because they were built to hurricane standards) In the parks my phone couldnt connect at all.

WiFi has been pretty awful on my previous trips. Maybe they've upgraded, but it was virtually useless for me before.

Back in December, the wifi was great at our hotel (AKL) but the wifi in the parks was hit or miss. Sometimes it was fine, other times it was super slow or just not working at all. I mostly just left it on LTE in the parks because we have AT&T and they have a strong signal there.

I'm surprised to hear that. We were at the world in April, and we were actually impressed with the speed and stability of the Wifi, both in the parks and in the resort. That said, it may have been a matter of our room being close to the wifi hub or whatever, but we never had a problem all week. We even had wifi on the bus (not always, but a couple of times!).

I only used the wifi on my iphone. DH used it both on his work laptop and his android phone.

Maybe it was just the Contemporary Resort. We were on club level, so maybe being that high up the signal was weak. But it was awful for us as I mentioned.

Always remember that free hotel wi-fi is unprotected, so do not post anything you do not want viewed by someone else. I went to a conference last month and the guest speaker was talking about identity theft and said that hotels and conferences were easy targets because of the free wi-fi. He then said that the night before he got into the hotels free network and was able to download the information going out from the hotel. As he was speaking up on the big screen was pages and pages of the information he downloaded, including the picture of my co-worker who got online the night before and posted it to her Facebook page We all were shocked and amazed.

Note as well that devices like chromecast do not work over public wifi. That being said, I think it's a great thing that WDW offers free wifi in the parks and hotels. I remember staying at a Marriott in Long Island a few years back and paid $17/day for wifi that was insultingly slow.

It was not that many years ago that WDW was charging $10 a day for internet in the hotel rooms, so I'm glad that it's free now.
