my sister is thinking about bringing her laptop, do you just check in and log on to a connection, and they know about it? How does that work? Does she need anything special? I am SOOO computer illiterate, so not sure how that all works. I usually spend my vacations unplugged!!

Thanks!!

I'm not a FW expert, but happened upon your post. Here is the info from allearsnet.com:

Does Fort Wilderness have Internet access?

Yes. Like the other resorts, Disney offers wireless Internet at three hot spots and broadband cable at the sites and cabins. The three WIFI spots at Fort Wilderness are Reception Outpost, Meadows, and Crockett's Tavern. Cost is $4.99 for the first 60 minutes or $9.95 for 24 contiguous hours. Technical Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling the vendor, Smart City, at their help desk: 407-938-HELP. Both the Cabins and Preferred campsites can also rent a cable modem kit to have high speed Internet access. A Local Area Network (LAN) cable is required. The necessary modem kit is rented at the Front Desk in the Outpost. A $125 refundable deposit is required and the kits should be reserved in advance or will most likely not be available. Cost is $9.95 for 24 contiguous hours. Dial-up access is also available at the Reception Outpost.

A couple of other things to keep in mind (I went through this process last month)... first, you need to have charging privileges on your resort card. Secondly, I wasn't able to "reserve" a modem kit as stated on All Ears. They have a limiited number of kits and I was told to call the front desk a couple of time each day to see if one was turned in. It took 6-7 days before I was able to get one.

The modem kit comes with everything you need, including the LAN cable. Once you have the modem connected, you will be prompted to enter a number off your resort card and after a couple of confirmation screens, you're ready to go.

I may be wrong, but I think in the cabins, the modem is already there, hardwired into the cabin. You just need an ethernet cable.

Thanks, I think she's decided against it....so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the info tho!
