I saw in the pre-trip report forums that the fort may have wifi starting on Monday. I'm planning on packing my router in my new camper today and finish putting clothes in it tomorrow (certainly don't need shorts here in Northern Illinois this week). I wondered if bama_ed or somebody else that is down there this week can give us an update on if it actually works or not. We head South on Thursday for the first trip with the new camper. Hoping for a good site in the 1300 loop.

Have a magical day!

Will do. I just got into my site and it's raining pretty steady but I will get up to the Meadow TP to get a modem kit. I brought a small router too and want to see how both work.

I just hope that the Fort won't completely drop the "Wired" connections. I still have my doubts about the Public WiFi even if it's limited access to the Fort.

I see you upgraded to a Cougar 326. How do you like it so far? Check out the avatar pic, we have a 2014 327RES. We really like the camper. I've did a couple of upgrades to it like a fake tile behind stove, led lights under awning and under counters, replaced all the bulbs inside with led, added a couple of recept. on the counter and a adjustable shower height in the bathroom, (thank you sports shows).

What I saw when I Was there in February is that Disney is putting at least 2 APs in each loop. These are good high powered APs, but I do wonder if 2 AP in each loop will be enough when the foliage is complete. The units they are using are good for up to 50 clients without too much speed loss, but I am skeptical. They are backhauling the data on hardwire rather then wireless mesh, or so it seems. When it goes live I hope we can get some input, but I hope at least during the teething stages they will keep the CM system alive till its rock solid like the hotels tend to be.

Ed is posting it is up and going on the March trip report thread...but the wired is down and off. Now, we wait and see how it holds up to usage and plants.

Yep see my 2 posts on page 15 of the March 2016 report.

Sorry, got to get a place for the 3pm MK parade.

That's an awfully quick "Cut over". I might have thought they would run BOTH for a period of at least a month (just in case of problems). oh well, hope it all goes well. Will see in August.

Here is the results of the speed test yesterday around lunchtime on day 1 of Fort WiFi.

Thanks for the update on the wireless. I hope it will hold up with the demands. Doing a complete switch over all at once is a big risk. The sun is shining here in northern Illinois today, suppose to hit 65. I'm going to hook onto my new camper and run it across the scales to see what it really weighs now that I have loaded it up. We will head south Thursday afternoon while the bottom is falling out of the forecast. Thursday northern Illinois should be mid 30's, central Wisconsin might get a foot of snow.
My truck and camper were part of a raffle I won. I was suppose to get a 327RES, but I ended up buying the camper myself. That's how we ended up with the 326RDS. Love the living room space and all the storage. After this first trip to the fort we'll know how we really like it.

Update on the WiFi - a Disney CM in a pickup rolled up to a stop in front of my site today while I was working on my puzzle and asked if I had tried the WiFi yet. He said "they" have a meeting to discuss it tomorrow. I said I had and told him the speeds up and down I had gotten. His response was that they hoped to double those speeds in the next week or two as they get things operating more efficiently. So take that FWIW.

PS - I turned in my modem kit today too since it no longer worked.

A parallel post I made in the group March 2016 trip report thread.

Hmmmm....

Wifi is a lot slower tonight.

Then again, DD is sitting in her hammock at the moment streaming "Gray's Anatomy" over NetFlix. :happytv:

WiFi on that scale is a little more complex. There is a finite amount of frequencies to use, so when there are tons of personal hotspots running you have to take the time to tune the system until you get the most optimal channel selection, you also have to watch out that your channels do not cause the system itself interference and slowness. I think once they can tune it some it will improve. If you stay in their resorts the speeds are pretty good for the in room WiFi, but RVs have always been a challenge for that. That is why I am surprise they pulled the CM system the same day they lit up the WiFi, that is not how I would have planned it unless there was no other way.

There are 2 antennas in 100 loop (27 sites) and 3 in 200 loop (36 sites).

From what I saw they installed on average 2 AP per loop. I saw two in the 400, 500, 300 when I was there.

That's one of those things that you have to do. It always seems like a good idea going in, but about half way through we are usually like, "Why?" :sad2:

Then you get to the end and inevitably, there is a back log. So you bounce into the boat in front of them, jerking them (and you) around. Then the boat behind you catches up, and bounces into you jerking you (the boat in front of you and them) and the sequence goes on. :crazy2: I think it's easier to get whiplash on "It's a Small World" :crutches:then it is in Space Mountain!

1) Let us not demean "small world".
2) Things could be worse.
3) You could be
. . . in the midst of being Water Boarded
. . . in the throws of dementia
. . . in the comfort station and out of TP
. . . in the traffic jam near Atlanta
