I promised myself I wouldn't watch these shows anymore, but last nite i got sucked in.

Anyways one family lived in a $700,000 house and they had it paid off cause the wife was very frugal. They looked like they were in their early 30's. I did like some of the money saving techniques they had. And, she did make her kids do chores and then paid them for doing the chores. The only problem I had was when they went on vacation, they made the kids pay the money back. When the other mom found out about it too, one of her rules was she made the dad give the money back. I can see letting your kids spend money on the vacation for shopping-but not buying a lift ticket for skiing.

I hope the mom that was so strict with her kids did lighten up and start playing and having fun with them.

The other family-don't even know where to begin-just way to many wierd things going on in that household.

I wanted to watch last night, but got tied up picking DD up from dance and missed it! I love watching these shows....it always makes me feel normal! :rotfl2:

I have a friend who told me that she really wanted to go on this show. I told her that they would never take her - she's not bizarre enough.

I turned it off half way through. The family with the husband and wife sleeping in separate bedrooms and the mega phone just completely turned me off. That poor husband. The son was like the husband. He was 12 years old and still sleeping in his mother's bed and the husband was in his own room. Really odd! I really hope that changed at the end, did it?

The one who paid off her house had an income of $200,000 too. So that helps. I thought they were 30/31, but then found out the daughter was 11. So did they have ther at 19/20 or did I get the parents ages wrong.

I tuned in to see what it was about (I've watched once before) and ended up watching the whole thing. I think a balance between the two houses would be nice. I'd like to think of our household as fun! Also, our finances have always been under control. I think they will both be able to balance now that they seen how the other household lives!

I think the mom said they paid their house off when they were 31. Maybe that was a few years ago?

I missed it last night but I really like this show. I learn something every week. Last season they had a super cleaner from Nj on....I got up & stared cleaning. I thought OMG my house is a mess.

my 8yo is begging me to try out for this show. She said that they always have exact opposites so maybe she would get a nice, fun mom...........HAHAHAHAHA. Then she said, "well you could just act real mean so I could get a nice mom." :rotfl2: I told her she didn't know mean. ;)

I thought the idea of the kids paying for the vacation was over the top--we generally give them so much spending money, then they pay for anything over and above, which I think is reasonable.

The other family was VERY weird--losing $30,000 in a business and calling it a success? This woman needs a real job, not to be lying in bed all morning, calling her husband with a bullhorn. How disrespectful is that? And completely unfair to the son, who's still sleeping with mom. That just gave me the creeps. Heck, my kids love to sleep with me, but it's an occasional treat--and you can bet that DH puts them in their own beds when it's time for HIM to go to bed!

I liked last nights episode, and I was glad they BOTH realized they needed to change.

The care-fee mom was way over the top, and I liked the other woman's expression when she realized she was going to have to share the bed with a 12 yo. TOO GROSS. But. I liked how the care-fee mom was able to let the penny-pincher's kids be KIDS. I liked how the other mom made Clark Richard spend more time with his dad.

Anyone else notice when they showed the mom flossing the 4yo teeth, he already has a filling???? I thought that was interesting. I rewound my Tivo just to be sure, and sure enough, one of his top back teeth. Goes to show, even with the OUTMOST diligence, some peple are just prone to dental problems.

BTW what do they get for being on this show? I know on trading spouses they get $50,000 to be spent as the other see fit.

I don't know how much they get, but this show doesn't have a money reward.

I was reading the Budget board and I just remembered when the frugal family went out to eat, they make sure they go to resturants where "Kids eat Free". Did the mom work or was she a SAHM?

The problem with this show is they always find EXTREAM families and then they pair them with their polar opposite. I have never seen an average family.

I was really glad to see that both couples changed some at the conclusion of the show. Having kids contribute to the cost of a vacation was way over the top for me. Of course letting a 12 year old sleep in his mom's bed was way over the top for me as well.

My DH and I actually watch this show together and each week brings up interesting situations that we talk about so that we don't find ourselves in an over the top situation.

If they were so frugal and worried about the future why would they buy a $700k house? They lived in OK where housing isn't that outrageous and could have bought something 1/2 that price that would have been just a suitable and saved themselves TONS. I don't get it :confused3

This is one of the main reasons I like this show so much. They don't get anything by doing it except the experience. It seems people do it to possibly see changes they need to make and the chance to help another family make changes. Last night was a good episode. I like that they both made some pretty major changes and both seemed to make their household work better. I thought the frugal mom said "our house is paid off at 41"???

I got the feeling the frugal mom made a lot more changes that the other one. (Although--don't those people have dental insurance?!) The wacky mom (for lack of better description) just didn't seem to get it--she was destroying her marriage/husband. Granted, he was a willing participant. Honestly, where do they find these people? :sunny:

A 12 yr old boy does not belong in his mom's bed. The other mom tried to tell the husband that it was wrong. She went about it in a good way and told him to start spending more time with his son. It did sound like the dad works a lot of hours and brings home a lot of work-I just didn't see how he had time to play "The Pig" for Laurie. Unless she worked just Saturday or Sunday. I don't think that family made to many changes-it was said that the husband wasn't getting a good nites sleep, so he was back to his own room.

I was really surprised that the other mom kept the dog. That was really a cute dog, anyone know what kind of dog that was?

I'm surprised no one has commented yet on the group bath the "fun mom" threw.

the big soapy mess in the bathroom?
and all 3 kids..2 boys and a girl...in the tub?

of course - I didn't catch if they had bathing suits on....
