We are going to be going in September for 6 nights just the two of us. We have had a stressful year and need the break, so the kids are off to "Camp Grandma Grandpa" and we are off to the Poly. We have been to Disney several times, but have always had the kids with us. Any tips/suggestions for two adults going kid-free?

Hooray for a kid-free vacation! I think we all need one now and then to recoup and reconnect.

For us, the main thing we've noticed about going kid free is that we really have a much more relaxed vacation. We are both pretty go with the flow, so we have no problem shifting plans when things warrant.

I love the WS kid free. Sure there's the always popular drinking around the world, but we have a lot of fun just snacking and people watching and strolling. (I like the going in all the shops I dare not take a child in, but that's my husband's least favorite aspect)

Our next kid free trip I'm planning on doing some "unique" dining... Like maybe having a drink and an app at one monorail resort, entree at another, and dessert at another. I've always thought that might be cool to do.

I would definatly stop for a drink at California Grill

and don't forget its F&W so you will be able to spend all the time you want at Epcot. Few years ago I was able to do a seminar since I was traveling without the kid

Outside the parks, depending upon what you are into:
sports: golf, mini-golf, fishing, marathon, bowling, ESPN Club, WWS/ESPN Zone, etc
shopping: DTD, area outlet malls, large scale malls
drinking: Jellyrolls, Raglan Road, monorail tour of resorts, walking tour of resorts in the Boardwalk area
movies: DTD 24 screen theater some with meals served by waiters
night clubbing: Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, Raglan Road, Citywalk
resort tours: monorail tour of resorts, Boardwalk around the lake tour of resorts, horse drawn tour of FWC, AKL/AKV
offsite: Gaylord Palms Resort, Citywalk, swamp tour
eating: Formal GF 5* Chef's Table @ V&As

Thanks for the tips and suggestions everyone. I am looking forward to it!

Dh and I are also going in Sept. without the kids. It will be our first trip without them. Since we are going for F&W we will spend most of our time in Epcot enjoying the booths and some seminars. We are staying at BWV so will end up a Jellyrolls a few times after Epcot closes.
It is our Anniversary trip so I did want to do something special but not food related so I booked the Epcot Seas Aqua tour where you get to snorkel in the big tank. They do have one where you can scuba in it but you have to be a certified diver and I'm not (dh is).
Besides that I was hoping to have plenty of pool time with cocktails :), play some golf and do some kayaking.

Take a break every afternoon for a swim and a nap (any order), during the heat of the afternoon.

Have at least one dinner at Animal Kingdom Lodge or Villas . Boma is the buffet at AKLodge, Saana is the restaurant with the view of the Savannah and roaming animals at Animal Kingdom Villlas (10 minute walk to each other). Have dinner at one and afterdinner drink at the other. The Lodge is fun just to walk around . It has a viewing area for the Savannah & animals as well. Great Gift shop too.

Uber between resort and parks is good to cut down on wasted time. It's very inexpensive and they show up within 10 minutes.

Order a refrigerator for your room if it doesn't come with one, then a week before you go, order food/snacks/beer /wine etc from Gardengrocer.com. Save a ton.

Tour the other other resorts/ have a drink at their bars.

Take a bus from your resort to Port Orleans, then take their small boat to Disney Springs. It's a beautiful 20 minute ride on the water. At sunset it's really nice. Bring a glass a wine or 2, lol.

Don't worry about Rope Drop early starts. Sleep late and be decadent.

Find out the best room location for your price room, and then tip the front desk helper 20 bucks to ensure you get it. Well worth it for your length of stay.

Get your Fast Passes ahead of time, as well as your dining reservations. If you don't get what you want, keep checking on your mydisneyexperience app on your phone. Get very familiar with that app.

Down load to your phone one of the free apps for seeing wait lines at the parks.

My wife, 19 year old son, his 18 year GF, and I love Epcot at night. The World Showcase at night is romantic and fun.
Soarin by far our favorite attraction at Disney, make sure you have Fast Passes for that, it's a slow line otherwise.
Test Track is great too, but they have a singles line, so the wait is never awful.

Have fun. Lot's of fun, don't sweat the small stuff.

We're doing the same in September as well. We deserve a break from the kids this year so no family vacation planned this time around. This will be our third Disney/Universal vacation without the kids. The funny thing is, we plan exactly the same way as if they were with us...minus the complaining!

I just posted a long list at the previous thread- what's your favorite thing to do.
DH and I are going end of next month- will be our 5th time just us.
We look forward to doing Disney our way.....

If you've never done it before, try to stay up for the Kiss Goodnight at MK. We haven't done it, but it's on my list for a future trip.
Have you ever tried Archery? Check out Ft. Wilderness Campground. They have an archery session you can try. While you are there, stop by the Tri-Circle D stables and see the horses. They are so beautiful!
If you've never seen the MK fireworks from the water, you might want to check into a boat ride during the fireworks. We did the Pirates and Pals event at the Contemporary one night. The night ended with a pontoon ride out on the water to watch the fireworks. It was pretty spectacular.

Have fun! Relax and enjoy yourselves!!

The short answer is anything you want to do. As others have mentioned F&W will be at Epcot while you are there so plan on spending time there and maybe picking up a seminar or two but that's not necessary to enjoy it. Do a monorail bar crawl or a monorail appetizer crawl. Resort hop and visit the other resorts.

Oh, how fun! When not traveling with kids (for me that's usually family/friends along with their kids) I try to plan a couple "nice" dinners where kids tastes aren't the concern. If you love sushi, go get it! Or splurge on a great steak. Since you're at the Poly monorail back/forth to enjoy some tiki beverages and apps mid-day. You could get tickets to the La Nouba show if that's interesting or do a tour at Epcot or MK. During F&W fest at Epcot, be sure to check out the nightly concert for a fun hour of throwback entertainment. My mom and I are doing an adult mom/daughter trip and our splurges will be the Keys To The Kingdom tour and going to the gospel brunch at House of Blues in DTD this time around.

The Food & Wine Festival,Eat to the Beat concert, an occasional Table Service Lunch( to get out of the heat), midday breaks back at the Resort pool, late evening dinners, Monorail stops for drinks, slower pace at parks, watching Wishes from the Polynesian beach, ,Narcoossee's,or the California Grill, visit a differed resort, and anything else that you would love to do together. Have fun! We are heading back in September too. This time, just the two of us to celebrate our 36th Anniversary.
